Rose gold hardware hermes bag

So an Instagramer posted today (hautecohonnet) that rose gold tarnishes and that Hermes is aware of this problem and she had two bags which both tarnished quickly and could not be fixed by Hermes other than to replace the hardware. She said the artisan said it’s because of the copper mixture. Is this something anyone else has experienced? I’m curious if her experience is the norm or one off occurrence.

I have had a Constance wallet for several years....let me go check it right now....

I don't seem to have experienced this with any bags or bracelets and I have stored them for 5 years in humid/ cold to hot/ dry as well as hot/ humid countries. This includes RG bracelets from first release a few years back ( Barenia, Craie and Amethyst Croc CDCs), belt buckles, my hair clip and more current bags Birkin 25 and Constance SO. If I hear anything from my SA, I will update.

I have 2 Constance 24 with RGHW since first release... Trench Verso and Noir ... using pretty regularly in DC and on vacations. Hardwares on both are perfect. No discoloration and no tarnishing on face plate or edges of any hardware pieces. :flowers:

Also have H belt buckle in RGHW from early release and is perfect.... PLUSSSS I have 2 fine jewelry pieces (rings) I wear DAILY.... perfect. Gosh, hope it stays that way.

Maybe a bad batch was released????

I agree with you. Actually I am very sure the fine jewellery Rose Gold alloy is different in composition from the non-precious type used for H bags and accessories and I definitely would not worry about our pieces.

Ah, forgot I have a CDC belt buckle too, from probably the first season it was offered. No issues.

I do not own any bags with rose gold hardware at the moment as I had turned down a B25 GT with RGHW last year. To provide some feedback on my own personal observations with both rose gold fine jewelry vs accessories... I love H rose gold fine jewelry and none of them have tarnished at all. However, rose gold accessories is a different story all together. I have noticed that my rose gold accessories i.e. bracelets, belt etc tend to tarnish easily and it cannot be removed with the jewelry cleaning cloth. This is something I have mentioned to my local SA before. The gold hardware accessories tend to wear a lot better over time compared to the rose gold counterparts. I agree with periogirl28, the content of the rose gold is very different for their fine jewelry vs accessories. So it does make me nervous if the RGHW for bags are the same as the ones used for their accessories.

Interesting! I would assume the hardware quality is the same since I think all hardware is made in house in the same facility/area. I think they would keep the same method to maintain consistency. Is the tarnish really bad and noticeable? I'm truly fascinated by it not coming off with a polishing cloth. All my hermes hardware tarnishes but looks brand new once it is polished. My rose gold fine jewelry is flawless too.

That being said, my regular yellow gold hardware tarnishes much quicker than my phw items. But also that is a natural characteristic of gold plating. But, rose gold hardware plating should be no different i'm assuming.

Thank you all for the replies. I get the sense that some members have experienced tarnish on rose gold hardware and some have not. I’m concerned about the hardware on bags specifically, not fine jewellery. I guess I will wait to see my own experience once I have used the Constance for a while

Would you be able to take pics of the tarnish? Tia

I had one hinged rose gold enameled bracelet that tarnished terribly right away. I myself was able to buff out the tarnish with jewelry cleaner and one of those non-scratching blue scouring pads. Sadly, I lost the bracelet when it fell off my wrist. I also have two clic H rose gold bracelets which have no tarnish issues and I've had them ever since the rose gold H's became an option.

All of my fine jewelry from Hermès is rose gold and I've never had any problem with any piece. I wear them frequently, if not daily, without incident.
