Great post. This has been a fabulous week for learning!![]()
It was @AnnaE's DH who made the jungle chicken remark, and I contributed pics of the flock which roams near my office. I recently found jungle chooks in the children's zoo in Taipei. There was a big signboard discussing the various types. DH was wondering why I found it so hilarious.
I love the little nuggets of historical and cultural info in many of the scarves. It has led me to delve into subjects which I might otherwise not have encountered. Some examples which helped broaden my horizons:
H en Bias, the Gates edition. Large-scale installation art isn't very much on my radar. While I am still non-committal about the artistic merit in swathing Central Park in saffron cloth, I must admit that reading about the event was interesting and the visual effect, stunning.

When I was a teenager, I loved researching old tomes. The illuminated illustrations in The Book of Hours was a favourite of mine, but it was @Living.la.vida.fifi who made the connection between it and Cavalcade de Mai. I had a pleasant time reacquainting myself with the pictures.

Cent Plis de Miao got me reading up on the traditional clothes worn by the minority tribes in China. I was previously dazzled by the ornate Miao silver jewellery, and am now equally impressed by the hundreds of pleats in their skirts.

And while I knew in general about the tomb statues found in the mausoleums of ancient Chinese royals and nobles, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Galop Volant is based on actual pieces of sculpture.

My next lesson: I hope to learn more about the Kwakiutl culture depicted in Tsitsika. It is a beautiful scarf and the culture is alien to me. Occasionally, my colleagues do look closer at what I'm wearing, so it would be nice to actually be able to tell them more about the design.

I was really hoping for a version in colour, but according to our resident expert @marietouchet, it was only issued in finesseGreat post. This has been a fabulous week for learning!
Thanks for reminding me about The Gates in Central Park - that was so beautiful.
Does Cavalcade de Mai only exist in finesse? That would be amazing in color.
Love the scarf and the background information! Thank you. Mine is the dark blue and striking green!
What a charming colorway. Wonderful with your skin tone and your pink jacket!
This is the prefect cw of this scarf for you, CanuckBagLover.
I adore this color way of this Canuck!
My kids are very fond of quoting "There can only be one!"Hello from Eilan Donan castle from me and my PdS! Those of us who were around during the 80s may recognise the castle from the Highlander movie.
Sorry, I don’t know how to post photos!Thank you all! Would love to see yours Winter4.
This has been such a wonderful week for scarves, stories and learning.

I'm going to sneak one more under the wire. L'Arbre du Vent which has Huichol beadwork. The rose in the picture is an example of their beadwork used as jewelry. The pictures on the scarf though are based more on the decorated bowls which they make, pressing the tiny beads into a layer of wax and resin.

Will be a fun week too. Thank you I have two contributions so far Kachinas and AnimapolisGuten Morgen scarfies!
It’s Sunday morning where I am and so time to start a new theme week! Thank you to all who posted and increased our knowledge base this past week with so much wonderful information and fabulous scarf eye candy!
October is a hoppin' time of year for harvest celebrations in much of the Northern Hemisphere. There are dozens of Harvest Festivals, pumpkin festivals, and beer festivals (with all that harvested grain, of course…) happening at this time of year in America and dozens more of the most famous October festival Oktoberfest, which originated in Munich as a wedding celebration. This week we can celebrate food as well with our scarves (easier on the waistline….but feel free to have a beer too…)
13 Oct 2019 -FEAST YOUR EYES- Social gatherings and food & drink on scarves; match your scarf to the food or drink you’re enjoying.
With this week being about food, drink, and people celebrating on your scarves (or matching your scarf to the food you are eating) and thanks to @Cookiefiend and her marvelous Kachina research, I’m going to serve up some more Kachina love. It's a perfect scarf for this week and makes a nice segue from last week's theme since it contains both food and social gathering (plus I looked up some more of the Kachinas on it.)
I'm invoking Owl Kachina (wisdom and intelligence) with Fiona’s assistance to help me out here today:

The kachinas are allies to the Pueblo Peoples rather than deities and are an important part of Pueblo Festivities and gatherings. So all the dancing Kachinas fit with the social gathering part of our theme this week. I also love the southwest symbolisms shown on it with food references, like Squash kachina (holding the squash blossoms) and the corn, the gourds, and the sunflowers (with their edible seeds) which are widely used in autumn and harvest bouquets here in the south.

For all around food fun, Animapolis gets a big high 5for the various food references like King Kong drinking coffee and the cute penguins getting their drive by ice creams, and, not to put too fine a point on it but the entire scarf is Godzilla’s lunchbox. (There are more food references...but I'll let someone else hunt for those...)
