Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

If anyone's interested, apparently at least one authorized distributor of Rolex and other watch brands has been caught selling watches on the gray market for inflated prices, similar to what seems to be going on with boutique or department store Chanels. This in turn might be what's leading to waiting lists for watches. Video here:

The YouTuber's thinking is that Rolex will come down hard on this one distributor to make a good show to the customer base, but will ignore other cases of distributors doing the same thing because too many cases of it would be a PR problem. Interesting to think about how much this might overlap with the situation at Chanel.

I feel sad reading this thread because I’ve been saving for a classic medium flap and a mini square but the price keeps going up and I also know when I have saved enough I probably won’t be able to buy from the store and I refuse to buy from a reseller.... also there is NO Chanel store in the country I live in so it’s not like I can wait

I have not seen 21s classic flaps on fashionfile...
What did you see
I’ve seen a couple of the caramel color flaps. I’m unsure if they are 21s because I don’t really follow the seasons, but I know customers are seeking that color. I remember, on FP, the prices were very, very high (and one, I think lambskin, was listed as new). I thought at the time- this is getting ridiculous! The Birkin and Kelly bags are bad enough, and now the Chanel and hard-to-get LV bags are following suit. FP used to be my to-go-to for the Chanel bags I missed out on at the store, but now that they’ve raised prices, and I have to pay sales tax, I just browse.

May i ask where you live?
Have you planned a vacation or a trip to one of the countries or cities, where Chanel does have stores?

Caramel is 21p, not 21s. But I have to say prices on FP are insane!! Don’t think I would ever pay over retail for a used bag, especially on top of price increases. Yesterday, I saw a 15 series medium black caviar bag in GHW for $7500. Why is an old and used up bag more expensive than a new one in store? This is just highway robbery.

I live in New Zealand,, so we have LV, Dior, Prada but no YSL or Chanel ..
I go to Australia quite often but its impossible to buy a classic on a few day visit...... I think they only have like one in the whole country sometimes and it's usually "allocated" :yucky: which I do understand, I have zero purchase history..

Is purchasing from overseas an option for you? I understand some prefer to see the item in person first and then there’s duties.. but I’m just brainstorming with you..

You can try posting in the Chanel shopping sub forum about your options. I would also suggest putting your name down for a classic flap when you visit Australia. Meet with a SA, get their number, and keep texting them. Is there something else you are looking to purchase like a SLG? Costume jewelry? I am not saying to buy something you don't want to but buying something small will help you have a purchase history and then you can order over phone or online once the classic bag arrives. You may be able to get a Classic flap in Jumbo/maxi size easier as these are not very popular but small/medium size may have a long wait list but at least you will be in the list! Just a few suggestions.

I think people really need to stop buying bags from FB group and IG at premium prices. Eventually those sellers will have to reduce their prices or return back to the store if no one buy it. It is ridiculous to see all these resellers taking all the bags and selling 1K or more in profit. As long as people are willing to buy then they will not stop. Don't even get me started on vintage bags. I've seen vintage bags going to double, triple or more and some are even same as retail or more than retail. Why do people even buy it at the premium prices? To me buying vintage bags was to save money. Now sellers are just taking advantage of buyers that don't do their research or might not know much. In order for all these nonsense to stop, people need to wakeup and stop buying at premium prices. Chanel will always come out with nice bags and different colors. If you don't get it this time then there will also be the next. Also there is no such thing as unicorn. The word unicorn is just an excuse for them to sell at a premium prices and laugh behind buyers back for being stupid and falling for their tactic.
