I have found sometimes that consignment store are pretty expensive when it comes to designer stuff. For example, the consginment store had a small sophia for $160. Th Dillards a few blocks down had them on sale for $130ish! But I did get a coach bag at the same store for $18 bucks just because it had some pen ink on it (which came out).
I'm seriously considering going back for the Mandy. I looked on Ebay, and they are going for $200 to $350. It seemed to be in perfect condition. I couldn't sleep last night because I kept thinking about it.

Yeah, in that case you should definately get it! If it's more on ebay I would go for it. It does sound like a better deal than my consignment shop!

So.... I went back and got it.
It turns out it wasn't a Mandy. It is a 2007 Legacy Satchel, as in this post:

I guess it doesn't have an interesting name but this one retailed for $798 and is rarer. There are two on ebay now that are priced around $700! The zipper is so heavy-duty that it is easier to handle than other bags that have the separating zipper so I think I might be able to handle it.
There was a spot on the bottom that the store said they didn't want to clean off because they weren't sure how to, and that it was priced accordingly. It wiped off easily with leather cleaner. I don't know why they priced this one so low because all the other Coach was priced really high. There was a black Willis for $150 and a few older fabric purses for around that price. I think this was the cheapest!

Wow, that's a gorgeous bag, congratulations!

Hey Thanks KateV, this one definitely needs some extra help, and I'd be very interested to see how yours turns out. The leather on my duffle was almost suede like with wear, when it should be nice and smooth and sealed. Washing and conditioning cleaned alot of the dirt off, and the leather is sealed and smooth again, but the colour is definitely patchy. I've discovered that we have a Tandy leather store in Sydney and they do mail orders, so maybe I can source some there? I really should just have left the duffle in the vintage store, but I just thought ho amazing it was to find one here, and that it must have been meant to be. Meant to teach me patience maybe.

The first red bag that I tried to restore, a collegiate bag, came out looking like that and so I put it away and forgot about it. I am thinking of getting some red color restorer to try and revive it, see link below. It comes in several shades of red. You may be able to find a similar product that is locally available.

Tandy makes good products so they should be able to help you. I know what you mean, there are a lot of bags in my reject pile (and still waiting for attention in my rehab pile) that I probably should have left in the thrift store. Hopefully I am getting better at walking away!

Very cool! Sounds like an even better deal than at first. Maybe they don't know their coach very well. (DOn't you love it when poeple don't know the real value of what they have in the sense that we get a better deal:graucho:)

Very few people know Coach as well as we do! One of the used siggy $150 bags was recently on the online sale for $80. I wonder if they thought the one I got was vintage.

what a nice style!
Thank you!

Now I have three black bags and they all are showstoppers!

Just for fun, I tried to photograph this bag in the same "pose" as the original ad, provided by Hyacinth. It wasn't a fantastic deal, but it is in fantastic condition and I got it for under $30. It was cheaper than the one of the same style I got last week and that one is going to need some work!

That's a great bag and you got it for a great price!

Reading about all your thrift store finds, and Ebay finds, I thought I might share this one. I haven't put pictures of this bag anywhere because it hasn't turned out that well, but this is my one and only thrift/ vintage store Coach find. I was on a trip to Sydney with my husband and daughter (to see Jack White, yay!) and we were wandering up a street in Sydney well known for vintage stores. So we all go into one and I spot a RED feed bag/ duffle. I think to myself, "gee, that looks like Coach, but it won't be, all the way down here". Anyway, it's an NYC duffle. By this time my husband has seen me with the bag, so I take it over to the sales lady and ask how much it is (too much). My husband pipes up that I "restore" old Coach bags, and shows the lady my suspender bag (that I just conditioned, nothing more). Long story short, I walk out with the red duffle and high hopes. Here are the before pics. She was quite beat up. After are the after pics - an improvement, but not great. She is now my work bag, used 4 days a week for carting my stuff too and from my office.
I really love this bag style and it's a great color. Reds and oragnes (brights) are hard to fix up for me, I am so afraid of getting aggressive with them. I have been considering that restorative dye stuff that M3rmaid and Katev and others have and/or are trying out.

that's cool! I think that price is pretty good. I'll pay $30 easily for a bag that is less common that 's in good shape, even up to $50 if I love it enough to keep it, and it's not a "resell" type of bag for me.
