Selena Gomez and Coach - Thoughts?

Part of hot topics, she just talked about Selena becoming the face of Coach. Commented that she was the face of LV and mentioned that it could just be about a paycheck (going to Coach). There was more but I tend to tune in and out while she's talking.

She said that Coach is hoping that her 10+ million instagram followers translates to increased sales. Especially from younger buyers. She also mentioned that she was just featured in a LV campaign so she suspects that she really doesn't have any brand loyalty and that she just wants a paycheck.

You mean the same way Coach just wants OUR money?

Does anyone really have brand loyalty anymore? I carry multiple brands, and, oh how I wish they were paying me for it.

That and her ads for LV raised an eyebrow from many of "can her fans really afford that? That's not approachable."

I'm just hoping the bags are decent. That her name is on it is somewhat inconsequential to me.

She was only featured in the one ad campaign, but LV has been dressing her for years. She's also sat front row at all their shows for the past couple years, as well as being dressed by them for the met gala. So I'd say she had quite a bit of brand loyalty, but they seem to want to keep michelle williams and jennifer connelly as the real faces of the brand, so maybe this was an opportunity for her to be the front face of a brand? plus she has carried quite a bit of coach too.

Not knocking her or any face of this or any brand, but why? Just make bags that people want. Let the bags be the face of the company.

I agree -- people will only buy the items they like, regardless of whose face or name is on it! If Bonnie Cashin herself were around to work with Coach again, her designs wouldn't sell if people found them hideous.

I would take the paycheck too honestly. It's basically licensing your name and image for a year or two. Pretty sweet deal for celebrities.

Maybe not "most people," but a lot of people will do exactly that. That's why all brands do it!
Agreed.

Especially with the tween/teen demographic which is why they'd choose someone like her. Sure premier lines do it, but with the younger set, it's very popular and more overt. Just look at the celebrity fragrance ranges.
