Should I return it?

My own policy is that if I take longer than 28 days to decide I like something, then that's my problem. I don't expect companies to be overly accomodating unless there is a problem with their end of the transaction. I would suggest selling the bag on eBay. For an older style that's like new, you can probably get a good price.

Surely the stores have a maximum time limit for returning goods? Here it is usually 14 days for a refund some do 28 days for a store credit. Some of the bigger chain stores do 28 days for a refund I think Marks & Spencers give the longest 2-3 months but noone here would take a bag back after a year!!

From what Sprinkles said, there is no time limit to return items to Coach:

There is no time limit on returns as long as it's brand new still :)

If the item is new, and its Coach store policy that there is no time limit to return new items, then I would use that policy if I felt I had to. Since it's the store's policy, then there's nothing wrong with returning a new item that's been purchased some time ago. Especially if you have a receipt to prove it. That's me though, and I'm completely indecisive about my bags. Sometimes it just takes me longer to decide on a new bag I've purchased. :shrugs:

HandbagAshley, I am confused. Why would you even consider returning this bag to a Coach store considering that you recently purchased it on eBay?

eBay: Coach NEW Soho Signature Studded Large Hobo 6426 RARE (item 320036687082 end time Dec-24-06 07:09:55 PST)

So, let me get this straight: you bought a bag on eBay; you wore it a few times and decided you didn't like it or didn't use it enough or whatever; and now you want to return it to a Coach store for a refund or credit?

I just don't get it. But, I guess that explains why you don't have the receipt.

:wtf:

Ok, this is a bit different, and I didn't catch that HandbagAshley didn't have a receipt (I read everything too quickly). I guess basically, I'm just speechless to this.

:s :wtf:

I guess I didn't know it was such a big deal to return it to the Coach store if I bought it on eBay.

It had the tags attached, paperwork, wrapping, etc. and I brough it to the Coach store to check if it was authentic and they said most certainly yes it was.

Figuring so, I didn't see a problem with returning it to the store if I didn't like it.

But, after all of your reactions I guess that wasn't a good idea.

I'll keep it. As Jenniferelaine said "it is a limited edition and they're worth hanging on to"

Hope you guys don't think I am cheating the system or anything. Just thought because I had brought it to a Coach store when I got it in December and they said it was brand new and real that there wouldn't be a problem returning it. Guess I thought wrong. Sorry. :shame::s

It's not dishonest: I wore it once and that's the truth. Nothing dishonest about that. Plus as I stated: it had the tags, paperwork, and wrapping still on it when I bought it and I brought it to Coach to verify its authenticity.

Handbagashley, What I mean by being dishonest is that you bought it on eBay, wore it once, and were considering taking it back to a store for credit/exchange. To me, that is being dishonest.

As I teach my students in my class: everyone has opinions and just because it's not yours doesn't mean they're wrong.

Everyone has varying degrees of what they believe is honest or not.

When I took it to be authenticated, the SA at the Coach store told me if I didn't like it to keep the tags, cards, etc. and I could return it to them for merchandise credit.

Obviously, they thought it was fine to do that. You don't and therefore you wouldn't do that. That's fine. Whatever you do is your business.

I posted this thread to ask a simple question:

Should I return it or not?

I didn't post it to be slammed for my question. I was never rude to anyone else and for people to be to me is uncalled for. The appropriate way to handle your reaction would to fill me in on what not to do. Not to accuse me of being dishonest. But, I guess I am what you call "nice" and "understanding" to people.

Yeah, if it's a limited edition then I'd keep it. Not many people out there with this bag! I think it's pretty!

ETA: my hubby likes it too which is a big deal as he's picky! LOL! We both say keep it!

Okay, I am not going to beat this horse anymore, but I have a couple final things to say.

First, you said in your original post that you wore it "once in a while" which is different than only wearing it once. So were you telling the truth in your first post or most recent post?

Second, you said in your original post that you "lost the receipt" when, in fact, you never had one. So were you telling the truth in your first post or your most recent post?

Third, you said, "I guess I didn't know it was such a big deal to return it to the Coach store if I bought it on eBay" and "I didn't see a problem with returning it to the store if I didn't like it." Did you tell the truth when you took the bag into the Coach store? Did you tell them that it was purchased on eBay? Were you planning to disclose that information upon returning the bag to Coach when they asked if you had a receipt?

You say that you're not being dishonest and telling the truth but you are also talking out of both sides of your mouth. The biggest problem with this scenario is that you were about to commit retail fraud. It would be like buying a Coach bag at Nordstrom with some kind of store coupon and proceeding to walk down the mall to the Coach store and returning it there to get a merchandise credit for more than what you paid for it at Nordstrom. It's illegal, dishonest and wrong and, in my opinion, there is no other way to look at it. If you weren't happy with it why not just relist it on eBay? Probably because you would get less than what you paid for it and less than what Coach would give you for it.

Wow - you really don't get it, do you? You really see nothing wrong in what you were going to (or may still) do.

You weren't wronged by me or anyone else here. You made this everyone's business when you posted this thread. You got called out and now you're trying to back pedal.
