Oh, so "only" $9k then! What a deal!

And you have zero recourse if anything goes wrong with a bank transfer... I just can't fathom sending that much cash to a random person, no matter how much I want a bag or they appear to be trustworthy. You never know...

Someone is going to purchase it. That's the even crazier part. Watch, these will start disappearing off these reseller sites (regardless of price) as the hype continues to build and FOMO hits when people can't find one at retail.

I was in store for the first time ever on a launch day early this year, and I was surprised at how many males were in the store, on the phone the whole time sending photos or on chat. It was quite obvious they didn't even know what they were looking for and zero conversation with the SA's. Poor SA just going in and out of stock room asking if yes or no when bringing out bags. The expressions on the SA's face said it all...Not stereotyping either, but they stood out like a sore thumb.

I think some SA's with more experience know what to look for. My SA has said to me she prefers the popular items go to long term clients, not just anyone that walks in asking. While it sounds harsh for people who are new to the brand and trying to get in, I think it's reasonable that clients who are already spending get preference and get what they actually want, and not miss out because something is popular.

This is more or less identical to my experience too. A very busy store and the ratio of male clients was easily 40%+ which considering it’s a female brand with no male offering in the collection does seem particularly high.

Most of them on Wechat and FaceTime Confirming their purchases and waiting for funds to transfer. It must be so frustrating for the SA’s having to deal with that situation knowing they‘re unlikey to be genuine clients yet still having to provide a good level of service, as well as being hassled on their phones by resellers and over demanding clients who think they are the most important people in the world lol!

I don’t know how they do it, no wonder some of them can seem ‘off’ some days.

Fashionphile gets 15-30% commission. So I guess they include this commission in the price. I submitted a quot for my mini today just to see how much they will offer because I noticed a color transfer started to appear on the back side regardless the fact that I wear it only with light color clothes. So I thought if I can sell it for same price I bought, I can get a black classic instead of black mini. But I doubt I’ll sell it, I don’t think they offer descent buy out price. Still curious how much they will offer because similars mini are listed on fashionphile over $5500. I submitted a quote for YSL bag a months ago and they offered $1000 but same models was listed there for $1800. So I declined and kept it
I also got a quote for a YSL and said no thanks . I bought a single flap Chanel jumbo from them during covid for $5k and decided it was not a smart purchase and sold it back for a lot less . I don’t regret it because never wore it, and now more careful of my Chanel purchases from FASHIONPHILE . I am only going to buy direct from Chanel or NM because at least you know the price of what it’s worth .

I’ve seen a few posts in this thread (and forum) suggesting the unusual proportion of men clientele in stores making purchases, standing in lines, etc. I would not doubt that some may be part of a reselling network.

However, I am not sure I would characterize Chanel as just a brand for women, as there are products for men (in some collections) and products that could be considered unisex.

Some men have fallen in love with the Chanel brand too (see thread: Guys/Men’s Chanel Club). Some men shop for themselves/own collection and build their own relationships with SAs. So, just sharing this in the spirit of inclusivity (and in case they’re reading). ❤️

Honestly if there are enough people who choose to spend $1000s over (already crazy) retail prices then the resellers will continue to exploit the “fomo” obsession that appears to drive our consumer society.

Personally I have a “hard no” policy for resellers and I just let the ”fomo” pass…
Influencers and social media fuel the FOMO obsession. There's ALWAYS someone that will pay to get what they want regardless of price because they have been convinced they cannot live without that particular item.

which is hilarious because the influencers are just turning around and reselling these items after they get their photos or they’re in a mountain of credit card debt to keep up appearances. Social media has been detrimental to so many people.
