I only have the original, both in cabin as well as check-in size. The cabin one has been checked a couple of times when the plane ran out of space. All handles work perfectly fine. The cabin one is 9 years old I think and the check-in almost 5 years.

And I love your idea (I don’t have kids though yet, so can’t comment if there are any downsides).

Love my Rimowa. I have an old Salsa Air model in a gorgeous deep purple in both the cabin and regular check in size. A little scuffed but given that I've had them at least 10 years they're in pretty good shape. Last year I got one of the larger cabin essentials in a deep blue. I had given my daughter one as a graduation present and when I realized how much more it held but still worked as carry on, couldn't resist.

I love mine!! I keep thinking of buying another but the one I have is still in excellent condition (my first grown up luggage brought over 10 years ago).

It’s light weight because it’s the salsa model and pink pearl color.

I can have it stuffed full and still feel light. I’ve traveled with that as a carryon and a handbag (longchamp L travel tote or the large nightingale worn crossbody, the short strap makes it hug my body same as a Fanny pack does).

I would love another but don’t need it and am trying to keep myself from being a hoarder (because they come out with so many colors/collabs over time, my own complaint is the collabs are the original and after the light I’m never going to use the original due to weight).

But if I see one on sale because I got mine at a discount (last one on the floor, I haggled yes), I may (but just one and as a backup).

I just checked and there has been a price increase. It is very annoying as they are doing the classic LV move of restricting supply/colours/collections just before they implement a price increase. All the trunks have been out of stock and all the bright colours taken off the website. When I called the SA told me that there are no stock in stores. I bet all of a sudden stock will start appearing now there has been an increase.

For anyone interested, Rimowa does make a cover for select sizes of their luggage if you prefer to keep your luggage looking more pristine. I have used mine extensively over the past 5-6 years and the case still looks brand new. I like that it also does not scream Rimowa when covered.
