Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

You might very well be right. I’ve reported a couple of resellers to the anti-counterfeit email but I’ve never seen a reseller in action “in-person”. Since I wasn’t sure, I wasn’t going to stir the pot at the store. I stopped at LV an hour beforehand and they told me that bringing up resellers was taboo and that they couldn’t share anything with me on that. Thanks for sharing your feedback!
lmao I suppose bringing up resellers would only be taboo if you were working in cahoots with them but what do I know...

So I was at a Chanel store today (in a department store) and was invited to look at a buy book. Another customer was reviewing it with her SA. But she was blatantly taking pictures of every page and texting someone. I had to wait half an hour and when I got the book, I noticed ONE specific name on almost every popular seasonal and classic bag….and on a lot of accessories like SLG and costume jewelry. I thought the stores had a buy limit? Does it only pertain to purchases and not how many reserve lists you can be added to for a stores buy? Do people try to get on as many wait lists and just reject/buy as they come in?
The fact that this person was texting and taking pictures of the buy book makes me think this is a reseller but I didn’t have the balls to say anything in the store. She could be a VVIP for all I know :angel:I did notice that this particular boutique was cleaned out…..all of the glass displays were empty! There were probably 6 handbags and a few SLGs in display cases. But that’s it. Nothing else in the back! It’s insane how crazy the rush was to buy before the increase :hrmm:

i won’t share the name of the boutique or location because I like to stay anonymous. But Chanel corporate spies who read TPF: you need to stop these resellers from getting on these lists in the first place. Shouldn’t there be a limit on how many items you can get on reserve for at a single store? Or at least there should be a system that prioritizes customers on the list based on how many items they will purchase from a single store. If they are on reserve for two bags, then the remaining bags should have them at the bottom of the list. Or something! Otherwise they’ll get first dibs on everything that comes in on launch day

lastly - friendly tip. My other SA mentioned that SAs do talk to each other within a boutique and know when a customer reaches out to multiple SAs in the same store. They don’t like it. It obviously shows up when SAs go to put you on a list too. So ladies/ gentlemen- Don’t risk your SA relationship just because you want to hedge your bets on items that are on lottery :heart:

Oh please. They need to get over themselves.

But... what if whichever SA you were assigned to is simply... awful... lol? I live in a state where there is literally one store and it's not even a standalone boutique :crybaby:(Sorry just venting here lol. I've moved on from our local store and buy when I travel now!)

Yeah totally get that and I hope you do find a local SA that is amazing! I love buying Chanel when travelling too! No need to apologize - this is the forum to vent

The example they gave was that this individual reached out to 4 or 5 different SAs in the same store. It wasn’t even just the SA piece….it was the volume of texts that came in. They mentioned they thought about whether to cancel the persons spot on the list because it was just overwhelming. Some customers just aren’t pleasant to deal with and I can empathize with that. I wish we had an SA in this forum who could shed some light on how to interact effectively with them.

Oh my goodness ok that sure is extreme lol! But no what happened to me was the first SA was not that friendly, so I went back to the store some other time and met up with a new SA. And obviously the second SA was still not as helpful, so I've moved on forever now. I now have 2 remote SAs that are very friendly and responsive, and I'm more than happy to travel to see them. Also, just throwing out there that it's so sad that resellers have so much better attitude than some of the SAs out there... I don't like or support resellers, but I also don't want to support SAs that greet me with their ugly nose holes.

These past month or so I’ve been calling SAs and Chanel customer care for items which I understand ofcourse are high in demand. What surprises me is that I will talk to my SA and customer care and not one of the many items on my list are available but the same day I will see resellers posting them on IG and ofcourse asking for premium prices. I’m beginning to think they put themselves on all of these wait list and will get them first before us and obviously when they get it, they sell at higher prices. Now because we want the items so much and don’t want to wait for another increase, we’re ending up buying the items in much higher prices than they already are. I've seen so many hard to find items in the hands of resellers and I see many bag lovers getting them from resellers instead of the stores. I think there is something wrong in this picture. Is it just me thinking this?
Shopping at Chanel is frustrating for the average person. I remember going to a new season release over a year ago and I was the first customer in the door but everything I had on my wish list was completely sold out before the store even opened. You now need to have a relationship with an SA who will work with you to reserve or purchase the bag before it’s even released. It wasn’t like this a few years ago and honestly the purchase experience ends up being hurried text messages from SA’s who want you to decide quickly on bags they know they are getting before it’s allocated to another customer. But this creates bad behaviour because in many cases you need to make snap decisions quickly and at times even before you get a chance to see the item in real life. Then, in many countries you can only get a credit because refunds are not allowed (unless defective) so it also promotes the average consumer to consider re-selling the bag. Let’s face it, if Chanel wanted to get rid of re-sellers they should just produce more of their popular bags so that they are available to all of us. It’s this exclusivity of high demand items that creates this environment. Really, no one would ever buy from a reseller or pay more than retail if they could just as easily get the bag from the store.

Sorry, how much?! I’ve previously had a good experience with this reseller so not knocking the service but this wallet new is £770 at the 2021 price, not the 2017 price. I get that it may be a coveted piece but that’s quite a margin for an item that’s not even new. Yes, people can charge what they want, I suppose, but I can’t understand why someone would pay that much over retail.

I feel like Chanel is trying to maintain a sense of exclusivity. I am under the impression that if you buy a suit or two, it would be easier to land a handbag of your choice (similar to Hermès.) No one would really want to buy something that is available everywhere and anyone. They want average person to consume perfumes, makeup etc, as I heard those items are the real money maker. I am an average customer and I find the situation frustrating at times but find Chanel’s tactic genius, because when the item is more exclusive, I want it even more. However, I do want resellers gone. Perhaps Chanel could stop people from purchasing multiples of the same item? I heard some resellers got banned in Japan because they would buy 5 of the same bag in same color.

The self proclaimed “it” color of the season by a reseller.. I thought the color is nice but not to the point of must have for this season.. perhaps I’m just getting too cynical on everytime a new season comes out.. there are hypes on social media trying to brain washing people buy buy buy immediately

Yikes  While I think green is nice, I’m on this forum enough to know that this color hasn’t been all that popular and the reaction to it has been mixed/lukewarm. Definitely just a reseller trying to influence their audience into purchasing

Even if you select the Chanel items that Fashionphile has listed at Discounted by 30% off and Last Call, it is ridiculous what they are trying to sell a lot of these items for!

For example:
Card Holder on Chain (NOT a WOC) $1795
Small Flap Wallet - $1300
Three different green card holders range between $575 - $645
Iridescent Card Holders - $575
Don't even get me started on their costume jewelry..
