Hi fj question. Has Hermes ever used an eagle or hawk head makers mark on their fj? I’m seeing an item I like on resale, but I’ve never seen the bird head before. I am wondering if this is a special edition piece of jewelry or if it says something significant about the origin of the item or the maker.

French makers use an eagle marking to denote 18k gold.

Yes my gold necklace has some type of bird marked on it.

Yes, the Eagle’s head indicates made in France. This is normal for pieces made there, but some Hermes jewelry is made in Italy and won’t have that mark.

Yep, it’s the French eagle!

Here is my Farandole ring:

So don’t buy new from Hermes but second hand from a reputable reseller. Until last year, I’d been eyeing several items from H but I just could not bring myself to purchase those items at the store. I hemmed and hawed about resale mainly due to uncertainty about authenticity and condition. But then decided what the heck so I made my first purchase last year and was really impressed with the condition and the savings from fp. There is very clearly a steady stream of clients willing to buy these pricey items for bags. But then they dump the jewelry for a fraction of the price and in new condition. I have saved around 65/70% buying resale jewelry in like new condition. I regularly see 5 figure jewelry items being listed at 10k or less on fp. And what I love about resale is I don’t have to insure at the retail value. I have a couple more items I’m on the hunt for. This bangle I have on is one I’d eyed for a decade and back then it retailed around 12k. At the time I thought it pricey for the amount of diamonds. Over time the price kept going up making it even less justifiable until I decide to go resale. This was in like new condition with the box and having owned other h jewelry I am confident it is authentic esp given the reputation of the retailer. Even if one is chasing bags I still think with jewelry it’s better to go reseller.

Edit and btw I’ve seen the chaine d’ancre pave ring listed many a times on reseller sites for a fraction of the retail price. If one is patient enough there is quite w savings.
