Small classic flap vs mini rectangular?

I love my small lambskin flap! I don't have a mini, and I know people love those, but the small feels like a more substantial bag to me. No offense to anyone, but the mini just doesn't have the presence that the small has. Small goes easily from day to night, and the double flap doesn't bother me. Because I love cross body wear, I had a reputable company that has worked on Chanel bags for many years add some length to the chain. I don't plan to ever sell this little beauty, so I wasn't worried about altering the chain. I will add that I already had two Gucci bags that filled my "mini bag" void, so I wasn't looking for something with that small of a profile when I bought my small flap. Both are lovely bags, you really can't go wrong! Let us know what you decide. :)

Hello,

I bought the 2.55 Mini So Black a few months earlier and prefered it over the small for a few reasons :
- small and mini can hold almost the same amount ;
- mini can be worn on the shoulder AND crossbody, which was way more convenient to me (I am kinda tall, 1m72) ;
- small offers the double rabat, which I think isn't practical at all on a daily basis. You have to hold it with one hand while your second hand searches for stuff ;
- small costs almost twice the price of the mini... and I wasn't ready to pull the trigger for a 6000€ bag :biggrin: :biggrin:

Go for the bag your heart loves, but don't forget to choose the one that will fits your lifestyle :lol:

I chose 2.55 mini for similar reasons. Love that it's got 4 grommets, no logo clasp so it's more "under the radar", I prefer the ease and lighter weight of a single flap, and calfskin is more worry free than lambskin.

Minis sisters !
I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one to prefer minis:biggrin: The ease to search for stuff was clearly what makes me pull the trigger for a mini instead of a small.

Last time I went at Chanel, I spent A LOT of time in the boutique and tried at least 10 bags, in order to score my maybe next luxury purchase. Now I’m sure : my heart goes for minis at Chanel !

WooHoo exciting @Chanelloverkay27 :yahoo:

Caviar minis last production probably Fall’18 collection if I’m not mistaken. Comparable sizes between mini and small CF (both in my collection), hold same amount, only differences crossbody/double up straps for mini but can’t crossbody for a small CF (even on my petite frame), easy access with single flap on mini vs double flap on a small.

Bottom line, what works for you and your lifestyle, best to try both styles on if you can, you know when know, when you see the bags in person, love at first sight :love:

Congratulations on your first Chanel’s and many more....:drinks:

My first bag was rectangular mini caviar shw back in 2014. Coz that was all I could afford. And I figured it would still look like a classic. Then 3 more Chanel bags later (med boy, sm coco handle so black, pink mini trendy cc bag) Here I am in 2021 realizing my dream of finally getting a classic flap bag black caviar shw with price increase :hrmm:

When I was choosing between my first Chanel bag, I was deciding between a Mini and Small flap as well. The capacity is nearly the same. I decided on the Mini and do not regret it. I have a clip that clips the strap on the inside to shorten it if I want to wear it as a shoulder bag without causing any damage. To be honest, the price was also a factor for me at the time and I think the Mini is a great value.

I've since expanded my Chanel collection, but still adore the Mini and love how light it is.

my vote goes to mini too.. mini rectangle is the best chanel bag to me :) has the classic flap look but with single flap, luxury of Lambskin but small enough to manage and priced very well compared to classic flaps..

Plus these days in general we carry so little any way.

Only advantage of small classic flap over mini to me is caviar leather. Otherwise Lambskin all the way :)

I am leaning towards the mini rectangular as my first Chanel bag but now have more food for thought after reading this thread. I will definitely have to try both in the store (have an appointment for next Saturday!!!). Anyone here from Quebec who can tell me their experience/ wait when getting on waiting list for a bag? The boutique in Montreal tells me a “couple of months” for the mini (they only have mint green in stock...). Thank you!

I say SCF. I don't have a small, but I do have a mini. I find the strap to be very fussy compared to the straps on the CFs. It's because the strap is fixed in place on the mini and mine does get rotated and crooked in places - then I need to spend time detangling/straightening. Not an issue with the free rotating strap on the CFs.

can you link us to the clip you use and let us know about wear/tear on the strap (if any?)

I actually have both in caviar, different colors! The capacities are extremely similar, BUT the looks and when I use them are totally different. Because the mini is crossbody it ends up being more of a night out or errands bag, and generally gets more use. The small is more of my dressier bag for nicer events/dinners (looking forward to when those happen again...) I cannot wear my small crossbody it looks ridiculous. For reference I am ~5’5”.

Bottom line, are you looking for a bag to admire or a bag to use often (or both?) The small is crafted with detail and structure in a way that totally outshines the mini. The mini is my most versatile and practical.
