Selling on Poshmark

Hi fellow purse lovers,

I’d love to share a nightmare that happened to me recently selling a vintage Chanel maxi jumbo. Long story short, the buyer wasn’t happy with the her purchase and opened a case under ‘not matching description’. Granted, I could have been more detailed listing out all the wear and tear etc but Poshmark passed inspection and shipped the bag to the buyer!

When asked to provide supporting evidence, the buyer decided to damage the bag for refund and here are some screenshots of what she did to the purse:

I rated my bag 6.5/10 in condition and she turned it into a 4/10 bag based on the pictures she shared. Now that poshmark approved her case, I’m afraid that the buyer would not even return the purse and in worst case scenario harass my family because Poshmark is going to share my personal details including my address with the unethical buyer

I’m super upset right now and could use some kind words and perspectives from your previous experience selling expensive items on Posh.

I am so sorry you have to go through this. Do you have pictures of the bag before you sent it to her? Maybe you can dispute with Poshmark. It is not fair that Poshmark only sides with the buyer.

Goodness gracious! I am so sorry you are going through this. I do know that selling on your own can be very stressful. I don’t understand why postmark would ever give out your personal information to the buyer. Also if the buyer gets a refund, the bag must be returned. Best of luck to you. Please keep us updated on how the situation will resolve.

I in fact shared both pics and video that I took prior to shipping the bag. Shared everything and they chose to side with the buyer. Also the risky part is they will have the buyer ship the bag back instead of routing via authentication. She could have shipped back nothing (which I care less about) and possessed my personal information. (Which is a huge security risk)

I sure will. For privacy purposes I won’t expose the buyer information but just be careful. I have seen so many scams these days with economic downturn. It’s a shame.

Make sure you record a video when you open the package, in case she sends you an empty box, you have proof.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I had something similar happen on Poshmark - I sold a light pink LV leather bag that was in excellent condition. Posh authenticated. Then, when the buyer received, they opened a case 2 days later saying there was color transfer on the back of the bag that was not described (which was created by the buyer, after they received it). Posh approved a return of the bag.

I went back and forth with them several times, citing my overall posh stats and explaining the escalation steps I would take if they did not release the funds (contact the better business bureau, my credit card company, etc.). After several emails back and forth, posh assumed responsibility for the bag and released my funds. You should continue to push until you have your desired resolution. I have since stopped using the service almost entirely.

Wow thank you so much for your detailed response! This is greatly helpful and I’m glad that your case was resolved to your favor after all the hassle. Here’s what I don’t understand about their business model - if they are charging sellers 20% fees on each transaction and adding additional scrutiny by introducing authentication, why do they have minimum seller protection? They are basically transferring all the risks to the sellers while assuming no financial responsibility when cases like malicious buyers happen. Also, they don’t even bother to have real customer support but these call centers in cheap centers of excellence who do not do anything to help you resolve issue

Inspired by your suggestion, here’s what I did:

I hope this works for you! I also think it’s important to contact posh support directly. I got the same BS auto response you did, but I sent several emails requesting escalation and eventually got someone in customer service to help.

I have done just that. Will keep this community updated on the case. Again, appreciate your feedback and advice!
