My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

Merry Christmas and many blessings to all of my dear SOTD friends!
This Christmas has been like no other in recent memory as my family celebrations were much reduced, and even our Midnight Mass was televised. With so many events canceled like Christmas parties and get togethers, concerts, Christmas lights celebrations, even church events, my holiday scarf wearing was greatly edited.
But, even so, I still managed to wear a few such as red Noël. Here one from the archives

Nice scarf, and I love the pearls

Oh, such remarkable silks! I adore my Carre Kantha moussie and would lobe to add a shawl and a 90 in the design. Your shawl is magnificent! And, I also missed out on Into the Canadian Wild. I was relatively new to collecting Hermes scarves when it was issued and I found it too busy with animals for my taste and passed on it... Then, as time went by, I so wanted one when it was already too late. Your CW was my preferred one until I was finally able to find one that I happy with... This is such a wonderful CW and I love the knot

I missed out on that, too. I was collecting at the time, but never cared for the design. Of course, now I really want one...

I had that happen with Acte III. I loved the red cw in the stock photos. I loved it even more when @papertiger modshot hers. I went to H with high expectations of saying "Take my money, take it, take it!" ... and somehow it just didn't look the same IRL for me. I still bought 3 other cws of that design, but I've always felt like I missed out on the red. Doesn't help that it is still available on the local h.com and I get dissociative amnesia each time I see it - my finger moves to click "Add to Cart"

Are you talking the red 90 or the GCSM? The 90 didn’t work out for me at all. The GSCM is soooo nice...

I suppose I could call these the joint winners of the Last Hurrah Prize  for a year when retail therapy became more than just a buzz word.

Last scarf mail of 2020: I opened the package a scant 20 mins ago. It's a special ed of Perspective - bought for curiosity value. It was issued for The International Federation for Human Rights and incorporates Jane Birkin's signature in the design.

And my last boutique purchase of 2020: Mega Chariot, picked up yesterday. I think it appealed to me because it hearks back to a much simpler age when I could fangirl Optimus Prime  (now I obsess over Bruce Wayne's mental stability :giggle: ).

Nice last-minute additions — I have been contemplating that Perspectives as well
Favorite 70 of 2020 is J’aime mom carre. I had been hoping to get one for a couple of years, then in January I found this one.
2020 definitely saw me reaching for the 70s often while at home.
this CW has turned out to be more versatile than I expected. I often paired it with a burgundy cardigan.
iView attachment 4940130View attachment 4940139View attachment 4940138

and my favorite 90 was another past season find. I had been wishing for this CW forever and felt lucky to get this one in excellent new condition, because i can never have too many BLUE scarves, LOL!

Beautiful scarves — you are so thoughtful about them!

Well, my award for Best New Format in a Starring Role goes to The Mousseline...
After drooling over pictures of moussies here on TPF for a long while, I finally waded in and added the first to my collection, and I am thrilled with the format. Moussies work very well in a tropical climate and they are truly sublime. This year, I found five beauties and I know they won’t be the last...
So, once again, here is my very first mousseline and the one that remains my favorite and worthy of the Best Moussie award: Offrandes d’un Jour

And, here is my last moussie purchase of the year and winner of Best Moussie in a Supporting Role: Under the Waves in the black CW

And, I also was lucky to find a long-time moussie Grail: Rayures Mexicaines in this less commonly seen CW. @Joannadyne let me try hers on when she visited and I was convinced I had to have it, and she helped me locate this one... It arrived in time for my birthday

All of these are so beautiful, I have been staring at them for over 10 minutes now...

Are you talking the red 90 or the GCSM? The 90 didn’t work out for me at all. The GSCM is soooo nice...
It was the 90cm red cw of Acte III. To my eyes, it appeared to be a rich red in the photos, and I was expecting an intense colour. Possibly I set my expectations too high and so reality did not match imagination.

I encountered a sweet petite lady when I bought my Mega Chariot yesterday. She was definitely more slender and slightly shorter than me, and she was looking at 140 CSGMs which were her preferred format. She seemed quite baffled when I told her that I preferred 100cm and that there was just too much cloth for me to handle in 140s.

Now the question is what will 2021 bring us silk lovers? My tansu is so full I must edit before buying anything else. Reflecting on this past year I sought out vintage and also Landed some very Special Edition silks too, and I enjoyed contributing to some worthy causes. So here are my “nominees” as they are all winners in my world

I don't quite know where to begin this week. I can't say my habits have changed all that much. I think I did tone it down just a little this year in purchasing, but still....not enough of the letting go for me yet.

I'll start with my up and coming favorite new format for me. It is getting dangerously close to overtaking mousselines in terms of the "favorite format" factor. So this is me: :woot: ... and my wallet: :crybaby:

This year a favorite purchase and favorite design are combined in to one "Best All Around Purchase" with Cosmographia CSGM:

And since I did go to a boutique earlier in the year, I'm giving favorite in person boutique purchase to Brides de Gala en Quadri:

Oooo, I don't remember this red quadri - so sweet!!

I need to catch up on all the wonderful posts over the last few days. (I have seen some lovely pics from so many fly by!)

