Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

I am certainly hoping that reselling will subside. The world is starting to open back up, people are going to be busy with going back into the office, back to school, traveling, concerts, etc. I got so obsessed with luxury goods during the lockdowns as a form of escape and to alleviate boredom, and I'm sure many others did too. But I think people are gonna start caring less about luxury instagrammers/youtubers as they start returning to their normal lives, and the hype around these bags will eventually die down.
Me too! This was also my experience during the pandemic, I think I added 6 new Chanel bags to my collection. I think demand/reselling will decrease to some extent as shares of budget go back to travel and spending on experiences - especially here in the US where we are mostly reopen and starting to travel again. However I'm sure many who are completely new Chanel consumers since last spring will stick around. I do hope the whole blogger/youtuber/influencer aspect disappears as people get more distracted by what is going on again in their own lives rather than some stranger's.

Anyways, back to more important and on topic discussion. @Rissalicious thank you so very much for sharing your insights! It is really interesting to hear how your experience behind the scenes is like. I am sorry it’s been kind of a stressful work environment (well I am assuming correct me if you feel differently).

happy to share a little of what is like! I hope it helps people understand a few things of what is like from our side of things.

This whole thread was gross before the Zeko etc drama started. From the beginning it was all about dragging people through mud - influencers, resellers etc.

And now people are complaining that it’s gone off topic of insulting and mud skinflint influencers and resellers and instead has turned into mud slinging and insulting Authenticators? Pot, kettle, I hereby introduce you.
Before zelegal.. this thread has been very informative as we stray way from people hoarding caramels , iridescent and unicorns.
It helped a lot especially for calling out influencer wannabes unboxing bags that weren’t theirs, selling 1k -2k over the retail especially the unicorn items. It helped Chanel to come up with policies. And it helped subscribers like us to check authenticity of vloggers who turned out to be resellers like Hello Catwalk , Taty Farr , Sophie and many others Lux wannabees. Now if that information irritates you ... feel free to opt out. Luxury market isn’t a commodity and free market, as well as this thread wouldn’t be meant for you.

and I oop.
Lol, Geez I think this thread made CC stop her resell business…now its closed for the “forseeable” future

I think alot of luxury youtubers end up getting greedy, when it comes to buying and selling.
I applaud this thread for calling out these kind of vultures. Many thanks to you. The past year and recent year have been crazy. You can’t do bag reviews , hype them up and tell everyone it’s not for you and you got an offer.. You can’t make content with bags you will eventually return to FP. You can’t do personal shopping then promote minimalism. The intentions are opposite. I hope reselling Chanel will subside and let the true aficionados to experience luxury

Doesn’t irritate me. I’m just highlighting the hypocrisy ❤️

As they say : hypocrisy is defined as saying or feeling one thing and doing another. Just like when you are aspiring minimalist but you also promote premium price consumerism.

We are calling out resellers that pretend to be influencers because we are not doing the same. Flipping houses /“ clearing out your closet” (take note CC) isn’t the same as hoarding unicorns for large earnings.
These kind of habitual sellers are contributing to the overall behavior of flipping for a huge sum of profit that leaves private buyers with less options and supply issues. Thus , this definitely drives the immense system to where we are currently right now: Huge price increases and unicorns twice its retail price.

So, I've been on the hunt for a 19B gray classic flap and I noticed a month or so ago that Julia Rose Boston had one for sale for nearly $7,000. I passed on it because JRB didn't respond when I asked for more pictures. Also, the bag looked really crooked and had some specific wear and tear issues on the inside flap, and for $7,000 that's absolutely unacceptable to me.

Today I noticed Redeluxe has a 19B gray classic flap for sale for nearly $8,000. I was so excited at first (aside from the astronomical price), but then....I started wondering if it could be the same bag? Redeluxe's bag has THE SAME EXACT wear and tear issues on the inside flap that the one from JRB's listing had.

JRB:

So, that leads me to think that either:
Theory 1: Redeluxe bought it from JRB and are selling it for more on their own platform to make a 1k profit?
Theory 2: Someone bought it from JRB, then sold it to Redeluxe?

Either way, they are most likely going to have no problems at all selling this 2 year old preloved bag that has some very obvious wear and tear for 8k, which is mind-blowing to me. That's nearly 2k above today's retail price.

What i don't understand is Chanel is releasing a lite grey in 21A (caviar) and dark grey in 21B (caviar) so grey is not like a rare color or anything .. why will some one want to buy a preloved grey bag if the next 2 seasons will come out with 2 different variations ??

i unfollowed Redeluxe, their prices have been crazy!

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but for myself personally I get really fixated on specific bags. For example, I don't just want any gray, I want a specific gray, with a specific undertone, hardware, and leather, in pristine condition.

It's not just with gray, I have a whole wishlist of bags from past collections that I missed out on  I just recently found & purchased a gold pixel effect m/l classic flap from 16C and a white pearly flap bag from 15C - both bags were on my wishlist for years and I was so happy when I found someone selling them. Both were in pristine condition and priced under today's retail, so I was happy with that. I don't buy these rare bags on my wishlist to sell or flip for a profit or anything, I keep them and love them.

I know I should be more flexible, and I'm trying to let go of my wishlist of bags from past collections and only buy bags in store from current collections, especially since the preloved market is now so insanely priced...it's just not worth it anymore. You used to be able to actually get a deal with the preloved market (like an excellent condition classic flap for $3,000 on fashionphile - no joke, this is how classic flaps were priced on fashionphile a few years ago) but now you end up paying a super high premium..makes no sense to me.
