RIP HM The Queen - Elizabeth II 1926-2022

One of the things I admired most about the late Queen was her understanding of the word "service" when speaking of the BRF (something that her Idiot Number 2 Grandson has never understood). reading about and watching videos of her service in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), where she "learned car mechanics and truck driving" during WWII was especially fascinating and gave me even more respect and insight into the character of that remarkable lady. For anyone not familiar with that part of her life while she was officially the Heir to the British throne, (hope this isn't behind a paywall, if it is, try copying and Pasting the article title into Google Search) here's some background:

"The Queen trained as a mechanic while a teenager during World War II. These photos show how she served her country."

And apparently she never forgot her skills. Since this is the perfect opportunity to get a mention of one of my Top 3 all-time favorite rock groups into a thread about Her Late Majesty, here's one of my favorite photos of her that I often use as my computer wallpaper and that always makes me smile, showing her paying a visit to former Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason's vintage racing team's garage. She still knows how to handle a dipstick AND manage a handbag at the same time! I wonder if Nick offered her a job on his pit crew?

Hope I haven't posted this before, but I firmly believe that you can never get enough of the late Queen. OR Pink Floyd. :girlsigh:

ETA - I think the Ferrari in the photo is worthy of a Queen's touch.

@elvisfan4life, aren't those great photos of HRMTQ before she became HRM? Thanks for posting them!

Here's something else you'll appreciate,if you haven't already found it. Click on the second link in my post and scroll past the part about Nick Mason's cars and a bit into the "23 Bizarre Vehicles That Celebrities Actually Owned" section and look for the Messerschmitt 200.

Be sure to click on the " plenty of rare cars " link in that section too.

Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught and Strathearn 1850-1942 was the 7th child of Queen Victoria

He entered the military at 16 and had a distinguished career throughout the Empire for over 40 years - he met President Ulysses S Grant in 1870!!

He lived at Clarence House in London and his country residence was Bagshot Park in Surrey