Here is a quiet but beautiful moussie I picked up this year. Inspired by @Sammy Royal . Ceintures et Liens.

I would say she is in the running for best supporting actress for an understated, sublime performance.View attachment 4939696
Wow - this is fabulous! Wonderful with this sweater and I can imagine all the other colors it will harmonize with. Congrats!

No refund and no, I didn’t cry to them . I was having a bad day, anyway, and seeing this rumpled beauty just made me see red so I started to tear up :crybaby:. Because I really hate to see these beauties treated in such a manner, and I dislike having to iron a silk unless I absolutely have to. Sending back another treasure- Les Mustangs 70 in red/cranberry which I used a $50 credit on. I adore this design and it was listed as excellent - NOT:mad:. Well used, run and pulls, plus - you guessed it! - wrinkled. Staying away from this company for now and I told them that. So I will lose out on my credit.
Argh! What a story. I hate to see that credit go to waste - can't you find a little bracelet or something?

Everyone loves a Year End Wrap Up, even in a year such as this... and oh - whatta year! I’m always curious to see what others are thinking, how they’re tallying up their votes, what makes the cut, the confessions (mea culpa dear wallet), and seeing what *really* gave us joy.
I was a bizzy bizzy bizzy cookie this year - though not as bad as last year - and managed to bring in 33 scarves. I sold or gave away a total of 21, for a net gain of 12 scarves... that’s how I’m looking at it anyway!
But how to start deciding who wins? :panic:
< throwing a dart >
I’ll start with the moussies - 6 new came in...

What a fun week! As this is my first year collecting H scarves, I just wanted to thank you ladies for a fun distraction from 2020! I have loved spending time on this forum and appreciate all of you!
I collected a total of 23 scarves this year. I anticipate my next years will be much less, and I’ll become even more discerning. I’m a minimalist at heart. There is only one scarf that was a slight miss for me, and I decided to keep her after listing her for sale. So - I’m considering my purchases a total win for the year!

My categories:

1. Best format: the winner goes to 90 cm double face silks. If you had asked me six months ago, I would have said wash scarves, but after purchasing two double-sided silks, I’m a firm convert. Below is my Formule Chic.

2. Best Color Family: It’s the botanica from AW20, hands down. I have three scarves from this color family, and below is my La Legende du Cheval a Plumes. I can’t get enough of these colors!

3. Best Design: Almost all of my scarves, including the three in these photos, are borderless, with all four corners different. Some of the designs I love are Cosmographia, Acte III, Pivoines, and Animapolis. These are the designs that I prefer, as they maximize value and are the most aesthetically pleasing for me personally. I love feeling like I’m wearing a piece of art that could be hanging on my wall. Honing in on this design style early has allowed me to be very discerning, which is for the best for my wallet.

4. And the Scarfie goes to: Cosmographia Universalis Special Edition 90 cm, for the brighter future of Hong Kong. I love this scarf so much, it’s my favorite design and these colors are my catnip. The fact that it’s special edition makes it all the more precious to me!

Looking forward to 2021!
I love reading everyone's analysis. That botanica family slayed me as well!

Congrats, moma, it is really a beautiful colourway!
Thanks so much!
Very behind on replying/posting :girlsigh:. You look so lovely here, Moma! I love your Noel - such an elegant cw. And your sparkles do not look like lint:lol:.
haha, OK thanks!
Oh yay! Such a perfect arrival for this week! It is gorgeous... Congrats!
Thank you. It took a very long time to arrive, but at least still within the holiday window!

Thanks so much, Anna.

Hope I didn't miss thanking anyone for your lovely comments on my holiday scarves!

Thank you, Fifi. My scarf collection is a direct result of the pandemic, and having a pile of money from cancelled activities, and lots of time to search for scarves. I am a collector by nature, but I try to actually wear my scarves. Selecting a scarf and an outfit to share with all of you daily has brought me great joy.

To date, there are 90 90 cm silks, 2 CSGM, 7 moussies, 5 70s, 2 bandanas, 3 45s, and 1 100 from the men's collection. 31 were purchased new from Hermes, with 12 from the S/S 2020 (including 4 Les Artisans!), 9 from A/W 2020, and the remainder from earlier years. 22 scarves were purchased used from eBay, 24 used from TRR, and the remainder from various other vendors. I have paid over current scarf list price for just three scarves, Jaguar Quetzal, C'est la Fete, and Noel au 24 Faubourg, and the total overage was less than $500.

I haven't sold any yet, because I need to wear them for a while to see which ones I tend to favor. At this point I seem to have enough scarves to cover the various scarf wearing themes, although some of them will require a bit of creativity. (I know I can always choose to wear what I like.) I like the idea that these scarves tend to hold their value, unlike the pearls and other jewelry that I collected in prior years.

2020 has been a most unusual year, and I was generous to myself as far as scarves went. I fully expect to exhibit more restraint during 2021.
What a year! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed seeing the numerous scarf mail arrivals you’ve shared, hearing how they’re meaningful to you and seeing your happy smile modeling them.
Looking forward to seeing those yet unshared/unworn... plus, (dare I say) not yet puchased. :graucho:
