It took a while, but the envelopes finally arrived and I've begun the switch from sort-of chaos to reasonable order. I love the envelopes because they let the silk breathe since they are plastic on one side and fabric on the other. Getting the boards was a real pain but I got it done and they work :D.

I've not settled on a crate, filing system, basket or whatever to store the envelopes in, but my bigger problem was storing the scarves themselves so I'm happy with my progress thus far. I've left the plisse, the pointu and the chale in their orange boxes since I don't have enough of these sizes/styles yet (:graucho:) to confuse me. Since the company has different sizes of these envelopes, one or more of them may work.
WOW!! fantastic!! Congratulations, I would love to be able to do something like this.

GREAT SYSTEM.......and I think everyone loves their own. I cannot part with any of my orange boxes as well and have a small photocopy of the scarf on the front of the box (or accessorie) with the date I got it. They are stacked alpha wise in my armoire. The shawls are hung in the armoire with their boxes (photocopies as well) stacked together, just for maintenance purpose. Everyone figures out their own system.

This is really really nice!!! Thanks for sharing with us testilegirl.

jeez i feel bad now. i just take them off and chuck them unfolded into this pretty fabric storage box

I have what is supposedly a "scarf drawer" where I always intend to create a neatly arranged H-style array, from which I can easily choose my carre du jour.

Well......that didn't work for long! So now I'm going for that artlessly disarranged, casual look. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Just discovered this thread because I have to find another scarf-drawer for my beloved Silkys. My Scarf-Altar is so beautiful, but sadly there is no space for just one more scarf.

Lanit - your system looks so organized. Congratulations!

here ya go -- for the envelopes: METAL EDGE PRODUCTS

and for the boards (which i got slightly smaller than the envelopes to leave room for the scarf around it): METAL EDGE PRODUCTS

i've found that soft, vintage scarves really need two boards to fold well, for new scarves one was fine.

but DON'T place your order online -- shipping costs too much. call up and they calculate actual shipping (i think the website charges a % of the sale amount).

can anyone help identify the card - i can't seem to find it on the metal edge products website - not sure if i've searched correctly or that its out of stock

Hi

A year or so ago I bought my first Twilly. Hmmm, things have moved on a bit since then, I now own four Carres, five twillys and a plisse...oh and a hapi. I have also got into other scarves. I haven't been on TPF much because I haven't really had a lot of time, but you were all so helpful in enabling me to catch this habit, I hope you might now help me deal with storing the outputs :yahoo:

I need a storage/display solution. I mean, the orange boxes are nice to look at but when I am racing out the door I don't have time to open each box and decide what to wear. But I also don't want to leave that lovely silk out to collect dust...

So, please share what you do in terms of scarf storage? Photos would be great too.

Thanks heaps

Ooh, thanks moderator for moving my question to this thread. Totally missed it. :ty:

I do the same as Clutch, I have a drawer that I have lined with the acid free paper and
have them folded H-style. It makes them very easy to choose.

This is an amazing storage solution, in need of a well deserved BUMP!!

Has anyone identified a UK seller for any of these items? Particularly struggling to locate the envelopes which are part paper part poly, or part material, part poly. All our 'window' envelopes are literally the envelopes sent through the post with a window for the address display!!

Amazing storage system!

A great thread, it totally appeals to the librarian in me! So far I don't have enough scarves to fight my urge to hold onto the lovely orange boxes. I have been adding white string tags to my boxes and dustbags to help with identification.

Comic book stores in any country should have acid free envelopes, boards, and boxes...it's just a question of sizes since those will be rectangular shaped. I think I'll take a look at the Container Store the next time I'm stateside, they had archival quality items for storage and photos the last time I looked (ages ago for my mother's old family photos).

Now I just need to motivate my sister to organize her scarf collection, they're scattered over chairs and on the dining room table half the time :lecture:

Just bumping this thread up because I found a lot of helpful solutions here. I am still sorting through purchases, and I have the archival tissue, but I was a bit stymied by how to store them safely (those that aren't in their orange boxes!); some great ideas on this thread; thanks all contributors!

My collection of scarves is small enough that I just keep them in a Henri Bendel box on a shelf. As the collection grows, I'll have to sort something else out.

For my non-Hermes scarves, I just keep them on a scarf hanger from the Container Store.
