Tadelakt leather?

I owned a Tadelakt Kelly which I loved. It came to me pre-loved and was in near perfect shape. It doesn't scratch as easily as Box or Sombrero IMO and has a lovely hand. I would buy another Tadelakt bag no worries - just don't expect it to be either perfect nor indestructible, like any smooth leathers.
ETA: Maybe the mods can fix the typo in the thread title so this thread can be found by search?

I just purchased 28 K in blue Izmir two weeks ago- I love love love it- will keep you update too! But I am planning to baby the bag After my rose Sakura birkin , this bag is my second favorite

I've had a Tadelakt Birkin 35 for about 4 years now and absolutely no slouching or wrinkling. It has kept it's shape extremely well. However, it's not a leather for someone who pampers their bags as it does get some scratches but most of all, corner wear.
Thank you very much for sharing! Would you care to share some corner wear pics? I'm not looking for pristine bags, but just am interested in general what kinda wear a larger Tadelakt bag would have. :flowers:

Any update on how everyone's Tadelakt items are holding up? I'm a little disappointed over here. My etoupe B35 is barely 2 weeks old and I already have corner wear in two places and a light circular scratch on the back. I'm literally on edge using it, and I'm not a rough person with bags. What can I do for the corner wear? I'm so sad. I guess I made the wrong choice with this leather, but I LOVE etoupe and jumped at the opportunity with my SA. I also heard that Tadelakt can't be refurbished at the H Spa?

Tadelakt can definitely be refurbished at spa. My bag made it from 2011 to 2017 in near pristine shape - very slight corner wear, one or two small scratches, but again nothing like what Box gets. Tadelakt is definitely a bit delicate, but again, no more so in my experience than Box or Barenia, and unlike barenia oil does not stain it permanently.
Maybe take your bag to H to ask about the wear? Is there color loss on your corners? Sorry to hear this.

The corner wear is really what's bugging me. Definitely color loss on the corners. I dabbed a little Meltonian cream on it, but it didn't help very much. I don't even know how I sustained this damage! I can't recall bumping into anything.

My SA is 3000 miles away, but I do have two Hermes stores close by. Should I let my SA know about this issue or just take it to a nearby store? I don't want it to affect my relationship with him. It's just bumming me out. I've only been using the bag for a week!

Ouch! So sorry to see that - I would be upset as well. Do you have a store nearby with an on-site craftsperson?

I'm guessing one of the NYC stores, such as Madison Ave? Should I be concerned at this point that something is wrong with my bag? I literally purchased it on May 24 and had it shipped home to me. I have a few superficial scratches on it, but not as concerned with that as I am the corner wear.

Oh no!! I'm so sorry!! That would devastate me too. Can you email the pics to your SA and ask what he or she would recommend?

I am sorry that this has happened- as you know I got blue Izmir Kelly about same time- I love it however it got couple scratches around buckle already from 4 times using it- I believe it is unavoidable- I do not think there is anything wrong with your bag- I believe this leather is only suitable for smaller / occasional uses- only

I doubt it's faulty tbh, this could happen to any leather with a bad bump (and I bump my bags without noticing a lot). While I love Tadelakt it is not tough. You can cover the color loss areas and the bag will look great. Madison has craftspeople who can give you advice and tell you how to handle the leather.

A special skin can be hard at first. When I breathe on Barenia it gets marks, even though it is fine in rain, it hates any kind of oil. I'm learning to love that it gains character. :hugs:

It is very normal for this type of leather. I would take it to get spa but maybe wait until you use it a bit more as you will notice over time that it does get more scratches and corner wear with use.

Ok thanks all for the help. I ended up emailing my SA in the meantime. It's gorgeous on its own. Very beautiful and structured in comparison with my Clemence B35, but it tears me up inside that I have more corner wear on my Tadelakt in 1 week than I do on my Clemence in 1.5 years

My 7RP insert is arriving in the mail today. Perhaps that will help some with overall wear and tear? Here's to hoping my beauty doesn't look like a complete mess.
