The first scarf I fell in love with was the anthracite CW of Mythiques Phoenix. I had no idea of season, colourway, or even price. DH casually said to go find it if I liked it so much. I'm certain he did not expect it to open a floodgate

By "trusted reseller", we mean they know their stuff and you are not likely to buy a fake.

Some things I learnt along the way as I tumbled down the orange slope:
Printing techniques change over time, so if you are looking at vintage designs, don't suspect "fake" the moment you see less than perfection.
Don't be shy to authenticate, and don't request authentication at the last minute.
Scrutinize all photos to avoid unpleasant surprises like a hole :crybaby:
Check if the CW you like really exists (monitors can lie)
Double check seller feedback and be aware that some sellers describe everything as "limited edition"

In the meantime, enjoy yourself. If you click on the orange tag labelled Scarves in the thread list, you'll be rewarded with all the relevant threads. I'd recommend looking at the seasonal scarf threads for last season and this season to see what might be available.

And come join us on Scarf of the Day!

I have no good answer, I'm afraid. I once bought a pareo (cotton scarf) which the seller photographed under warm yellow light. What I received was 100% not what I'd expected. If I'd known then to search for colourways and to authenticate, I wouldn't have ended up with a scarf shock. That is why we appreciate the mod shots in the seasonal scarf threads from scarf sisters who have actually bought and are wearing the scarves.

Omg that sounds like a nightmare i am so sorry!
I chalk it up to newbie mistake and a precious learning experience. Here's the comparison: on the left, the pareo in its true colours of teal, yellow, orange and etoupe; on the right, the seller's pic taken under lighting which turned the teal and etoupe into grey.

+100 - the modeling shots in the Scarf of the Day thread have really opened my eyes to scarves I passed over on H.com.

Welcome to the obsession!

Lots of good advice here. My 2c:

If you love a particular design, go for that one. Don’t get something else because it is more easily available (many of us have made that mistake... you will always want the original object of desire and will end up spending more money in the end).

That said, you fell in love with a design that is more expensive on the retail marker because it is very desirable. This design is also frequently faked because it was so popular. Basically, you have great taste :)

I would be very, very surprised if you manage to find it in stores (unless it was literally lost in a drawer somewhere and just found. That does happen but not as often as all of us would like). Go the reseller route. I would prepare to pay above retail (how much above is up to you) and to get it authenticated (as mentioned above, we only authenticate open listings). Many collectors buy pre-owned all the time (only way to get scarves that are not in season).

And look out for any S stamp on the label or scarf. It means the scarf was bought at a steep discount at an H sale. Some people are very bothered by the S stamp, so it's your choice if you are okay with it. The only thing that bothers me about it is that sometimes the ink of the "S" has visibly stained onto the scarf.

I wouldn’t worry about not having an SA-just contact your local store and see if they can help you source one of the scarves! That’s how my scarf obsession started....I saw this scarf I really wanted while travelling but it was no longer available on my country’s online store and I live 3 hours away from the nearest local store. So the online staff suggested I call the closest H store and one of the lovely SAs was able to source it for me! It was also a previous season scarf. I warn you though....you may not just end up with one scarf it’s a very slippery slope
Its a very slppery slope, indead! I bought my first- and only, haha, in 2017, and now I have five...:-D
