I so agree with you!+100 - the modeling shots in the Scarf of the Day thread have really opened my eyes to scarves I passed over on H.com.

EXACTLY what @Foxy trini said. Especially about the price being lower buying directly from the website vs. ebay. That was good advice posted on the Authentication thread several years ago by @marietouchet that I have followed. A reseller I use in my city who also sells on ebay advises that mark up for ebay is 12%. When I buy a scarf from her direct (or the the website) the discount is usually that amount at least. As well, I follow Fox trini's advice to google search to find a fair price when I'm making an offer (I don't usually bid as I have had no success).Hi !! I was super hesitant to go the preloved route also, but I fell for so many previous season designs that the only way to procure then was through resale.
I agree with the two sites above and have bought from both. Matter of fact Jan is an authentication contributor in that thread. I recently acquired a bee jacquard jungle love from her site that is on its way to me. She has a sale going on now, and had a few jungle loves. I’ve also bought from https://exquisiteartichoke.com/ and from https://madisonavenuecouture.com/collections/hermes-scarves
If you shop on eBay they both have eBay postings But you’ll save some money buying directly from their websites. Also utilize the authentication thread when unsure. I’ve had great luck posting Poshmark and eBay finds and getting help from the contributors there. I also search my scarves in google Shopping to understand what a fair price is for a particular design if it’s a bidding situation. Hope this helps !
If the scarf is still on the H web site, get it from there, you will get the box and ribbon for sure, maybe a booklet, receipt for a real HS, you also get peace of mind, scarf will be perfectly folded - no storage foldsEXACTLY what @Foxy trini said. I have two S stamped scarves out of my collection and I can barely find the stamps they are so faint. And look out for any S stamp on the label or scarf. It means the scarf was bought at a steep discount at an H sale. Some people are very bothered by the S stamp, so it's your choice if you are okay with it. The only thing that bothers me about it is that sometimes the ink of the "S" has visibly stained onto the scarf.
The US website has free shipping. If you buy from a boutique, which I did twice by phone and email, they have a $25 shipping fee. I paid it for the first transaction, feeling very miffed, but did not speak up. I should have. When I bought the second scarf by email, having established a relationship with a wonderful SA, I politely asked for free shipping because the website had it. She waived the $25 s&h.Hi Marietouchet!
here in the U.S., they absolutely have started charging sales tax even if no store in your state. Ask me how I know.
They’re also still including the laminated tags. It’s nice. I’m a bit of a dweeb and keep them because reasons.
I agree with you. If it’s still available through H I buy it through them.
This is so true on ebay for even current season stock. A current season item will appear drastically marked up and the website will have it in several colorways. There are a few sellers that buy and immediately advertise with markup. It’s an ugly practice, imho.If the scarf is still on the H web site, get it from there, you will get the box and ribbon for sure, maybe a booklet, receipt for a real HS, you also get peace of mind, scarf will be perfectly folded - no storage folds
H also then has a record of your buy - it raises you in their esteem - they like frequent buyers
They used not to charge sales tax - if there is no H boutique in your state - but I think that is no more
The laminated tag used to be included ... maybe no more , or depends on venue
Sometimes they have free postage not always
Scarves can be higher or lower on resale sites - lower for unpopular ones that the seller wants to unload , higher for some uber popular grail that the reseller knows is HOT
HINT: if you are looking to pay A LOT more than $400 retail for a scarf that is less than 3 years old, check the H site
SERIOUSLY, I have seen people looking at $800 90cms that were still on the H site at retail around $400
Honestly, if you chat up a design here , where the resellers all come to visit, yes, the mysteriously skyrockets at resellersThis is so true on ebay for even current season stock. Great advice, Marietouchet! Thank you.Honestly, if you chat up a design here , where the resellers all come to visit, yes, the mysteriously skyrockets at resellers
And authentication services usually don’t include advice on price. If you point out here that seller XYZ is asking a fortune - that can kill the sale, irritate the reseller/consignor, who is probably reading the post here
HINT if you are going after something, be mum here until you get it
Yes it is Ugly. But they know it. it’s a hobby for them to buy them and wait to sell them to that ONE person who HAS to have that scarf for whatever price. One seller who has well over 100k in scarf inventory has every new w tag item marked up and many new items from current season marked up. And the minute it sells out online the price goes from 465/565 to 605/650 and higher As an example. I watch their practice like I would a reality tv show lol. Let me get my popcorn and see what they do today. oohh yes I see that mountain zebra went up from $565 to $605 today. And that samourais went up yet again etc lol. This is so true on ebay for even current season stock.
