My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

Artist Akira Yamaguchi's masterpiece for Hermes immediately captured my attention this year. At first I thought that I would be satisfied with one colorway, but as more appeared at random times on h.com I found myself hitting buy three more times. I purchased two books of his artwork which helped me to understand this scarf better. And, I use a detail of this scarf as my avatar here on the forum.

Clearly this magnificent scarf by this accomplished artist is deserving of awards least of all mine.

My Favorite Design of the Year goes to Les Artisans D'Hermes.

Such a beautiful design; all your cws are gorgeous and special. Congratulations, RBH. It’s hard to go wrong with any as they are all soooo right! I should check it out more carefully but right now I’m waiting for a few possibles (happily, from Fashionphile and H.com, both of which have free returns which allows me to “try on” at home and send back if I decide I don’t want them) and I want to build my Kermit Oliver collection up only a bit in 2021.

Now the question is what will 2021 bring us silk lovers? My tansu is so full I must edit before buying anything else. Reflecting on this past year I sought out vintage and also Landed some very Special Edition silks too, and I enjoyed contributing to some worthy causes. So here are my “nominees” as they are all winners in my world
Best Shawl- that I wear the most this year ( My bd gift at start of Pandemic)

Fantastic, lanit. I love the cw you chose for la cite. And you are making me wish I had tracked down the orange/blue clf. *sigh*

And now I will begin my quest for a galop volant...

I don't quite know where to begin this week. I can't say my habits have changed all that much. I think I did tone it down just a little this year in purchasing, but still....not enough of the letting go for me yet.

I'll start with my up and coming favorite new format for me. It is getting dangerously close to overtaking mousselines in terms of the "favorite format" factor. So this is me: :woot: ... and my wallet: :crybaby:

This year a favorite purchase and favorite design are combined in to one "Best All Around Purchase" with Cosmographia CSGM:

And since I did go to a boutique earlier in the year, I'm giving favorite in person boutique purchase to Brides de Gala en Quadri:

I always admire your brides moussie, bunny. I regret not picking this one up whenever you post it!!

I bought 50+ scarves this year, of all sizes. (Does this sound like a beginning of an AA meeting?)

I will be sharing during the week, but my most favorite ought to be the one I got my husband for Christmas — red/navy cashmere and silk one. Because I am allergic to cashmere, he knows I cannot steal it, so it’s true love
What a beautiful red! We are waiting for your posts with bated breath

Thank you so kindly, dear Yoon! I like red very much. I have actually named this tigre, whom I have deemed a female, ‘Binta’. This year in April, I think, we had a theme based on the Hermès Le Robinson Chic scarf, which looks like this (not mine; internet photo; I don’t own this scarf, but it is fun, isn’t it?).
View attachment 4939714
My contribution to this theme included my Tigre Royal Fleuri 70 and Binta was the star of my Robinson Crusoe adventure :hbeat:.
That was a great theme... I don’t own this design, but really should!

I suppose I could call these the joint winners of the Last Hurrah Prize  for a year when retail therapy became more than just a buzz word.

Last scarf mail of 2020: I opened the package a scant 20 mins ago. It's a special ed of Perspective - bought for curiosity value. It was issued for The International Federation for Human Rights and incorporates Jane Birkin's signature in the design.
View attachment 4940127
And my last boutique purchase of 2020: Mega Chariot, picked up yesterday. I think it appealed to me because it hearks back to a much simpler age when I could fangirl Optimus Prime  (now I obsess over Bruce Wayne's mental stability :giggle: ).

LOL! But, seriously, you always find the most special and unique silks! The shawl is amazing

Thanks, fifi!
Awillow, stunning. That is one of the most beautiful mousselines I have seen, not to disregard any mousselines. It is so elegant and drapes gorgeously. Oh my! :girlsigh:
Oh, and a very witty way to “award” it :giggle:.

What an excellent start you’ve gotten! It’s great that you’ve already honed into detail preferences that work for you. CS s.e. is a treasure.

Fifi, you always find the yummiest cw’s... Of course I love your bolds, but am smitten by that pink UTW (and it looks fab’ on you)

A beautiful classic!!
So pretty, cookie! You look fab!
Thanks cutie!! :hugs:
Evolving tastes is what makes us yearn for that which we were unsure of originally, or at least that is how it is for me. ITCW is a design I would grab now but it’s so expensive on the resale market. Animapolis, too! ( :graucho: ) And as I have said before, I can’t buy everything nor do I want to (although I certainly added to the collex this year. Blame it on the pandemic.;)

Passing on Appaloosa des Steppes when available at H, I finally found one this year - my framboise/canard cw. Not easy to find, though; this one came from France and not pristine condition. I have washed it but feel a good starching is needed (or whatever that starch-like product is, which I know I can look up; the name is just eluding me right now).
I feel that I do need to reevaluate my collection but good luck to me to have the courage to part with any of it - what if my tastes change back? :panic:
There are some scarves I just don’t get around to wearing. And that makes me feel bad because I certainly don’t buy these at these variously expensive or occasional good-deal prices for them to sit in the drawer!

Three!! :faint:
Congratulations! I think getting the books too much be really helpful in understanding the design elements - well done!

Hmm, a fun theme! I'll try to keep things to just three categories, all with archive pics as I'm away from my collection at the moment.

Most Worn: Carre Kantha CSGM
I am thrilled at how often I pull out my new-to-me Carre Kantha CSGM. It's been perfect for cool weather and goes well with most of my winter wardrobe.

Most Inspiring: Plumes en Fete 90
This is the scarf that started it all, my 30th birihday scarf and the one that started me down the slippery orange slope.

Most Exciting Find: Into the Canadian Wild 90
I'd had my eye on this one since starting my collection, so I jumped on it when I found it gently preloved at retail price. It's been a joy figuring out how to tie it different ways to highlight all the different wildlife.

Wow! I ended up with the blue one, but can easily see getting multiples!

Congratulations, Twin! It’s a gorgeous scarf design and cw. A beautiful gift. I purchased mine in January at Hermès on Broad St NYC (Wall St area). My DH gave me Savana Dance for Christmas last year. It means so much to me. I really adore my 70s. Here are a couple ofView attachment 4939120View attachment 4939118 pics.
beautiful, the design is one of my Oscarfs!

Thank you for the wonderful introduction to Oscarf week, Fifi. All of my Hermes scarves were acquired during 2020, so they are all in the running for an Oscarf Award.

I like colorful scarves with interesting designs, and I tend away from horse bit, military, colonial and hunting themes. However, I have been inspired by many of you to look at vintage designs as well as neutral colors, and that leads me to my first Oscarf Award of the week.

Yesterday's scarf mail brought me a scarf from 1948 by Hugo Grygkar, which makes it my oldest scarf, as well as being older than me. Chevaux de Cirque celebrates the horse as a circus performer. I love the large ostrich plumes and I can almost hear how the bells jingle in rhythm as they trot around the ring.

My Most Vintage Award goes to Chevaux de Cirque.
