wanted to share some info about this product to you guys for two reasons.

First reason being, that one of our former members was pushing this product on our board a while back without disclosing her affiliation with Shining Monkey - more precisely, her being the owner of the business that sells SM as a bag care product. A person sharing her biased positive testimonials without actually telling that she cashes in on every order someone places in her store, constitutes a sneaky business tactic that doesn't fly with us.

Additionally, from communication on tPF, it became apparent that she did not disclose her affiliation on purpose, not wanting to deal with bitter customers, should her product have caused damage to a customer's bag. For this reason, her posting privileges were removed and the URL to the product was banned from tPF.

The product Shining Monkey Fabric Protector was initially introduced as a car care product to be used on targa tops, fabrics, or leather interiors. About 6 months ago, this product was migrated over to the fashion market as a bag/shoe care product. I learned that the long term effects that the product may have upon applying it to your precious bag's leather are anything but certain, as Shining Monkey has just recently been introduced as a bag care product (the website advertising it as a bag care product was registered in February of this year). Whether there was enough time to test its effects on different leathers that are used for designer bags is questionable.

I can not and will not vouche for any other bag care products, and maybe SM really works wonders on bags... however, judging by the poor business ethics by the owner and SM being new on the bag care market, I would like for you all to exercise caution. __________________

Honestly, to me it doesn't matter which members pointed it out. I understand the reasoning behind your actions. But I think crime is a little overstated.

The truth is, we have something in common here: You didn't mind Tammy's involvement with SM, you just were bothered by her method of endorsing it. I'm not bothered that you know about Tammy' involvement with SM, I'm just bothered by the method with which you obtained information about it.

Either way, it's not the end of the world. I'm tired of this thread!

Vlad and my decision to do this was from some information we were given (yep I was given tons of information) and that is why we did this. Much of the information is not going to be disclosed because it would create more issues. Fact is, this is about one person and what one person did- not about 'their' board or multiple people, just one person.

We never said don't use the product or that it sucks and will ruin your bags, because we don't know that. We said exercise caution and let you know about some tactics that were used and some words that were said... it was just information. Not a thread to cause some huge drama pit- whether people want to think that or not.

Thanks Megs, for setting the record straight. I felt a little reserved (I avoid the word paranoid) thinking that anyone would be privy to our personal information....including the administrators of this board. Thank you your indication that you are not using any private information anyone provides to draw any conclusions.

WOW! Such drama. I for one like Shining Monkey spray and I really don't care about the owner's affiliation. It's a good product which I found on my own. I think the owner may just wanted some privacy.

I used the term crime to draw out a mental picture. She didn't commit no crime, but she acted in a way that is not tolerated by the owners of this board.

In addition, and that may answer alexandra's question as well, I am sure you read when I mentioned that the proof of her involvement and the reason for Tammy's non-disclosure were found on this board. This thread builds up on evidence that I found as an administrator of this forum software, the hardware and the databases. As owner of the computer the site and forum runs on, I have the good right to do that.

It took some time to find it, but when I was approached about her business tactics, I did my research and upon finding out her real motivation, I banned her. I don't even exactly know why the BBB keeps on being brought up, because in this particular case, it has nothing to do with it.

The information supplied to Vlad, Megs and the PF mods came from a private message board accessible by members only. Of course, we all know this is the INTERNET, so there is no such thing a "private" and "members only." We have known for some time now (ever since we opened the board, actually) that there were one or two people there copying posts, lending out their IDs, and generally using whatever was posted there to stir up trouble wherever they could find a place to do it.

In a sense, the PF has become a victim of these "spies," who have copied and edited the posts they felt would be the most unpleasant and exploitive for their own needs. There is one forum on the BBB for people to "gripe" in, which they do freely and without moderation. There are a dozen other forums for discussing purses, buying, selling, off topic, etc... but I am sure they didn't copy threads from them. The people supplying information are only interested in one thing - sticking it to the BBB, its mods and members while at the same time causing trouble for them on the PF.

So, although the information about SM and its owners was accurate, the messengers' motivations were less than altruistic.

Swanky, I am a journalist...but, my information is still anonymous (as would the information of many other journalists, writers, actors, ect...) even if you know their names, certainly they would not desire to have their private information posted as public information. I think this is an unfortunate and heated discussion, and I regret asking any questions on this thread. I think I will go back and hang out with the Louis Vuitton people who asked me to find prices for them. I think it is sad chat about something as wonderful and as wonderfully distracting as handbags and end up in some sort of…I don’t know what on earth to call it. I may be Alexandra Lampert, but I still chose to keep my private life separate.
