Should I return it?

Oh, so you will wear a bag and return it but you would refuse to buy one from the store that looks like it's been worn? Nice.

I think she meant that she wouldn't pay FULL RETAIL for a used bag ... I wouldn't either. I don't mind them used, but I better get some discount! Which LV doesn't do, hence people having to return bags and such.

I don't know what your deal is, but you need to chill out.

First of all my bag does not look like it's worn or they wouldn't take it back! Second, if you were following the conversation we said:
1.) Coach bags that are not in the boutique are returned go to the Outlet.
2.) My friend bought her LV from the LV boutique and paid full price.
3.) IF my hobo went to the outlet it would be reduced price.
4.) Obviously any items that are not factory made have been return items and people know this.

I hope you understand and can follow the conversation.

Actually, the items that aren't factory made often are items that didn't sell out in the stores before they changed their inventory. There are some returns but usually the items are factory made or sent from a boutique.

I think the problem people have with it is that 1.) Coach is losing $ because they won't be able to sell it at the price you bought it at (or the person you purchased it from on Ebay bought it at) and 2.) It seems dishonest since the bag HAS been worn and wasn't purchased in a Coach store.

Why can't you sell it on Ebay since you wanted cash instead of store credit anyway?

4.) Obviously any items that are not factory made have been return items and people know this.

I didn't want to get into this thread, but this is a very untrue statement.

In my store we will not return a bag if the customer says the item was used for a day or two. Also, if we do end up doing a customer accomodation for a used bag and we have to return it, it's considered damaged and at the end of the month the bag gets cut up - therefore the company loses money overall. So sometimes it's a bad situation and nothing used can be sent to outlets from the full price stores.

I'm glad you didn't return it though! It really is a cute bag.

Okay, I am not going to beat this horse anymore, but I have a couple final things to say.

First, you said in your original post that you wore it "once in a while" which is different than only wearing it once. So were you telling the truth in your first post or most recent post?

Second, you said in your original post that you "lost the receipt" when, in fact, you never had one. So were you telling the truth in your first post or your most recent post?

Third, you said, "I guess I didn't know it was such a big deal to return it to the Coach store if I bought it on eBay" and "I didn't see a problem with returning it to the store if I didn't like it." Did you tell the truth when you took the bag into the Coach store? Did you tell them that it was purchased on eBay? Were you planning to disclose that information upon returning the bag to Coach when they asked if you had a receipt?

You say that you're not being dishonest and telling the truth but you are also talking out of both sides of your mouth. The biggest problem with this scenario is that you were about to commit retail fraud. It would be like buying a Coach bag at Nordstrom with some kind of store coupon and proceeding to walk down the mall to the Coach store and returning it there to get a merchandise credit for more than what you paid for it at Nordstrom. It's illegal, dishonest and wrong and, in my opinion, there is no other way to look at it. If you weren't happy with it why not just relist it on eBay? Probably because you would get less than what you paid for it and less than what Coach would give you for it.

Respectfully, I am geniuinely curious here. Although if one did buy a purse at a discount at Nordstrom or other retailer, then proceeded to take it to Coach for a merchandise credit for more than they paid at the original retailer...that is actually illegal? I just asked dh who is a DM for a major retail chain, and he said he didn't think it's actually illegal. Ethnically questionable, but illegal..? :confused1:

It's illegal in Michigan, where I live - see paragraph 1(c) in both of these links:

Michigan Legislature

Michigan Legislature

Here's some additional information, too:

Why Is Return Fraud Illegal?

You may not have received an excess amount over or equal to the amounts listed above (or the amount set by your state) but it's still illegal and a morally unethical thing to do.

And, before anyone jumps all over me, I am responding to the question that was asked. I want to point out, also, that I am not judging ANYONE here. What people do is their own business and nobody is perfect. But, when we see something that just isn't right we have an obligation to hold each other accountable.

I want to point out that I haven't done anything illegal. I simply asked the question and it was definitely answered. However, I think the SA and Coach store that I spoke with also are misinformed.

If I did return it I would've lost money because I paid more than retail. I also think it's pretty funny that people think Coach will lose a whole bunch of money on this if I did return it. Are you kidding me? Do you think the purses we buy are actually worth what we pay? This is barely a speck on their radar (as someone else pointed out).

Anyways, I already said in big bold PURPLE letters....I HAVE DECIDED TO KEEP THE HOBO.

END OF DISCUSSION.

Ashley, I'm glad that you decided to keep the purse. It's cute. But, I hope the discussion has not ended because some questions were brought up about returns in general that have not been answered - what's legal, permitted by Coach, and ethical.

It's not been in the stores since last year, can I still return it to the Coach stores for merch credit?

Then:
If I said I got it as a gift will they refund me the money or will I still receive merchandise credit?

And then:

Yes, I told them I purchased it on eBAy and that's why I was getting it authenticated.
Yes, I would go back to the same Coach store that told me they would give me merch credit and speak to Karen who told me I could return it.

I'm REALLY confused! :confused1:
So coach stores will give merchandise credit even though the item was bought it on Ebay? But if you them it was a gift you'll receive a refund?

I never purchased an item from one venue and returned it to another. I'd consider that extremely unethical, but I'm curious if Coach really knowingly allows this.
