Thanks Kristie and hello 2703. I haven't tried Paypal for ages - they used not to have South Africa on their list but maybe that's changed.
And thanks for the warm welcome... although I know that making your acquaintance is going to encourage that downhill trip into Hermes Heaven (the colour of that bag, Kristie! which scarf will match?!)
2703 do you ride? And do you ever ride with any of your scarves - do tell! (I'll tell if you will).

Yes Lolo, I am a very avid rider (3Day Eventer). When I got my first Hermes scarf years ago (Brides de Gala) I rode with it once or twice. But nowadays my scarves are so treasured (the BdG included) that I don't want to use them while riding. I also clean my horse myself and I am always dirty  ! I am searching however for something a little beat up that I can wear when I ride the foxhunt this fall (no worries, no real foxes involved).

Hello 2703 - you are a braver girl than I; you are probably also a lot younger! My limit these days is hacking on our farm, and a bit of jumping. Oh and hunting is no bother to me: we have jakkals on the farm (local equivalent of foxes, I suppose) and I thought they were the cutest things until I saw them ripping a foal out of a zebra mare who was giving birth. If we had a hunt here I would be only too happy.
(Sorry, I sound a bit bloodthirsty for a demure wearer of Hermes!)

Over the years I have managed to get some rather tired Hermes scarves for riding; others I have battered myself, in my foolish youth. When I do see some online I will give you a heads-up. The trick is to remember to take them off when picking hooves etc...

Happy hunting!

The 40s are our glory years, believe me (as mine draw to a close next year.) From your "non-fox" hunting, I wonder if you are in the UK?
I hope your birthday brings a Birkin, a twilly or whatever is next on your hit list...

Thanks Shopmom, for the warm welcome. I think the Big 5-0 will be justification for some serious Hermes therapy for us both, 'though I haven't hit the bags yet. When I convert the prices to my local currency I want to faint... so I am limiting myself to scarves as i have collected them since my teens (a family friend from Switzerland used to give them to me every year and I thought they were SO uncool then!) Now that I am reaching a "certain age" (what?! where did the years go!) I really appreciate them.

Another former rider here....I played Polo for years, my pony died 3 years ago. I went on a "fox hunt" once here in Australia that had a 'false' scent laid for the dogs to follow....and I've been on a 'real' one, and they took the paw off the animal at the end and stamped all us 'hunting newbies" on the forehead with the blood.......ugh!

Hi lolo,

I am based in Hungary. We have a "fox", i.e. a rider who is given a lead and then we chase him. The Halali is when the "fox" is in a big field ahead of us, and then the "pack" (we) has to catch him and tear off the foxtail which is pinned to his jacket. It's fun!

Kristie: Now that is a very tough sport, Polo!

Maybe we should open another thread....

Hello Kristie and 2703. There is honour amongst equestrians which requires that you divulge all your equestrain applicationsrelatin to Hermes. EVer used one as a sling when you had a fall out hacking and thought your collar bone was broken? I have! Used it to shelter your delicate peachy skin from the galloping wind? Tied a snapped rein? The possibilities are endless, and it offers a far more elegant solution thaan a piece of baling twine.
Clearly it the Hermes scarf is a vital piece of riding and safety equipment.lets all wear them when we ride!
(That said, you know I already only wear the tatty old ones picked up at thrift shops - I mean I am not completely demented.

2703 please tell me that your chosen name does not reflect reflect your current number of scarves, birkins, etc.

Keep on shopping, I say.
Lolo (now 9 scarves found and bought over the past week. Family will complain of hunger shortly)

New thread - Hermes on Horseback, perhaps?!

lolo, I just checked you can use PayPal in RSA, yippie!
I wish I had 2703 Hermes items! 2703 is the birthday of my horse Hello. Although at the rate I am going right now, I might reach that number pretty soon.... :))) I received a beautiful Provenance in the mail yesterday that I am simply thrilled about!
You are right, an Hermes is a vital piece of safety equipment when riding, I will start using one! Since I wash my scarves myself, it shouldn't be to bad.... I hope. I have a beautiful Jumping in green and brown tones that could do the job....

Hello.....I'd love to see your new scarf! Any hope for a pic? I don't think I've seen Provenance yet......please?

Hi Shopmom, believe it or not, I don't yet have a digital camera! I am always weary of the cost :graucho: can you believe it (plus I cannot decide which model to get)? I think I'll go out and buy one today as I do want to photograph my Hermes beauties  .
If you know "Paris Qui Roule" of this year's spring collection, it is a reissue of Provenance.
OK I gotta go and get a digital camera..... I promise!

Man...I think it would be so great to post pics of all the scarves with the names....that would one LONG thread though.....ok....I'm off to surf through Luxury-Scarves before I hit the hay!

Lolo and Hello, loved reading about your equestrian exploits! Haven't been riding in years, I should get back to it. I have plenty of scarves to tie the reins with:laugh:

Hello, I thought I was the only one here to be camera challenged. I finally pulled out this cheapo someone gave me and took some pics. If I can do it, I'm sure you will have no problems.

LadyAuthentic on eBay is a great seller and she has scarves and bags from time to time. I just bought a Tohu Bohu twilly from her and have to pick it up at the Post Office. They have gone all nutty here about packages since the latest airline scare.

BTW, whenever you see a pic of Queen Elizabeth in the country with her horses, she is wearing her Hermes scarf. Don't think she rides anymore tho:upsidedown:
