To make it even more confusing, polo ponies are in fact horses. They are usually thoroughbreds between 15-15.3 hands, tall enough to carry a big rider while still being small enough to move agilely.Although I’ve also heard some are always referred to as ponies/horses depending on context, regardless of height. So Falabellas are referred to as horses, even though they’re tiny. Polo ponies are always called ponies regardless of height….someone who rides horses can let me know if I’ve steered wrong!
