Tadelakt leather?

i have 2 tadelakt bags, a constance and a kelly pochette (both approximately 7-9 years old). this leather shows marks and fingernail scratches within minutes of using but they sort of meld together and after many years it attains a charm of its own. i find it easier to "maintain" than barenia.

Would you mind sharing some photos of the "charm of its own"? Would love to have an idea of what could be expected with Tadelakt. TIA!

kelly wallet is box leather for comparison's sake.
pochette and constance are tadelakt. they are all L or M in a square.
i do not baby my bags nor have these been sent to spa. they look better in person than in the picture, either that or my eyes are getting worse.

Thank you so much. This photo is very helpful for understanding this leather. It definitely has its own charm and is a perfect leather for some specific bags / styles.

Ok thanks all for the help. I ended up emailing my SA in the meantime. It's gorgeous on its own. Very beautiful and structured in comparison with my Clemence B35, but it tears me up inside that I have more corner wear on my Tadelakt in 1 week than I do on my Clemence in 1.5 years

My 7RP insert is arriving in the mail today. Perhaps that will help some with overall wear and tear? Here's to hoping my beauty doesn't look like a complete mess.
Just out of curiosity, did you get to see the bag before you purchased it? I know you said it was mailed to you but did you get a chance to see and touch the bag in person before deciding to buy it?

Yes, I definitely saw the bag in person. I mailed it home. I'm relatively new to the world of Hermes leathers. I have two Clemence bags (B35 and Evelyne) and I didn't ask what the leather was. My SA knew I wanted an etoupe or gold bag next, and I would be in town on business that week. I actually had a choice between two B35s (etoupe and a blue) and an orange Kelly. My heart sang when he told me he had an etoupe B, that I didn't ask leather specifics. For some dubious reason, it didn't even cross my mind that it would be anything other than a Clemence or Togo. Now I regret not asking more questions and even inquiring about the blue B (I'm not a Kelly girl, btw).

I'm not unhappy with my purchase, just a little bummed. I LOVE etoupe, and the leather is beautiful. The bag has more structure that my Clemence and is lighter. It's just already showing wear, and I had it for a WEEK. What's it going to look like in a year? I could kick myself for not asking more questions and even inquiring about the blue bag.

LOVES bag collection are beautiful though. How long have you had those bags for?

Any update on how everyone's Tadelakt items are holding up? I'm a little disappointed over here. My etoupe B35 is barely 2 weeks old and I already have corner wear in two places and a light circular scratch on the back. I'm literally on edge using it, and I'm not a rough person with bags. What can I do for the corner wear? I'm so sad. I guess I made the wrong choice with this leather, but I LOVE etoupe and jumped at the opportunity with my SA. I also heard that Tadelakt can't be refurbished at the H Spa?

I don't know if this helps to ease your mind but I had the same wear on my corners on my Etoupe B in Togo after very light and infrequent use within 6 months. I took it to Madison and was told that I'd have to leave it for a few weeks. With it being so new, I couldn't justify leaving it and spending money to fix it. I decided to wear it out some more before bringing to the spa. Now, I don't notice it and to most people, it's hardly noticeable.

I am guessing it is top grain calf. It looks like the leather they use on some saddles. If so, it wears like iron and gets better and better with age. It will have a different look (obviously) than a leather like Togo or Epsom, but it is a gorgeous, historically Hermes, rich-looking leather.

Thanks Tustin! That makes me feel better.

On a different note: do you ladies prefer a more structured insert (such as D&C with flexible ends) or 7RP for your Tadelakt bags? I ordered a 7RP, but it truly doesn't do much for my bag. Beautifully made, but I'm not sure of the point. It moves around within the bag. My D&C seems to fit better.

This leather has definitely grown on me. I was a little hesitant when I first got my C18 bc I was worried it was too delicate. I really wanted a C in epson. But, so far, it hasn't scratched and has been pretty durable. It has a beautiful thickness to it that I love.

I just wanted to update that I'm really LOVING my bag. The leather is so gorgeous and the soft shine is unreal. After getting over the first initial signs of wear, I haven't had much of an issue *knock on wood* and the D&C insert helps TREMENDOUSLY. This may not be my last tadelakt!
