Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

This whole reseller gig has blown up this past year due to stay at home orders/quarantine/pandemic and they know people are more open to purchasing from them with being stuck at home. However, it's become this whole other issue of hoarding all the htf/unicorn items and marking it up to an unreasonable amount. I never minded using a reseller if it's an item that was not released in my country and marked up fairly but with what's going on, the best way to combat resellers behaving this way is to simply not purchase from them. It may be hard not to especially if it's a bag you've been eyeing and desperately want but just know that Chanel always brings styles back/cycles through colors so you'll see it again anyways. If not, you might find another bag that is of interest in the next season. I've been frustrated with all of this as well but I'd rather pay the price increase than the markup from the resellers. It's also just more comforting knowing that my bag came straight from the boutique rather than a middle person handling the bag/taking pictures and videos of it for their insta page.

Best of luck with your search!
Agree! I just wait for the next season Chanel does not need instagram
sales people scamming their customers
and charging extra. Don't buy resellers.

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but for myself personally I get really fixated on specific bags. For example, I don't just want any gray, I want a specific gray, with a specific undertone, hardware, and leather, in pristine condition.

It's not just with gray, I have a whole wishlist of bags from past collections that I missed out on  I just recently found & purchased a gold pixel effect m/l classic flap from 16C and a white pearly flap bag from 15C - both bags were on my wishlist for years and I was so happy when I found someone selling them. Both were in pristine condition and priced under today's retail, so I was happy with that. I don't buy these rare bags on my wishlist to sell or flip for a profit or anything, I keep them and love them.

I know I should be more flexible, and I'm trying to let go of my wishlist of bags from past collections and only buy bags in store from current collections, especially since the preloved market is now so insanely priced...it's just not worth it anymore. You used to be able to actually get a deal with the preloved market (like an excellent condition classic flap for $3,000 on fashionphile - no joke, this is how classic flaps were priced on fashionphile a few years ago) but now you end up paying a super high premium..makes no sense to me.
Sorry did not mean to offend you in any way !
I just wanted to state that there are several greys coming out and dont have to encourage resellers

Chanel imposes a limit but yet a local reseller’s posted ready stock overseas

Translation of her post -
Why do I set a limit when accepting orders? Because these sellers overseas purchase stocks (as per photo). Due to covid, I’m not there in person to snatch stocks.
So if you want any of these latest designs, quickly place your orders

Might be a very contentious opinion here - but I don't mind buying from resellers if the mark up isn't too crazy. Don't throw shade my way! :panic:

I've had a couple of pretty bad/sad experiences at Chanel... The first occasion was an all black classic Chevron sitting on a shelf; when I asked to see it - I was told they couldn't sell it to me & promptly took it off the shelf. The second occasion (years later as the first scarred me!), I wanted to get a square mini; the SA insisted (strongly insisted) that I pick up a Coco Crush ring first - and promised that after I've made the payment I could buy the square mini the next day.

So - I'd really rather go to a reseller and pay a few hundred dollars more than to be forced to pay a few thousand dollars on a ring I don't want; or to be ignored in the store and told they just "couldn't sell it" to me.

I'm really sorry you had these experiences and were treated so poorly. That is horrible.

I am so sorry! That is an unacceptable behavior. I would suggest checking the SA thread to find a good SA. There are some very good ones out there. I also agree about buying a little over retail from personal shoppers. My cut off is no more than what I would pay tax in my state but lately all of these personal shoppers have been charging about 20-40% extra fees which to me is unacceptable and just greedy behavior. I saw caramel Chanel 19 in small size being sold for $7100 which is 40% extra than retail. Also those chevron rose gold bags are being sold at 10K+ and people are willing to pay for it. This to me is just plain ridiculous!

As they say : hypocrisy is defined as saying or feeling one thing and doing another. Just like when you are aspiring minimalist but you also promote premium price consumerism.

We are calling out resellers that pretend to be influencers because we are not doing the same. Flipping houses /“ clearing out your closet” (take note CC) isn’t the same as hoarding unicorns for large earnings.
These kind of habitual sellers are contributing to the overall behavior of flipping for a huge sum of profit that leaves private buyers with less options and supply issues. Thus , this definitely drives the immense system to where we are currently right now: Huge price increases and unicorns twice its retail price.
Yeah so weird…if you have to downsize and “curate” that many bags, you are NOT a minimalist,Lol.

CC and others like her, will have a bunch of new purchases come fall.

Its all just a cycle.

Current hot practice by resellers here in my country :
Mini rect caviar (approximately converted to usd)
- 5440 by resellers
- 4490 retail

And these bags can be ten series back. And used.

All these because mini caviar are no longer made, as far as i’ve learnt.
you would expect to pay a premium for discontinued bags, especially if the demand is high, so this is not THAT bad, at least compared to resellers buying new this-season stock and selling at a premium.

Yeah, just citing whats going on here.
I haven’t looked around on “resellers buying new this-season stock and selling at a premium.” - because it seems like I always miss the boat...always hunting for “old” colours of past seasons (specifically classic flap).

Wow... 20-40% more is a lot! I'd rather just give the item a pass... sit in a corner and sulk for a bit...
And thanks for the tip - will definitely go through the SA thread...

Back when caviar mini rect were 3000-4000 CAD, I thought it was ridiculous to try and line up during the launch to try and compete for these items when you spend that much.. Jokes on me. These go for sooo sooo sooo insane prices. And for a mini.
