Warning: Don't try this at home kids!

Today's "find" starts Saturday morning-I had UMPTEEN things to do, but I had a tough work week and decided to watch a movie and kick back before I started them. Silly me, even though I keep swearing I'm going to stop doing this, I do a kind of random coach search on eBay while I watch the movie.

So I find this "blue suede" coach purse listed for $5:

with the auction ending that afternoon, and proceeded to do a search to figure out what bag it was. I guess I have a thing for suede, I need to post a couple other suede projects in the rehab thread. The description of the bag says nothing much except it's unique, has braiding on the side, and is missing the hangtag.

So I do a few searches, both here and on eBay, and end up finding THIS bag listed as grey suede, NWT and with it's "slipcase"

BIN for $70. It took me a little while to search here and find this one, I knew I had seen it but I couldn't remember when or how. I could tell from the details it was a Madison bag, and even though I knew the handle was twisted, I still searched for "braided" and came up dry. Finally searched for twisted and there it was. duh.

I found out here it was a Madison small Marielle, did some searches for that on eBay and found several that had sold for $180-$200. At that point I was ready to take the plunge and fork over the $70 and bought it. That was saturday afternoon and it arrived today so, YAY for quick shipping sellers! And it was new with an unattached tag, care card, and dust bag. Very cute bag, I have a thing for drawstrings.

My picture isn't any better than the sellers but here it is anyway...I should have taken it outside, pix in my bedroom come out yellow.

My movie was almost by the time I did the BIN and I felt satisfied and was going to give up on the original, $5 blue suede bag, except that it was almost over and still, no one had bid on it, so I did a little more searching here and found a 2002 suede stitched tote in the authenticate thread so checked out the wayback machine, and found this:

New SUEDE LACED SMALL SLIM DUFFLE Make the right statement for Spring in lightweight suede. Cellphone, pen and multi-function pockets Inside zip pocket Ring to clip an accessory or keyfob Zip-top closure with dogleash zipper pull Lightweight suede with leather trim and fabric lining 48” adjustable strap 11 3/4 (L) x 10 (H) x 3 (W) Pool shown Price: $228 Style No: 9112

Since no one ever bid on that first suede bag I went ahead and bid the $5, even though the shipping was $15. I would be pleasantly surprised if this bag turned out to be this color, but on the plus side, the part of the bag that you can see, the bottom, doesn't look particularly worn or dirty so we'll see what I end up with since it hasn't arrived yet.

I think I'm going to break out the Marielle for work tomorrow. :) I don't know if I should spray it with suede spray though...might think on it for a day before I drag her out, she's got a big of iridescence so I will have to test a spot first.

So here is the "after" on the suede duffle and a link to how I got her there:

Authenticated by Hyacinth yesterday (thanks, Hyacinth!!) - here is my 1998 Ergo Pocket Zip. Made in Costa Rica and bought for $24 at my local antique mall. She's quite a bit dirty on the inside, but no major stains, tears, etc. She'll be a great bag for this Fall. :)

Finally....a good bargain on a thrift shop bag!
My $5.40 Casey authenticated by Hyacinth.

Great-looking bag, I am sure she will rehab well and be perfect for fall!

I have another second hand bargin that I bought on ebay. I consider ebay my second hand online store. I find this poorly listed marielle for $125.00 and I got the seller to end the listing early and she gave it to me for her asking price. Also this is the large one so I got an excellent deal on this handbag.

Very pretty bag!! and a great price too! Lately ebay has been my "go to" for some deals also. Its harder to find stuff at thrift stores these days.

Well hooray for me! This isn't my style of bag, really, but for a nearly mint Coach that still has its hangtags -with a half off coupon bringing it to only $2.90- you betcha I didn't leave it sitting in the store!! (they only price something this low if they are asleep or are convinced its fake...HA!) I am about 100% its real.
I love the teal accents and teal colored lining.

The funny side story to this is, I had just passed on a $24 station bag that had an ink explosion stain on the bottom corner. As I am checking out, another lady spotted the station bag and was haggling to get the price down because of the stain, and the pricer/mgr was explaining how they priced it KNOWING the stain was there, because ordinarily they'd put $40 or $50 bucks on it. I spoke up and let her know right then and there that inks stains like that aren't easily fixable if at all, and that they are getting out of control on their pricing. (that felt good). I DIDN'T hold up this other little hobo and brag about how they obviously don't know what they are doing half the time anyway. I just took it and scooted on out.:D

I had a similar story this morning, although the bargain was not as good as your buy! I stopped at a garage sale and I was looking at a few bags they had on display. A very rude woman pushed in front of me and grabbed a large nine west bag and demanded to know the price from the seller.

The seller said "$13" and the shopper immediately offered her "$5" and then they started haggling loudly. The seller insisted that the bag was "practically new and that's not a bad price for a nine west bag!" The shopper promptly counter-offered "$4!" and they continued arguing.

While all this was was going on I quietly picked up a nice, very clean, good condition Dooney&Bourke black leather bag and asked the seller's husband "how much?" and he said "$3".

So I paid him and as I was leaving I saw the nine-west shopper throw the bag down in disgust and stalk away!

When I got to my car I looked inside the bag again and saw that it has a brand-new purse-size sample of Prada perfume inside - so I got a little bonus on my $3 purchase!

I will get it authenticated but I am 99% certain that the D&B is genuine.

Stealthy, stealthy shoppers you two are :supacool:

The little hobo was really CLEAN...even the off white cotton part of the handle has NO wear or dirt!!.........your story made me smile.! When you've looked at thousands of nice quality bags you can often just gravitate straight to the good stuff!! And yes, LET THE MEN do the pricing LOL...I LOVE those kind of stories. would love to see your D&B too because I have a love for those as well :p
