Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

I will just tell my short experiences with Chanel since I just started with the house recently. The whole experiences had been chaotic and not luxurious at all. I have to admit that I had my strong initial bias toward Chanel and thought their quality is really bad for its price (it seems like there’s still some truth to that).

I was able to secure a black mini square from my friend due to her being a long term client. Since that bag, I have been looking at other bags offered by Chanel. I got a Gabrielle bag because I genuinely like it. I’ve been wanting to get a mini beige iridescent in the upcoming season. I talk to like numerous SA practically beginning for a bag. This experience is starkly contrast my experience with Hermès.

I’ve been shopping with Hermès for a while and I got most of what I need (birkins, Kelly, SO....). I go to the Hermès store, I look and try on stuff and then purchase. For Chanel, I spend more time texting and begging for an item that I don’t get to see. I don’t mind waiting for building a relationship for something I like but I refuse to pay a premium or have to beg for a bag that I can live without.

This 10000000%!!

Bought from TimelessLikeAudrey. If your currency is winning she made sure you comply to HER exchange rates. Even though I had to bear the conversion fee to my bank she will not give in. Let’s say it would have been around 5400aud but she got 6000aud. It was my first & only experience with a reseller. Now I’ll be patient and buy from boutique... if it’s meant to be it will be.

There‘s another thing I noticed lately on luxury social media, especially on youtube.
The content creators tend to buy a bag, do an unboxing followed by a review/what fits/modelling videos only to follow up with something like „not what I imagined, I‘m probably going to return it“. Which is their right of course, but those are the same people that would NEVER buy a return. There‘s nothing crazy wrong with it but I have noticed it more and more lately and sometimes it just rubs me the wrong way, especially during covid. Am I being overly sensitive?
Also, I‘ve seen a video of a content creator that bought two hard to get bags because they knew they were popular and said they got them for their subscribers but would be selling at a premium. That person wasn‘t a reseller. Ugh that just rubbed me sooo wrong. Like why would you sell the bags to your supporters at a premium?
drop the youtube username, im gonna watch and dislike it hahaha but yes jokes aside, seriously this is an unnerving trend, i've stopped watching these unboxing videos because of the same reason...extremely irksome...always roll my eyes at "WHY I RETURNED MY XXX"

Also note that these resellers are friends. Most likely when you want an item she would ask another ps/resellers how much to get this bag but will not refer you to that seller of course. For example, luxtholic say $7400, Amy will get back to you with $7800. That’s why it’s exorbitant.

Then there are vulture resellers who stalk other resellers. ERing listed a chanel for $6300, authseller buys and list for $7500. This would only make Ering price her next bag at $7500 since reposters & resellers can sell it. Reposter are the worst they don’t even have inventory. Just repost others photos and jack up price.

It’s really sad :( I have to compete with resellers at both boutique & 2nd market.

Yep. Unfollowed and unsubscibed from hello catwalk city. I used to enjoy her videos also.

Same. When she got the rainbow foil woc I knew she was gonna sell it. Remember when she bought a black caviar classic flap to create content and then return it? (due to some “flaws”). Or won a white classic flap to sell? It is her money, she could do what she wants, but I don’t know why it felt so...???

Since we’re on youtubers, I like colourfulnoir, black&goldstyle. And initially like siradong but lately she’s been hoarding minis even though she buys from resellers. Then there’s jesuislou & alessalenore, i feel like once they got a birkin they just gonna sell all thier other brands dior/lv and stick with Hermes/Chanel as most people often do.

I must disagree with the statement you made. I have quite some experience with both Chanel and Hermes and must say that I never experienced "..going to the Hermes store, trying on the stuff and purchasing what I want...". Instead I have experienced long waiting periods in order to be offered something I really want, if not then settling with something I just like or again opting to wait for a long a period of time and take my chances that the item I really want will be offered to me one day. I do not say that Chanel is making it much easier nowadays, but it eventually comes down to the same point and that is building a relationship with a brand or your SA in order to increase the chances of getting what you want!

Please if you quote then actually quote what I wrote. I never wrote you can purchase what you want. My point was that the experience is that you go in and create an experience while at Chanel is more digital and hunting for stuff. Hermès SA doesn’t utilize this way of selling.

I think I understood quite well and quoted quite precisely. What prevents you from going to Chanel, trying on the stuff and purchasing it? I will stress once again that with both brands, it is eventually the relationship you have built with your SA that will in most of the cases make the desired item available to you, regardless of the communication means your are using to establish it.

If you want to disagree, you are more than welcome to do so. You can also ask for clarification.
Please again have proper etiquette and don’t quote me if you are not actually quoting me but rather write your perspective. Thanks.

I disagree. I have a 20 year relationship with chanel and I don’t get what I want. It’s not easy as going into the store and buying what you want. Your now competing with resellers, other favored customers and influencers. Not to mention with the rise of social media, people have more disposable income and are spending more on designer than I remember 10 years ago. I have to contact 10+ SAs every season to find what I want. It’s ridiculous.
