Suggestion of where to store Jewelry at home, a safe?

I feel like this topic is so dangerous....but I will say that we had a false return air duct that housed a safe, and we felt very confident with our valuables hidden there. We had it installed.
Is it bolted down? My friendS home was burglarized, luckily she had a 6 feet vault and bolted down. It was hidden but not in the master bedroom.

If you get a safe, just make sure you bolt it to the floor or build it into a wall. In our area, a number of people have had their homes broken into and had their small/medium safes taken - the entire thing, wheeled away and gone. Sadly, while many people did have valuables in them, many others only had documents in them - birth certificates, passports, etc. I keep most valuables not used or worn daily, documents included, in a safety deposit box in the bank. It is worth the inconvenience, IMO.

Yep!! There was a string of robberies in my neighborhood a while back, they managed to remove a 400lb safe from one house since it was not bolted down. And I’ve heard stories of even heavier safes being taken.

We have a very large gun safe in the basement that holds lots of things. We had to take apart the railing and doors to get it in the basement. It even broke some stairs that we had to get repaired. Somebody has to be really bent, be strong as a team of oxen, dismantle the house, and have plenty of time on their hands to get it out. In fact, if we were to sell this house, that safe comes with it!!

Where did you purchase this safe? Is it from Costco?

Wow, 400 lb? Do they have alarms and camera at the house?

They most likely did, but my family’s house was also robbed the same week (same robbers) and they disabled our alarm system and cameras and then broke down the back door. It was a very professional band of robbers who were eventually caught, they would use luxury cars and wear suits so they wouldn’t appear suspicious in nice neighborhoods. Luckily that home was no longer our main residence so there wasn’t much to steal. They took a bunch of empty Rolex, Patek, etc boxes even though the actual jewelry was not there— probably to use when reselling other jewelry they have stolen.

Wow,, how did they disable the alarm and cameras? Alarms have backup batteries and electrical boxes have locks.

We have a wall safe bolted in the wall, we stash our goodies in there if we go out of town. In addition, I have a small safe in my closet like the ones in hotel rooms, I keep my expensive jewelry in there. It’s quick and easy access. Regarding hiding your things, my mom hid jewelry once when she went out of town and couldn’t find it when she returned home. She ‘lost’ it for two years before finding it again. Also, make sure you have insurance on all your pieces. I’d be bummed if anything got lost or stolen, but insurance gives me peace of mind.
