Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

Can I just say that I can't imagine my lawyer ever posting on TPF himself? From a logistical standpoint, it is making me laugh to imagine him creating an account, making a post, knowing how to properly quote and reply, and just monitoring it as a whole. He's a bright and internet aged guy so I am more than certain that he could figure it out and probably easily, but it still just seems wild to me.

Wait SA's don't make commission on selling handbags? What is the incentive to sell?
Some bags sell themselves. If resellers are buying bags it would be easier for an SA to sell to a reseller and get commission. To even those out, there are no commissions on certain bags.

That is also when buying a coveted bag from Hermès or the like, they politely ask you if you are interested in something else. So that the SA still earns that commission.

Edit: this is the last time I post before reading everything that is posted

You have seriously got everything mixed up lol. They’re definitely not the same person. If you really are a lawyer, you don’t come across as a very good one. Sorry.
You have somehow dragged this poor woman into some misunderstanding that you created and it’s really bloody weird.

actually the person you’re referencing quoted me first, so I did not initiate contact with her, just her “counsel” that was supposedly up at 1am on a gossip website over something a woman inferred with no names used lol. Yea okay

Lol exactly. On a purse website gossiping past mindnight? I’ve seen PR teams of celebrities on gossip websites enter a convo to try and shut it down, they post 1 or 2 canned messages and that is it Bc they know there’s not much they can do. And they do it during business hours lol. This woman posted about this exchange in her Facebook group to get backup and made a fake account, that’s all

I agree with the poster above who said bags sell themselves. It’s the same reason why LV SAs only get like 1% commission on canvas. Maybe Chanel should give them 1% for classic bags and 5% for seasonal

You are obviously playing dumb, you know very well that just because someone quoted you first doesn't mean that you didn't initially drag the poor woman [ZeLegal] into this mess (albeit without quoting her).

Hello dear, the only person I “dragged” was anyone using baseless scare tactics on strangers on the internet and trying to intimidate ppl out of Sharing their bad experiences. There’s nothing wrong with what she said, Alyssa, if you’re reading, in the future just add “allegedly” to whatever you want to say and you can feel free to name whatever names you want.
All this over a post someone said without naming names? “The lady doth protest too much, methinks!!” Or, in laymen’s terms, “a hit dog will holler.”

So true. I find all of this a bit much. I work for a large company and it would be unimaginable for our legal department and/or our PR group to engage publically on a forum in this manner to address an issue. As a business owner you will come across all sorts of people that will say all sorts of things about you and your organization but you can't take to public forums to match the insanity (fair or not). Set the record straight by making a statement with facts void of emotion and move on. If legal were to get involved it would be done offline. I've heard all sorts of people come to the defense of this business owner and how great she is but in the future I won't remember that but instead will remember the drama created here on tPF. Unfortunate but true. Is all this back and forth going to do more damage than good?

So Jesuis Lou got rid of the 19 she recently bought and traded for a caramel with the same reseller. I honestly think she’s doing ads with them at this point
I think you might be mistaken. She bought the small Oreo tweed 19 and really liked the size over the larger one. So she sold her older large beige 19 and LV boite chapeau and bought a small 19 in caramel.

I agree with others about the banality of expecting an actual lawyer to go to a gossip forum to defend someone. That and the cartoonishly litigious phrases thrown about like “I rest my case!!!” Makes me feel like I’m in an Ace Attorney video game. This was handled rather tacky and people are allowed to vent their concerns. Nobody (Alyssa etc) even names this person. There are things that for edited but were very unprofessional to say, and if the lawyer said to delete previous posts, why would their client keep posting. I have had to use a lawyer before and I damn well kept my mouth shut, I don’t think this reflects well on the business at all.

Anyways, back to more important and on topic discussion. @Rissalicious thank you so very much for sharing your insights! It is really interesting to hear how your experience behind the scenes is like. I am sorry it’s been kind of a stressful work environment (well I am assuming correct me if you feel differently).

Chanel lovers, do you feel like resellers are going to subside as things reopen? I don’t want to have such a USA centric view as the rest of the world is still figuring out a heck of a lot due to the pandemic. But I still haven’t made a purchase of a bag (bought my wedding ring and shoes) during the pandemic in store and it honestly wasn’t that fun. I look forward to going in person soon enough and actually enjoying the experience again though I am worried resellers are going to continue dominating the landscape and buying everything before real customers have a chance.

Fashion x French fries had a funny story saying “I need to buy an Hermes or Chanel everyday to keep up just to resell later. Jk no shade” and had a good chuckle. I just hope every single influencer doesn’t go the way of reseller especially given that Instagram is decreasing in popularity

I am certainly hoping that reselling will subside. The world is starting to open back up, people are going to be busy with going back into the office, back to school, traveling, concerts, etc. I got so obsessed with luxury goods during the lockdowns as a form of escape and to alleviate boredom, and I'm sure many others did too. But I think people are gonna start caring less about luxury instagrammers/youtubers as they start returning to their normal lives, and the hype around these bags will eventually die down.

The allegations made are very serious and should be dealt with as such. If you are in possession of evidence to substantiate your claim of criminal conduct, you should reveal it. Otherwise, you shouldn't try to defame someone's character by insinuation. Obviously, you will only be sued if your allegations are false or baseless. Let's name the person you are accusing!
Did you just make a new account to threaten everyone’s review here ? Lol

if they liked them they wouldn’t be instituting all these new rules to combat resellers, which from what my SAs from both boutiques and department stores have said is the purpose
If luxury companies love resellers : there shouldn’t be limitations and policies. No chips . No banning of shipping to tax free . No 2 year ban from LV.

To all influencers who turned out to be resellers, or whatnot.. don’t come here and read your reviews then come up with intimidation. If you guys just stayed authentic from the start, this should not be an issue

Ugh I really hope reselling is reduced significantly as things are getting back to normal. I love Chanel, but I’m not willing to pay MORE than retail from a nobody online where I can’t even know with 100% confidence that the overpriced item is authentic.

I do, however, still enjoy buying secondhand for items Chanel no longer makes or gently used items from people who are just cleaning their closets and at lower prices. NOT people who buy brand new and turn around and price gauge. There is a big difference. And the latter is sooo unattractive.
