My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

Merry Christmas to my dear tPFers who celebrate and Happy Holidays to all. Sending you all good cheer and lots of :hugs:‘s, and here’s to leaving this terrible year behind us. You are all so lovely and caring, and unique in your individual style. I love your comments and offerings, and I look forward to sharing in 2021.:hbeat::hugs:
What a sweet post, karenska! ❤

圣诞节快乐 Happy Holidays from the tropics! My sis-in-law is coming over on Boxing Day and we are going to have a small get-together (only 5 visitors allowed). Our very untraditional Christmas feast will feature Malay/Indian spiced rice, Thai green curry, Japanese tuna tataki with Turkish cress & sorrel salad, and colourful home-made Chinese pickles!

Wearing Neige d'Antan today.

And here's hoping 2021 will rise Phoenix-like from the calamities of this year.

Sounds wonderful, xcs. I *love* your phoenix cw!!!

First, SOTD, untraditional colors but festive and appropriate IMHO, nonetheless! Axis Mundi with it’s universal themes. Showcasing the hen because, after all, there were three and they were French! :giggle: Nicole Barr Santa Moon pin.

And now for timely scarf mail (drumroll, please...). Sister with @Redbirdhermes and @Croisette7 and many others, I am sure. L’Hiver en Poste! Wikipedia has a juicy article about the Bull and Mouth Coaching Inn, which this scarf beautifully depicts. I love how the horses are so full of life and action.View attachment 4937767View attachment 4937764
Great choice of l'hiver en poste, karenska! Such a classic!

I just sat down with my scarf spreadsheet, and here are the learnings:

I bought a total of 55 scarves this year, excluding my husband's gift. Among them:

  • Age:
    • The scarves range from 1964 (Les Coqs) to 2020.
  • Mode of purchase:
    • 18 (~1/3) were bought from the boutique.
    • The rest (~2/3) were from various other online sources (eBay, TRR)
      • I am surprised at how many came through those channels. But I do enjoy a good vintage scard.
  • Sizes:
    • 35 scarves (~2/3) were 90 cms; that's standard for me. I also bought:
      • 3 x 140s (unexpected -- I thought I would buy more large ones)
      • 1 x giant triangle (unexpected -- I thought I would buy more large ones)
      • 6 x 45s (a lot, considering I only wear them for horseback riding).
      • 3 x 70s (fewer than I thought)
      • The rest are various odds and ends like maxi twillies, one regular twilly, etc.
  • Mousseline status:
    • 5 scarves (10%) were mousselines
      • Disappointing as I hoped for more.
  • Color:
    • 23 (42%) were red / predominantly red (I am not counting red lines or splotches)
    • This means that 3/5th of the scarves were NOT RED.
  • Artists:
    • 6 (11%) scarves were by Alice Shirley
    • Cathy Latham and Robert Dallet are in the close second with 5 and 4 scarves, respectively
  • Special edition status:
    • 10 (18%) were special and limited editions, which is something I have been enjoying this year.

I will start actually posting some of those scarves tomorrow. I think I have never even shared some of them...
:smartass: Such an impressive analysis! :smartass:
I’ve enjoyed seeing how lovely you also look in non-red scarves... what fun discovering new possibilities (though in my head you’re still the red queen):queen:
Can’t wait to see those yet unshared :happydance:

I’ve updated my spreadsheet, but lack in Excel skills and am grappling with trying to keep info a legible size when printed. I’m trying a new vertical front,cont’d-on-back format vs. my original landscape formatted cram-it-on-minuscule to have minimum number of pages (requiring a magnifying glass)!
If you have any tips or suggestions I’d love to hear them...

Today, I prepared myself for the incoming goodies from Mr Bcat and his (in)famous SGV (Scarf Gift Vault) because I knew I would get at least one....and I knew it would be purple (because that is all there is in there!) so I got going and applied appropriate makeup when I got dressed.

Apparently, I was EXCEPTIONALLY good! Doubly so in fact! (And this was unexpected!) So WOW!!! Soooo very thrilled to add not just one, but 2 Excpetionele pieces in to the scarf corral. I have no idea of the official names anymore on these.

A double sided (2 thicknesses) moussie in what I call blurple with black, and lots of pretty deep grey luster glass beads.

And, I think the leather trimmed ones all get put in the exceptional section these days. And I have LOOOONG wanted a leather trimmed scarf. This leather trimmed maxi twilly was from a few years back, but the leather is sooooo soft. I forget if it is Eperons d'Or or Grande Manege in the jacquard pattern. A little more indigo-ink blue than blurple and black.

I would love to do mine in a relational database format. I was a fan of MS Access. Did not require Visual Basic to build GUI :smartass: My boss chortled when I asked if I could learn programming - you know, for career development  DS1 & 2 will also chortle: they talk SQL and Java.
