Thanks for sharing! Here's what I learned reading Japanese articles covering this event.

The first scarf is designed by Kohei Kyomori, the Japanese designer who won the first prize of the LE GRAND PRIX DU CARRÉ HERMÈS in 2019 and the winners' designs are planned to be silks in following years. We already saw one of them for SS2021 - one of the second prize winner is the designer of Mr. Farrier for SS2021. (https://www.designboom.com/design/six-winners-le-grand-prix-du-carre-hermes-competition-03-02-2020/)

This scarf is described as "exclusive release earlier than rest of the world" in most news articles and the Hermes official website article. The name (me translating the Japanese to English) is likely "Duo Cosmic". I see some articles say that it is an AW2021 scarf design, so "earlier than rest of the world" means rest of the world will get it for the AW2021 season. Some articles mention that this particular CW is exclusive to the store, which wouldn't surprise me since that's pretty in line with what they did for previous store openings.

As for Méga Chariot, as you may have guessed, they picked it because it is by Daisuke Nomura. This one is reeeaaally limited from what I can tell. There are only 20 of them...and it's actually 20 different ones with literally 1 for each version (if I'm understanding this vogue article properly https://www.vogue.co.jp/fashion/article/hermes-omotesando). Each of them is a "layer" of the coloring process, as you can see from the photo below. If that's the case, collecting the "set" must be really hard! :girlshocked:

Thank you, @momoc for that explanation and all the work you've done collating the information.

Indeed, many scarves that are "limited edition" for openings or special events tend to show up later in different CWs so hoping to be able to get a version of Duo Cosmic at some point in time. However, if what you say is true re: Mega Chariot, I'll second @Julide in saying I can pretty much forget it. Pity. The CW in your first post on the topic hit all the right notes for me.

We have a number of Mega Chariot scarves on our website (Asia) - in lovely CWs as well.

I think my previous question wasn't clear, as the mods have moved my post to the 'Exceptional' thread, but it really is a question about a special edition, so I'm re-asking it here with appropriate links/detail. I'm curious if anyone knows about the 'Carreve' scarf issued in Japan in approx 2019, either for purchase or as a 'gift' to customers. This special edition was not an 'Exceptional'. Apparently there was also a notebook, and there was definitely a special edition watch. I love this design, so very curious if anyone has details, particularly would like to know if a designer is named. The only other mention I can find of it on the forum is @xincinsin wearing the scarf, and I think (can't tell for sure - maybe she will see this and can confirm) that hers is the 'Exceptional'.

Ebay listing discussing it being a 'gift'

Mine is not the exceptionelle. The exceptionelle had embroidery and I recall it was available in more than one CW (mainly the colour of the contrast hem). I passed on it as, even by H standards and my ever-increasing tolerance for pricing, I thought it was priced above the norm for a lightly embroidered scarf. But I did like the design very much (Shakespeare fan here). So when a favourite seller in Japan had the VIP gift version, I snapped it up at about half the price in the link you attached. He just confirmed that no designer was mentioned when this gift scarf was issued.

Thank you so much for this info and for replying! I'm delighted to know that even if I can't know the designer, I can at least stop obsessively searching to try to find out who it was (and nice to know the 'gift scarf' is out there, happily and authentically living in the wild).

There are only 100 pieces of the Kohei Kyomori scarf. One piece is up for sale on the bay at a very high price. If they issue it later as a regular 90, I might want to get one. Have to see how it ties.

Duo Cosmique of Hermes Omotesando boutique limited edition scarf. The designer of this exclusive carré is Kohei Kyomori. He won the first prize of LE GRAND PRIX DU CARRE HERMES, (2019-2020) with this scarf design. (His signature in pic 4.) The Designer calls himself “Contemporary Decorative Artist,” seeks for themes and topics of his artworks from traditional decorative arts of all ages, both inside and outside of Japan, researches and reinterprets the interactions between them, and creates his own unique artworks.

At the center of this scarf, a woman with her mouth open, and a man with his mouth closed are depicted. They are supposed to be “A-Un(阿吽)," pair. A-Un represent the beginning and the end of all things, or the universe. A-Un is one of the theme of the designer’s works.

Please visit “Gallery” page on his official website. The designer himself introduces his series of artworks of A-Un, (English/Japanese) with other works such as Awarebi , Enso-flowers and etc.

I am looking forward to coming across more official information about this design. But for now, please allow me to introduce what A-Un is in my culture & history; 'A' is the sound of the first letter of the Sanskrit alphabet (and Japanese alphabet Hiragana too) and is pronounced with the mouth open. 'Un' is the sound of the last letter of the Sanskrit alphabet (and Hiragana too) and is pronounced with the mouth closed. At the entrance to a Shinto shrine, there are often two lion-dog shrine guardians Komainu 狛犬, one with mouth open and the other with mouth closed. Niou 仁王 (two kings) guardian figures are found at either side of a Buddhist temple gate, in the same poses. 'A' and 'un' represent the beginning and the end of all things, or inhalation and exhalation, respectively.

Thank you, @Meta (and @cherryblossum ) for the photos and explanation. This scarf is a stunner and I sincerely hope I get a chance at it in the near future / coming season. Fingers crossed for AW 21-22. The special edition CW is beautiful, and the design itself lends to a potential of some stunning CWs when issued on a grander scale. Fingers crossed...

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. After buying the new edition Carre IV book of Hermès scarves, I was worried about a possible vintage fake in my newbie collecting. But nope. Sure enough it was listed here as a special edition. Thank you! Though I have to say, in the book, it’s not listed to have had a special edition!!

In addition, the fact is that there exists another special edition of the Arms of the United States foulard : the special edition for the Olympic games in 1984 .......... quite rare and very difficult to find!

Anyway, congrats with your purchase!
