Small classic flap vs mini rectangular?

I have the same conundrum!! I've been eyeing a chevron mini in a cute yellow (series 25 by reseller) but I saw that the latest cruise collection on Chanel's website has this offwhite/beige chevron coming out in small! The mini is quite expensive for the amount of material it uses compared to a classic flap and the price difference of a mini and small is a huge jump, so I'm not sure if it justifies the price considering they fit almost the same. I prefer to wear crossbody too and am not sure if the small can be worn that way. I am 5ft4 and alr have a medium cf. Thoughts anyone??

Small and Medium are not comfortable to be worn crossbody. I'm 5”1 and own a Medium. I've tried a small crossbody at the boutique. But I found there was no big difference in terms of chain length.

Hi Everyone,

I’m looking to make my first chanel purchase and wasn’t sure which bag to get (small CF vs mini rectangular)? I’m debating if the small CF is worth 6k esp since I hear that the mini fits the same amount but the chain is also longer on the mini. For reference I’m 5’1 and quite petite and love small bags. Can anyone share their experiences about their bag, I’d really appreciate it!!
I'd get both but not at the same time. Both bags are different in style and purpose. It's hard to find a real versatile bag that can be used on every occasion. Then I've stopped debating whether which one is the best unless they are quite similar. I'd get both but just the question of time.

To answer your question, I'd get the CF first for the price increase reason and try to save more for the Mini later on if I still want it.

Ohh then it surely would not work for me :( probably the mini length would be better then. But they all seem to fly off the shelf so quickly it's difficult to get one!

I just bought the original (non-padded) Cassette bag in black. I'm not sure how I feel about the inside not being lined. Has anyone put a felt bag insert in this bag? Does it take up too much room? Would you recommend it?

Hi, I am considering buying the non padded cassette. What’s your feedback? Did you end up buying an organizer ? What do you think about the magnetic closure?

I’m planning to treat myself to my first Chanel bag purchased myself for my birthday this year! i’ve been trying to decide between the new rectangular mini and the small classic flap. I was wondering if any one that has either of these bags or both could offer an opinion?

NB: I ideally would like to get it in black caviar with ghw but I don’t believe I’ve only seen the rectangular mini in lambskin!

In my opinion, small classic all the way! (or medium because they are not much different in size and price) Minis are crossbody and small can be worn both shoulder and crossbody. Again in my opinion, small (and medium) CF is just so classic, sophisticated, can be worn casual & dressy! You can never go wrong;)

Also, don't be afraid of lambskin! They are gorgeous and it ages well:heart:

How exciting it is to treat yourself to a Chanel bag! I have both a mini and a small CF. I tend to gravitate toward the medium most but wanted a few that were different. In terms of capacity I can fit the same amount in a small and rectangular mini (flat card case, keys, lip balm, iPhone 11, and sunglasses in a soft pouch). I wear my small on the shoulder (single or with strap doubled up) and the mini is my crossbody bag. The advantage is that the small can come in caviar and lambskin but the newer minis are lambskin only. I can't remember the exact collection or year that they stopped doing caviar minis. Good luck on your decision!

Thank you! it’s interesting to me that the mini and small size can fit similar amounts! Based on your response and the other I think I will probably go for the small as it’s a more substantial bag just won’t work as a crossbody on my stature sadly! Maybe I can go for a pop of colour with a mini in the future but with the rate of price increases it might be double the price in a year or two!:sad:

The medium size for me seems too large! I do think small might be best as it works day time to night and casual to dressy. The medium seems too big to carry as an evening bag I think. I have heard lambskin ages better and it definitely looks beautiful, just afraid of having to baby it too much and I’m quite bad at that with bags! Thanks :smile::smile:

They fit similar amount because minis are single flap whereas small/meduim (and jumbo) are double flap. I hear that with some single flaps, you loose items inside the bag because it slips from the side. Double flap bags definitely secure your belongings! And I think it is a GREAT IDEA that you'll go for some pop of color in the future for your mini!! Minis are considered seasonal offerings so you will have so much option for the colors ;)

Also, medium are not as big as you think! Because it is double flap, if you put hard sunglasses case with keys, phone and cardholder, there's really not much room left :) But if you would like a smaller, I still think you'd like small CF :heart:

Hope you meet your dream bag soon!!

How exciting. They stopped making mini in caviar in 2017 so it's only lambskin. I have mini, m/l, jumbo. I don't have the small because it doesn't hold any more than the mini and I already had the m/l and mini. The medium/large (m/l) is actually not that big. I only use it on dates and weddings. It's a perfect evening bag. It can't really be worn crossbody though. The mini is more comfortable as a crossbody. For frame of reference: I'm 00/0/xxs/xs 5'3.
I'd try the sizes on in store if you can.

If you want caviar, get the small (or medium). Can't wait for you to get it.

Get the small you won't be disappointed! Even though the small is my least used bag it is the most beautiful proportions to look at!

I have all sizes and the ladies are correct when they say the mini and small hold the same amount. I think if you have the money just get the one you love first and you seem to love the look of the small!

The mini is lighter, crossbodies and is lambskin which I like better for gold hardware. I use my mini way more because it is much more convenient. I have silver hardware in medium cavier which I also use more than the small for a day bag because it fits more like sunglasses and masks but is heavy.

If I had to do it over again and only get 1 Chanel it would be a small black lambskin light gold hardware. Hope that helps.

Let us know how you like it.

Hello,

I bought the 2.55 Mini So Black a few months earlier and prefered it over the small for a few reasons :
- small and mini can hold almost the same amount ;
- mini can be worn on the shoulder AND crossbody, which was way more convenient to me (I am kinda tall, 1m72) ;
- small offers the double rabat, which I think isn't practical at all on a daily basis. You have to hold it with one hand while your second hand searches for stuff ;
- small costs almost twice the price of the mini... and I wasn't ready to pull the trigger for a 6000€ bag :biggrin: :biggrin:

Go for the bag your heart loves, but don't forget to choose the one that will fits your lifestyle :lol:
