RIMOWA, Anyone?

We're going on a trip next week and wanted to get DH a salsa in the same size as my Topas IATA 52 since carrying it on has never been an issue. I first ordered the Salsa 22 from Saks, but when it came it was significantly deeper than my Topas. I then ordered a Salsa 22 from Zappos, and made sure the dimensions in the Zappos listing were the same as how they listed my IATA 52 (also bought from them)...it came today and is the same size as my Topas. :) It's confusing that there are different sizes within the same carry on model! All 4 of the Rimowas we've kept have been from Zappos, and I highly recommend ordering from them. Each one came in a sealed Rimowa box (inside the Zappos box), as opposed to ones I've ordered from Saks and Barneys that were just wrapped in packing material. (The Saks one shipped from a store and had probably been out on the floor.) Considering how much they cost I like getting one brand new in the box. :)IMG_1495252445.355391.jpgIMG_1495252456.451775.jpgIMG_1495252464.779071.jpgIMG_1495252473.321714.jpg

I heard that all of the higher end models will have the e-tag in the second quarter of this year. Is that true ? It adds like an additional $150 which isn't bad.

Yes but the E-tag is kind of useless if you fly airlines (like U.S. airlines) that don't use or support it.
Currently, I think only Lufthansa supports it.

Basically it has this function where when you "check in" from your app or the airline's website, and you're checking a bag, you can then "tag" your bag with a luggage tag from your device or website before you get to the airport, and so that they don't have to add the tag to the bag separately. This would require of course that the airline system supports this functionality. Good luck with having any of our U.S. legacy carriers adopting this soon...

the way I see it, the only way for U.S. airlines to adopt this and integrate this into their dinosaur systems is if Samsonite or other mainstream manufacturer uses it, and there is widespread demand.

Currently they sell both versions with and without the etag. I only buy the ones without.

I still want a larger Topas for check-in. I guess I'll have to buy sooner rather than later because for the reason stated by Roku I would only buy the ones without e-tag... I'm not in the US, but choose my tickets based on price and would most likely not get much use of it, apart from refusing to pay more for some tech gadget I consider unnecessary.

Purchased our first Rimowa today and it wasn't even for me. I bought the mini 18" salsa for DS. He is so excited to be going to visit grandmother.

For some reason I don't have permission to view the attachments :confused1:

Anyway, I ordered a Rimowa Topas MW 68 yesterday from a German site. The delivery time is "on demand" though, so I hope they will actually be able to obtain the product. It's the version without electronic tag.

Actually koffer-direkt is offering 15% off until the end of June and if you pay in advance by bank wire you get an additional 5% off. So overall I paid around 583€ instead of 719€. Kofferprofi on the other hand is offering 18% off until I think Tuesday. They might even have the cabin size without eTag and possibly also 5% in addition with pre payment. For the 15% you only need to Google the website's name and "Gutschein", for the 18% it's directly on the site

So strange. I was wondering why they showed up as attachments. Let me try again.

Thanks for the intel on sales also. I wonder if they'll ship to Hawaii.

Thanks for reposting! Your DS looks so sweet and the Salsa mini has the perfect size. Koffer-direkt does ship to the US in general for 50EUR.

I got all my RIMOWAS from koffer direkt. Highly recommand them!

I think I bought my last check-in suitcase (Titan) with them. Went totally smooth and can't wait to receive the Topas this time

I am obsessed with the limbo line having bought 3 of their largest checked luggage. I'm now looking for two cabin bags. What do you recommend and how much is shipping from this retailer to the US? Site is in German which I should understand a little but don't!! Sadly!

Also, got three in black...should I go for the alum or stay with limbo? I didn't like how heavy the alum were in the larger sizes. Still concerned about weight even with the cabin bags.

Thanks!

I have both the Salsa Air and Alum (Topaz) as cabin bags. I prefer the Topaz, but have to be very careful not to get over the weight limit for carry ons... ironically it's more comfortable to push around due to its weight. My Salsa Air got a crack after 5 years which cannot be repaired. Can't happen with the alum. The Salsa Air on the other hand is very light. So you have to consider what's more important to you. Also if you prefer to have no extra bags on board the one with the zipped compartments outside might be practical. Never considered it as I always take an extra bag.
