My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

Lost track already after 2 days... busy days at work.
after starting to buy scarves on a more significant scale last year, my purchases also increased this year, for some of the reasons you described. I also learned better about what I like and what I could let go. This year was also my first at this forum, and I much enjoy the time out your posts provide. Definitely something to keep post COVID!

my Oscarf this year goes to Charabia, SOTD. I love the quiet design and its colours.

I love this on you, agrume.such an interesting layering of designs.

Evolving tastes is what makes us yearn for that which we were unsure of originally, or at least that is how it is for me. ITCW is a design I would grab now but it’s so expensive on the resale market. Animapolis, too! ( :graucho: ) And as I have said before, I can’t buy everything nor do I want to (although I certainly added to the collex this year. Blame it on the pandemic.;)

Passing on Appaloosa des Steppes when available at H, I finally found one this year - my framboise/canard cw. Not easy to find, though; this one came from France and not pristine condition. I have washed it but feel a good starching is needed (or whatever that starch-like product is, which I know I can look up; the name is just eluding me right now).
I feel that I do need to reevaluate my collection but good luck to me to have the courage to part with any of it - what if my tastes change back? :panic:
There are some scarves I just don’t get around to wearing. And that makes me feel bad because I certainly don’t buy these at these variously expensive or occasional good-deal prices for them to sit in the drawer!

This is a fabulous CW and I love it with your sweater... and, with the lariat necklace in the second pic! This was also one of those designs for me as well... I avoided it because of the horse’s eye, and when I finally decided I wanted it, it was nearly impossible to find... got mine a year later and that was a miracle. There was just this one there in the case in the store and I gasped... But, I would love to own a more muted, neutral CW like yours as well... just impossible to find, though at this point

Not sure if you are referring to TRF or SD, but I agree, Agrume - both of these designs are grand. I know the fleuri on La Tigre’s head caused some shock, but I quite love them (my Tigre is a female :girlsigh:).
SD, Karenska. like a movement frozen on the scarf.

I love this on you, agrume.such an interesting layering of designs.
thank you so much, Awillow!

Artist Akira Yamaguchi's masterpiece for Hermes immediately captured my attention this year. At first I thought that I would be satisfied with one colorway, but as more appeared at random times on h.com I found myself hitting buy three more times. I purchased two books of his artwork which helped me to understand this scarf better. And, I use a detail of this scarf as my avatar here on the forum.

Clearly this magnificent scarf by this accomplished artist is deserving of awards least of all mine.

My Favorite Design of the Year goes to Les Artisans D'Hermes.

:smartass: Such an impressive analysis! :smartass:
I’ve enjoyed seeing how lovely you also look in non-red scarves... what fun discovering new possibilities (though in my head you’re still the red queen):queen:
Can’t wait to see those yet unshared :happydance:

I’ve updated my spreadsheet, but lack in Excel skills and am grappling with trying to keep info a legible size when printed. I’m trying a new vertical front,cont’d-on-back format vs. my original landscape formatted cram-it-on-minuscule to have minimum number of pages (requiring a magnifying glass)!
If you have any tips or suggestions I’d love to hear them...
Hi! One option you might like: Airtable. It’s an online database that is as easy to use as a spreadsheet. The feature that makes it good for scarf tracking is that it’s designed to be easy to drop in photos. The free version is plenty for this type of use.

(I love excel, but for anything I’m cataloging, like scarves or jewelry, I use airtable.)

My award to Preferred Format of the Year goes to the CSGM...
Since I live in a tropical climate, I was never much drawn to cashmere shawls, nevermind that I have a mild allergy to cashmere. But, last year I took a chance with the format and found that shawls are actually very useful as they come in handy in highly air conditioned places and are great for travel.
But, my CSGM collection truly exploded this year, probably as a result of the pandemic. I was astounded to do a recount at the end of the year to see that I’ve acquired a grand total of 15! This year has been my most expansive and expensive Hermes scarf-buying year ever!
I am very pleased with my shawl collection as I now own nearly all of my CSGM Grails, which is pretty remarkable.
So, here are the shawls that win the award for Best Shawl of the Year... Yes, it’s a tie among these five beauties...
My last shawl purchase of the year and among my favorites is this Ex Libris en Kimonos

I purchased a grand total of three Parures de Samourais shawls... I am in awe of each one, but the blue CW was my first and remains my favorite

My most impacting and dramatic shawl is my red The Savana Dance. I was lucky to also find the navy CW of this design, but this one is unparalleled

L’Arbre de Vie in this black CW was the most elusive of my CSGM Grails. I had been pursuing it since last year when I started my shawl adventures. I missed out on it twice until I finally landed this one this last summer. I am wearing it today and I am thrilled with it

And, once again, my first CSGM of the year, and a most amazing design: La Femme aux Semelles de Vent
