I didn't know that but what a beautiful thing to do give them their best life after what they went through. I don't even want another pet but when I read yet another story about a badly abused or elderly and abandoned pet I want to get them all.
I know
I have great respect for people who rescue elderly animals or those with health issues

she loved her horses and dogs...how is your horse doing?

Thanks for asking, slowly recovering it seems. He didn't eat for a day but was willing to discuss once we started him on the horse version of warm oatmeal in the mornings  He's still weak, though. We brought them over to our garden so they could graze on the lawn in desperate need of a trim. It's not even 10 mins by foot from the barn and he was exhausted by the time we arrived.

sweet! I'm curious about the breed. she is called a pony. I think of ponies as being small, for children to ride. so Emma is a larger pony?

Regarding competitions everything up to 147,5 cm (4'10 I think) height is classified as a pony. Then you have a little wriggle room for the overgrown ones. But also the original pony breeds are not just small horses but often more "rustic" than usual competition horses (just look at Emma's plushy feet and her lucious mane).

ETA: that height limit is for Germany, it might slightly differ for the UK. One of ours is 150 cm and for my 5'5" frame that is plenty of horse really. Will look different for someone tall or heavy.

I think a pony is 14.2 hands high, or below, with a hand measuring 4 inches.

Although I’ve also heard some are always referred to as ponies/horses depending on context, regardless of height. So Falabellas are referred to as horses, even though they’re tiny. Polo ponies are always called ponies regardless of height….someone who rides horses can let me know if I’ve steered wrong!

Fell ponies are usually 13-14 hands tall, so taller than the Shetland or Welsh ponies you might be thinking of that young children ride. Not sure whether Emma is tall for her breed. The Queen could get away with riding a pony because she wasn’t very tall herself. Tall people look silly if their legs hang down too far.
