I'm so sorry to hear that.
I would also complain to the Landlord. I would think he's responsible for the things that happen in his property. Maybe he can ask the other tenants.

Yes, absolutely do that! And the police report to see if you can get a refund. This story makes me sick.

That is just sad. You have 3 neighbors and one of them stole your bag......and you have to continue to look at them and wonder which one of them was the lowlife?!!! Wish I was driving the Karma bus....I'd make a pass through your neighborhood!!!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed you are able to find your bag! That's so terrible that it might have been one of the people in your building! I'm not sure about doing a chargeback on your credit card though, wouldn't that take the money from the eBay seller and this wasn't really their fault? Are you sure you can't get the insurance? What is the recourse here when a package is stolen but shows delivered? Would renters or homeowners insurance be applicable?

Do you think it was a neighbor? Could it have been a thief? Or a visitor or service provider?

Maybe a neighbor brought it in to keep it from being stolen. If there are only a few neighbors, I'd be knocking on doors and leaving notes asking if they picked up the package or had seen any suspicious activity around the building. I would not suspect a neighbor of stealing it until you have talked to them and have other reason to be suspicious. It could have been a thief stalking your neighborhood for packages and potentially tax documents(?) - IDK. It would be very unwise for someone who lives there to steal it if there are only a few people that live there.

BTW, I use a UPS store to receive my packages since I have a mailbox there. I think they said it would cost about $5 per package to send it there if I didn't have a mailbox. Anyway, you may want to find a trusted alternative location to receive packages to prevent theft in the future. It helps if they know you on sight.

GL!

I am still hoping your bag turns up somehow. My mother and my aunt had a recent issue with the postal service. My aunt sent a gift package to my mother, and it just disappeared. The tracking showed it scanned at the post office where my aunt mailed it, but that was it. Both my aunt and my mother contacted the postal service, and nobody could figure out what happened. Out of nowhere, it showed up on my mother's doorstep after being missing for over a month. You just never know.

Make a police report. Put up flyers all around with a big picture of the bag. If they see it and worry and know they can't carry it in the area without people knowing it is yours, they might return it. And, if you put on the note that someone is stealing packages, the person who makes a big deal of "who would do that" and "I just can't believe that would happen" and fawns too much is the person who did it. Go door to door to ask for it, put some pressure on whoever has it. The lawyer in me is taking over....now I'm angry for you and ready to investigate!

I agree with ClassicShopper about posting pics of the bag. The more people that see the stolen bag, the harder it will be for the thief. Make sure the pics are big enough to get attention and make sure you post them EVERYwhere. You can make your neighbors aware but if it was stolen by a neighbor and then given as a gift to...maybe an unknowing...friend then the pics would help let the neighbors' friends know as well.

i should add that the ebay seller has been unbelievably nice to me this whole time. She feels awful, even offered a partial refund, and thinks I should file for the insurance (though the post man said I couldn't because it shows delivered)
