Are you referring to the orange box the scarves come in? Or some other type of special box that I'm not aware of? If the latter please share! I'd love to know.

If the former, yes I am still storing my H scarves in their boxes. A couple of them share a box since they were resale and came without boxes. And almost all my pochettes share a 90 size box. For now, this works for me for several reasons, including the fact that I have few enough scarves that the boxes don't take up an inordinate amount of room (yet). I like knowing they're snug and safe in their acid free paper and I still get a kick out of seeing the collection of orange boxes, what can I say?....:amuse:

I did need to label the boxes recently though, that was getting a little bit cray.

can you pls explain what you mean by the colors running?
are you referring to the "decorative boxes" available on the hermes site (i put a link in my previous post) or the orange H box?
i would def like to know more about the colors running since that sounds dangerous!
TIA for letting me know of the potential issue! :)

I'm referring to the decorative scarf storage boxes:

http://australia.hermes.com/house/d...box/boitakare-boite-carre-moongold-63459.html

They are really, really beautiful. I currently store all of my scarves in their original orange boxes wrapped in tissue paper. I became interested in the decorative boxes because I like the idea of storing them so I can flip through them when deciding which one to wear, without having to get in and out of several boxes. It gets quite annoying have to go into each individual orange box all the time (and I can't see what scarf is in what box, so it's always a lucky dip). First world problem I know :p Plus the decorative boxes themselves are so beautiful and I thought they would look lovely in my home :D

The reason why I didn't end up buying these decorative boxes is because I read somewhere that piling silk scarves on top of each other without tissue paper in between can lead to the colours running. I'm pretty sure I read that here on TPF. I don't know if it's true, but just the thought of it turned me off. That's why I would love to hear from someone who currently uses these beautiful boxes to know how their scarves are holding up... I really hope it's just a myth because I would love to use one of the decorative boxes but I don't want to destroy my scarves in the long run.

They are beautiful for sure.

I'm only familiar with colors running occasionally when scarves are washed. I can't imagine why they'd run while simply stored. None of my scarves sharing an orange box have run. Perhaps some one else will know.

As to finding them in the orange boxes, that's why I labeled them. [emoji1]

I like them and wonder how many scarves one may fit?
Colours from carrés don't run unless they are wet , and then it's only the older ones with a lot of red or black.
I do like the idea of interleaving them with acid free tissue though, more to create air and prevent too tight a pile.
I keep mine in the boxes and then in a deep drawer. It's a real pain looking for a scarf .
Now this has given me the idea of storing them in large orange box that my bag came in .
Although the boxes are pretty they are too modern for my taste .

So the tissue paper that comes in the orange boxes... it doesn't really serve a purpose? If it was removed the scarves would be fine? I have no idea :shrugs:

It's great to hear that you ladies have stored scarves on top of each other with no separating tissue paper and your scarves are perfectly fine :graucho: This revelation could be dangerous for me...

I tested out how many scarves the boxes fit with me SA - from memory each box holds around 5 90s?

I get to work on a closet redesign! What do you think of a vertical pullout with hanging rods? I just can't decide....I like the idea of it. I welcome your thoughts

How many scarves do you have ? There are only 13 in the photo , not sure you couldnt get the same access by just putting scarves on hangers , and oin rods , which is a bit more flexible if 5 years from now , you decide the ditch the scarves and need more space for other stuff

Just though - wonder if scarves might get stuck, when you close it, especially for very light scarves like mousse, CS would probably not be an issue

Map drawers are popular - chest of drawers with shallo and wide drawers - like for maps - Mai Tai has a variant on that

The tissue paper is used to keep stuff from sliding around in box when you tote the bag home

The tissue can be removed, esp if you are not sure you have acid free paper

You can store in ziploc bags one on top of the other - gallon bags fit a 90cm quite nicely

How do you all store your giant cashmeres in the warmer weather? I actually use them throughout the summer, but am willing to have less frequent access for the next few months to be sure they are moth free. Thanks!

I keep my silks in a scarf drawer but the cashmeres stay in their boxes. Has anyone ever had a moth find its way inside an H box?

Quick pic of my scarves in current use. They live in a set of Muji stacking drawers. The drawers are the exact right width for a folded scarf or shawl. The height is perfect for rolled twillies and all the assorted little orange boxes.

Others are in deep storage in acid free lined containers. If I'm after a special look I'll go forage. Absolute treasures live in original H boxes. Current shawls hang on Muji hangers with my clothes.

Theoretically I'd love an architect's set of drawers or a fabulous storage system, but It's not going to happen anytime soon. All the vintage drawer sets I've seen since I started looking have been restored and smell of refinishing materials. This set up will do for now.

Look what I found at IKEA: a scarf chest
Cheaper than a twilly!

Interesting and they come in diff sizes ....
To me , the issue is the size of the h scarf - a 90cm fits well I a 10 x 10 in space , or 11 x 11 if you use the box too , 14 in is too wide - wasted space but say a 10 z 20 in drawer is great

So , I always wind up checking box / drawer sizes versus scarf size ....

And do you wNt the scarves flat - like they would be in a box or doubled over like in the store display cAses ? Lots to think about

:goodpost:
I went to IKEA by bike, without a scarf. But I see myself sneaking in some next time to see how well I can use the drawers. Especially since I do not know the exact inner dimensions of the drawers. Neither do I know where to put that chest.
With growing collection come growing storage challenges. "First world problems..."
I prefer folded over like at the store, easier to pull out.
At the moment I am using these, but the drawers are kind of hard to pull out:

Glad to see some action over on this thread, my storage problem is acute but inertia stops me from doing anything too constructive. It was easier to sell off a few scarves.
I live in a Victorian house with no built in drawers and cupboards ,and so much as I like the Muji and Ikea options they wouldn't fit my antique set-up.
I almost bought this piece , described as a Pyramid chest and quite big at 5' high. It would have been perfect , but unless they are within fingertips reach I wouldn't wear my scarves [ I am really lazy] and in the end I think it may have looked very strange in the bedroom!
I would have painted it French Grey , stored CSGMs in the lower drawers going up in sizes to Gavroches at the top.
I just didn't remember to bid:roll eyes: and it sold for birdseed.
