So I just had a revelation after doing some math…. It’s cheaper for me to buy Hermes handbags from the resale market than buy them from the Hermes store. If I bought all the bags I currently own from resellers at their inflated prices, I would have saved close to 85k usd. Of course this is assuming I have no interest in any H items other than quota bags… which isn’t necessarily true. Financially, the strongest upside to buying in the store is guaranteed authenticity and also being able to snag quota bags that may not be readily available… like an exotic or rare leather in a very specific color and hw (which I do have a few of).
Anyways, those are my current findings. It’s definitely an unusual, tedious hobby to track all my purchases from H. I’m not including sales tax in my calculations btw.
If I was only going to get a neutral Togo QB, I would recommend to my close friends and family to go the reseller route (if they don’t want to play the game and don’t have an interest in H items since it seems to be cheaper). I do understand that this comes with the danger of not getting an authentic bag… and I understand authenticity is king so maybe this entire post is a waste of time. I should also clarify my perspective is shaped by being a US based customer.
Edit: here’s some historical proof of my crazy behaviorhttps://forum.purseblog.com/threads/spend-threshold-for-b-k-c.1032182/post-35044411
it’s definitely worth considering when you realize the Japanese resell market is reasonably priced, and vintage H is such a good look. AhhhI agree. I didn’t run an actual calculation, but I KNOW I’ve spent more than buying from resellers. I do enjoy the majority of my “pre spend” shopping. However, from time to time I also doubt if it makes sense.
If reseller prices continue to drop, I wouldn’t oppose getting bags I love at attractive pricing.
Thank you for your honesty, I think somewhere deep down we all get that gut feeling that maybe it’s not worth it to go through the stress of prespend and relationship building to get that coveted in store experiencing of unboxing a QB.So I just had a revelation after doing some math…. How much spend is reasonable you would say for most us store for an exotic?Exotic bags are not produced at the same rate as non-exotic bags. However, considering they are out of most people’s price range, exotic bags are available if requested. I hope that makes sense
If you have a relationship already and you negotiate with SA, I heard 100.000 euros for faubourg.Does anyone know the prespend in Paris for a himalayan b/k or a fauborg ☺️
I love everything I buy, but the issue is the quantity. No one struggles with that? I have so many boxes of unused items and an upset husband 😅. Now I am slowly trying to use what I bought 2-3 years ago, but I can’t keep up.So I just had a revelation after doing some math…. My friend got a K32 alligator from Madison last year as a walk-in. I think the big bags are much harder to sell, so I believe B35, k28 and b30 have low prespend as well.
My friend just got a MK alligator with 60.000 euros prespend. Another got one with 50.000, both in Paris, both had relationships there.
I think the prespend for B20 is higher than $100,000 if you don’t have a long relationship. A reseller with long-term relationship spent that in one shopping trip to be offered it in NY.
I heard at Madison that they get an average of five MKs alligator a year plus the SOs. I find it hard to believe and I think they get more, but who knows?See so it’s still not so easy. It’s not like you can walk in and ask for a MK exotic w zero prespend. Comments on the forum make it sound like no one wants exotics and you can just walk in and ask for one. The ratio may be less but the absolute dollar amount is still $$$$. Way more than a regular bag.
I’m just confused at the commentary is all.
