Thanks lulilu. Yes, I think I will have another appraisal. I gave them to my niece so I will try and borrow them when I meet her next time. Hopefully the first person was mistaken.

other than one member with pearls has anyone had anything appraised at a higher value? i bought 2 things from her at a very high cost and am now panicking

I don't think there is any excuse, that could be a valid one, at this point in time. Too much time has passed and too many people without product/ money. If she can post on facebook and apparently run another business, she can return emails, calls and people's hard earned money.

This makes my blood boil. To gain the trust of an entire community of people and to then turn around and take their money... I'm speechless. :nogood:

I understand how you're feeling, but please don't panic yet. I'm taking 10 items for appraisal this week. If they appraise at half what I paid, I'll be fine, and I will report back on what my appraiser says.

It's entirely possible that the one previous member's experience with a three times purchase price appraisal value for her item was a fluke. I'm also hoping that lovely64's experience is a one-off too. FF is a jewelry store, and jewelers mark things up significantly. That is standard, and I never believed it for one second when I was told I was buying pearls and other FF items at cost or a tiny percentage over cost. I assumed a hefty markup, because that's standard.

I was shocked and panicked too when I read lovely64's experience, because I
don't expect a markup that significant from FF.

It may be that no matter what experience we all have with our outside valuations of FF merchandise that you won't be comfortable, BabyBoo. You may need to bite the bullet and take your items in to be appraised.

I'm not sure that in the end it will make much difference. The art and antique dealers and small jewelers I deal with regularly would immediately accept a return for price paid, no matter when the purchase was made, if an appraisal came back like lovely64's. I don't think that would happen here in any case.

I think if she was ill, she should've closed her website . . . it's still open for business yet so many people on the internet are complaining about never receiving their goods{?}

She's also posting on her blog and buying things on ebay =(

You may not have because you are an experienced jewelry byuer -- but E claimed on several areas that she was selling things at way below retail, or for cost - and many people probably believed her.

I would not argue with you there. I'm far more cynical now than I would have been 20 years ago. And I would never have harsh words for anyone who did believe the claims, because they're given with such sincerity. What I was trying to explain, I guess badly, is that in my case, if my jewelry comes back appraised lower than what I paid, I will consider that standard in the industry and not something to be upset about, unless it's along the lines of what lovely64 experienced. My statement was meant to explain my POV only, not meant to extrapolate out or shape others' feelings.

Oh this is scarry, I bought a couple high priced items from her all diamonds and if I remember correctly lovely64 one of them is the same pair you bought... I will get my stuff appraised asap... this is a nightmare.

I am hopeful that everyone's issues with Japster are settled favorably and expeditiously. But I also think it's unfair for people to post here that because she has said she is ill, that equates with scamming people.

I think she is owed the benefit of the doubt until things are proved to be otherwise. Just because you would or would not put some kinds of photos on your Facebook page, or run your business a certain way doesn't mean that's how everyone behaves.

If she is ill, I hope things improve for her soon. And I hope people involved in business transactions with her obtain satisfaction.

Thank you, Mistikat. I absolutely refuse to join the witch-hunt that is not only going on now but has gone on here too many times to count. And when you ask me why I am defending her, I'll tell you it's because I trust her and I consider her a friend. If I believed everything anybody ever said about anyone else, I wouldn't have any friends. So I'm reserving judgement until I hear more from Elena. Because that's what friends do.

ETA: For those who asked, yes she has been hospitalized.

LVShoeFan2 - Have you contacted Elena to ask her about this and to direct her to this thread? Just wondering. Would be nice to here from her.

Please! If she is buying on ebay and posting updates what is a reasonable excuse? Even if those are false rumours, her website IS being updated so what is a valid excuse for not sending items or responding? Because I can't think of one. So please, give us some possible scenarios that would make these actions ok?

Me too, I think it's only fair to hear the other side to the story, yes everything appears shady and the cards are stacked against her but you never know. I used to be quite close to E (we as close as you can be via the net) and maybe I'm gulliable but I dont beleive this is her nature. I really don't understand why she would be throwing away a business that has been built for generations in her family. I believe she invested a lot into this business emotionally and monetarily over the past 10 years. Many times she would tell me she pulled all nighters to get her stock out in a timely manner... if she turned to scamming would that really pay off after all that effort? It doesn't add up to me... plus look at her inventory she would be stuck with all of that and no where to sell, she has thousands of diamonds in her diamond search.

I sorry some members are going through this grief, and I have tried to reach out to her several times... I too am very interested to see how this unfolds

There is no record of any company with her name or the division of her company name listed in Wisconsin. You can check yourself.
https://www.wdfi.org/apps/CorpSearch/Search.aspx?

The diamond search she has on her website is and add on from polygon.net. It searches the inventory of participating dealers so they can collectively sell their diamonds. Not a one of those diamonds belongs to Elana until the diamond is sold and then paid for by her. Go to that page and right click your mouse to view source and you can see where the search is coming from. It is Polygon.net.

I'm a thread lurker & don't have a lot of interest in this but have been watching. Sorry for that anon post. Didn't want the backlash.
