Tom Bower: QE represented everything that was good about the UK! :girlsigh:

Queen Elizabeth | Tom Bower discusses late monarch's legacy and the future of the Royal Family

There are some good points raised by Tom Bower although it must be remembered that it's unrealistic and unfair to expect anyone to take Queen Elizabeth's II's place, as the Monarch she was......she reigned for 70 years and most of us grew up with her in our lives, in her position as our Queen. She held, and holds, a unique place in our hearts and our memories which she earned throughout those decades.

KCIII is a separate and different person and character and we must all adapt to this. A recent poll showed 62% in the UK are in favour of the Monarchy; that's a healthy figure and shows that a good majority of people are reasonable and not against Charles because he isn't Elizabeth. Of course, this figure also includes William and Catherine, Anne, Edward and Sophie who are all popular.

Tom Bower touched upon Camilla's health; I agree with him because I've read that she does suffer from some ailments and I should imagine that, in your 70's, a lot of standing and walking around is hard. Being on show, making small talk, photographed, appearance being picked at, travelling, research, briefings etc etc. That is a lot and, I've mentioned it before, being a Royal is not all butterflies and roses, there is a LOT of preparation and planning for each event, no matter how small and I don't think that I, and many others, would cope too well with the constancy and relentlessness of that even though I'm quite a bit younger!

KCIII has been involved in environmental issues for decades, and was scorned for it, long before the current eco-warriors. It's unfair to say that he hasn't been seen to do much in his first year; he's been working on that particular issue for decades and seems to me to be being seen out and about quite a fair amount. He's in his 70's, too, so expectations need to be managed. QEII enjoyed exceptionally good health, thankfully, but not everyone is as fortunate.

You will always be the most admired women EVER in my mind and sorely missed. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Never in my life have I had a reaction stronger than the normal empathic reaction when one hears of someone's misfortune when a celebrity died, but I was a mess with both Philip and The Queen. They were always there, like an extra set of grandparents. And I'm not even British or live in the UK.

Well you are an honoury Brit and thank you

I miss our beloved Queen so much - don’t get me wrong I’m a Camilla fan I lalways have been but to me she is just the Kings wife and always will be ( I was never a Diana fan that was a disastrous mistake for all concerned from the get go)

Yet my Queen was only the equivalent of Princess Beatrice at birth - hard to imagine now after her amazing 70 years on the throne but she never expected to be monarch she was merely Princess Elizabeth of York.

She was less royal at birth than her future husband Phillip - both were descended from Queen Victoria but the Queen was only royal on her fathers side Philip was royal on both sides of his family - from Queen Victoria on his mothers side and from the kings of Greece and Denmark via his fathers side- indeed he is even descended from Peter the great and Catherine the great of Russia on his paternal side !!

The Queen was born at 17 Briton street in Mayfair - at her maternal grandparents home. Her grandmother on her maternal Bowes Lyon side was Cecilia Cavendish Bentinck.

She had 6 godparents - her two grandfathers George V and Claude Bowes Lyon , her grandmother Queen Mary , her great uncle Prince Arthur Duke of Connaught and her aunt on her mothers side Lady Elphstone formerly Mary Bowes Lyon

Her parents then moved to Royal lodge ( where Andrew now lives ) where the princess and her sister Margaret lived until they married. They adored life there with all the privilege of royalty and none of the hardships. I believe she adored Beatrice and Eugenie as she relived her childhood with her beloved Margaret watching Bea and Eug play in the same dolls house all those years later.

She met Philip at the wedding of her uncle the Duke of Kent to Phillips cousin Princess marina of Greece long before they met at Dartmouth naval college! The latter was in 1939 when they were 13 and 19

The Queen became heir to the throne aged 10 and made her first solo public engagement aged 16. She became engaged to Philip aged 20 and they married when she was 21 on Nov 201947 at Westminster Abbey.

The young couple first moved to a rented house -Windlesham Moor in Surrey where they still lived when Charles was born before they moved to Clarence House. Most of Charles childhood memories were no doubt at Clarence House which is why he refuses to move from it now and pass it over to William
