Silkies - I have finally found a great storage system for my silks. When arabesques first shared a photo of her " Chinese Chicken Coop" on her blog many moons ago, I became enamoured with the idea of an asian chest to house my silks. Then Masik had a brilliant post regarding the Kimono Tansu that seemed to fit the size and look that I needed for my bedroom. http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes/storing-my-scarves-91006-14.html

Living in an old house has space limitations for closets and furniture pieces. So off I went hunting for the Kimono Tansu that would have enough shelves to home my silks. Finally found a wonderful asian antique dealer who specializes in tansus of all types, ages and price ranges for my budget.

Here it is at long last, and I've yet to finish selecting the silks to display and store for the season. The process really helped me identify which silks I would reach for near term, and store the seasonal silks in the drawers below. The tansu also became a catalyst for redoing my entire bedroom, including ordering a new bed, painting and dressers and night stands to come.

S'Mom was such a great help to me - and I am so very grateful for her friendship and support in the process.:hugs:

Hope this is of help to you all. The wood is Kiri wood and withstands humidity and I believe the light scent deters insects as well. Just a partial view of my silks as I am still going through my editing. More photos to come!

^^^Oh my goodness, that's amazing Lanit!! Storage goals!! I bet you've had a lot of enjoyment out of organizing your silks in such an easy-to-access manner. So much easier to make choices for the day. Bravo my friend!!

Congrats on this beautiful antique. So befitting of your lovely collection. Thank you for sharing! Would love to see more pics when you are done rearranging.

That is so PERFECT, Dear Lanit! I'm happy that somebody had appreciated that oldie! Judging by its look, it is from 1930s and yes, Japanese people knew how to make chests to store silks in their climate . I LOVE tansu and have 5 around the house, I think it is one of the BEST storage ideas around. And they look super and so unconventional, do they?!

What a gorgeous piece and a great way to honor and store your collection! So stunning!

Thank you all for your sweet words. I'm happy to share any storage ideas especially when it comes to H silks. I'm sue curious how others keep their silks in drawers or closets. I thought I would have a cab its maker create a custom one, but it proved I practicL and extremely costly to fabricate. Perhaps as wel downsize there will be a day that we will have a special drawer similar to flat files built in. But the tansu seems to fit my immediate needs for now.:roflmfao:

It's perfect lanit!!! I love the tansu and have a few as well, but none so accommodating for silk storage. What a wonderful inspiration for a redecorating project!

+200;)

Absolutely brilliant dear lanit! :cool:I can't wait to see the additional pictures:graucho:

While I'd love to have a Scarf Altar one day where they can be arranged like the scarf counter in the Hermes boutique, I currently have them stored two to a box, with a clear plastic label on the exterior. I keep the store tags in the box. (I'm out of my label making tape, so a few boxes are still unlabeled at the moment).

Like Memo, I too have an Excel database of my scarves, but what has proven to be far more useful is the Scarf Board I created by printing out the pictures I used for my individual scarf profiles in my Scarf Circus thread. That way I can see what I have at a glance, and besides, it's just pretty to look at! :D

Ladybaga - you never fail to crack me up!!! "Mystery Scarf Theater!!!!!" LOL!!!! Smart idea about taping the store label to the outside of the box.
Wow! what an incredible stack!

does anybody use a hermes scarf box to store their scarves?

I would be curious to know this too! There are a few scarf boxes that are absolutely gorgeous, but I worry about the colours running as I've heard that can happen?

Are you referring to the orange box the scarves come in? Or some other type of special box that I'm not aware of? If the latter please share! I'd love to know.

If the former, yes I am still storing my H scarves in their boxes. A couple of them share a box since they were resale and came without boxes. And almost all my pochettes share a 90 size box. For now, this works for me for several reasons, including the fact that I have few enough scarves that the boxes don't take up an inordinate amount of room (yet). I like knowing they're snug and safe in their acid free paper and I still get a kick out of seeing the collection of orange boxes, what can I say?....:amuse:

I did need to label the boxes recently though, that was getting a little bit cray.

I am currently storing my scarves in the Orange H box as well, but I wanted to know if anybody actually used the "decorative boxes" available on the Hermes site: http://usa.hermes.com/house/decorative-boxes/scarf-box/m-box-boitakare-63248.html (hopefully this link works for you)

i have yet to see any in person, but am planning on going to the store very soon

can you pls explain what you mean by the colors running?
are you referring to the "decorative boxes" available on the hermes site (i put a link in my previous post) or the orange H box?
i would def like to know more about the colors running since that sounds dangerous!
TIA for letting me know of the potential issue! :)
