Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

I am totally a fan of @nat74. I can’t count the number of times she’s helped me with various items. She’s a doll. She takes a lot of time to be helpful on this forum. I can also understand where she is coming from with being selective in who she gives info out to. There are way too many members that are posting only about getting SA info. They aren’t even trying to engage in conversation or adding comments to any other threads outside of the store stock thread, which by the way is a no chatting thread Or asking for SA info on the season threads. Or asking for 5 different things on the ISO thread in one post. Sorry but that just seems sketchy to me. I hate to be suspicious but this forum is for people to share love of luxury or a particular brand or item. It is not here to make reseller’s lives easier by making stock more accessible.

I would agree. Have you seen the amount of recently new IG accounts with resellers, hosting lives? Its crazy. Also, the morning of 22S launch last week the SF free standing store had about 10-12 men in line. I am not trying to stereotype and say men aren't allowed to purchase, but what are the odds? I have been shopping at that store for over 20 years and have never seen so many men, alone, in line. So, clearly, reselling is much bigger than what we know.

Not only IG accounts reselling but IG accounts actively recruiting resellers and offering ‘business’ advice in establishing their own service! To me something just seems very off with the whole situation.

The luxury business strategy of scarcity and creating desire works to the resellers advantage because they funnel Demand to their selling accounts because they’ve bought everything themselves, so if you really want it you have to pay premium.

I visited the London boutiques for 22P launch in January and there also were many young men (students maybe?) all waiting in line or inside the boutique looking at handbags and SLGs, I doubt they all had lucky wives or girlfriends at home who were to be treated to a full product selection of hot items…perhaps a few but not all of them.

My SA’s in Hermes, Chanel and LV have all more or less said it’s becoming impossible to control without accusations of discrimination or alienating genuine customers who have no understanding of how the luxury world works these days.

I wonder how many resellers are sat reading this now??

OMG in NYC one time I went to a sample sale (not chanel) just a simple clothing brand sample sale I swear I saw 3-5 people doing Instagram live right inside the sale and making the purchase for their viewers

Yes. I saw this also they had the iPad set up on a tripod at the sample sale and also at the outlets. When I realized what was being done I deliberately walked in front of the camera.

I can’t fathom why people wouldn’t just go to the company website directly or go to Bloomingdales or Saks or NM website, that clothing brand is well known n carried in the department stores. Why in gods name pay a reseller for his service fee to shop for you for clothes you could not even try on.. it’s beyond me

I know one reseller who was on line at a sample sale mentioned to me they ship a lot of this merchandise back internationally and sell it at a high mark up price.

Well, I’m pretty new to Chanel. I bought my first Chanel mini few months ago. And I use this forum to educate myself and read. But I don’t post or comment anything just because I don’t have much to say since I know little about brand and everything. So if I don’t have a lot of comments I can be identified as a reseller if I’m asking about a certain purse but not engage in other threads or discussions? Seems unfair. Also, I’m really disappointed in SA with who I interacted with. Looks like they can offer only classic flap which are kinda pricey after last year price increased. I asked to put my name for black mini and it’s been a half year and I haven’t received any messages that it’s been available. Only 1 message that medium classic flap has arrived, which look like they were trying to upsell. I know that black minis are hard to get, but looks like most people are getting it in few months while I’ve been waiting for more than 6 because I don’t have a history of purchases bunch of unnecessary(for me) stuff.

You may be buying from a much busier location. It can be more difficult to get certain items at these stores as opposed to smaller stores.
As for participation, frankly it looks better when you do even if it’s just chit chat. We are all suspicious with the sudden influx of new members and the seemingly new ubiquitous popularity of Chanel as a brand. We don’t automatically assume you are a reseller, we are just simply cautious. We don’t want to make it harder for people to get items. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah. But I mean with all instagram and other social media accounts that post daily a lot of awesome pics and videos with
Chanel bags, it’s no wonder that people who never seen those bags or never been into a fashion has started to explore it and get into it. Also with credit cards it’s more accessible to buy luxury brands to more people nowadays than it’s used to be. But I honestly don’t understand people who start business as a reseller. It’s a speculation and should be illegal I think. I know most country has a law that buying fakes is illegal. I think it would be nice to make similar law for resellers of some brands like Chanel or Hermes. (Same thing with some sneakers. It’s a full industry right now) I also curious those YouTubers who post video of unpacking new Chanel purchases few times a month, are they sending it back as return or reselling them?

I get what you are saying, and we don't assume that anyone with less than "x" number of comments is automatically tagged as a reseller. As @graciewwing said, we are just being cautious because this reseller nonsense has gotten out of hand, and it's too easy to poach content, SA info, and stock info/location on this forum. Those of us who genuinely love the brand want to share stuff freely with each other but also have to keep an eye out for those that are here under false pretense. Based on your profile, you are at least engaging in some conversations and at least making an attempt to actually be a part of this community. My comment is more about the members that have for instance 10 posts, and all 10 of them are about "can I get your SA info?" or "where can I buy this?". These posters are only interested in getting information on where to purchase without any attempt to try and engage with others on this forum.

I feel you. Me too, I like to "online shopping" here to see those eye candies.
I waited two years for my black mini, I was beyond happy :yahoo:, it is so cute. Hope you will get yours soon.

I was in store for the first time ever on a launch day early this year, and I was surprised at how many males were in the store, on the phone the whole time sending photos or on chat. It was quite obvious they didn't even know what they were looking for and zero conversation with the SA's. Poor SA just going in and out of stock room asking if yes or no when bringing out bags. The expressions on the SA's face said it all...Not stereotyping either, but they stood out like a sore thumb.

I think some SA's with more experience know what to look for. My SA has said to me she prefers the popular items go to long term clients, not just anyone that walks in asking. While it sounds harsh for people who are new to the brand and trying to get in, I think it's reasonable that clients who are already spending get preference and get what they actually want, and not miss out because something is popular.

Yes but not all of us can afford multiple Chanel items... for some of us, we work and save. Should we be denied the opportunity to own the items we actually like? It's a free country and stores can do whatever they want. But it does seem unfair to me :(

I agreed with your thoughts. I was new too and I had purchased a medium classic flap last year as my very first chanel bag. I found the purseblog forum just a few months ago. Just like you, I didn’t know much about the brand so I didn’t know what question to ask or opinion to say. I once saw a picture of the 21k my perfect mini and was totally in love with it. My SA couldn’t find it anymore since the bag was in previous season. One day, I found a post in stock thread that her SA had the bag. I tried to reach out and really hoped to make a serious purchase, but the OP didn’t reply. I was confused why they posted but when asking for a contact they didn’t want to give out. What @graciewwing said made everything make sense now. I am against reseller and I understand that we don’t want to create opportunities for resellers to bypass the waitlist/reserve list and get the items before everyone but assuming us is reseller is unfair.
I am sorry to hear that you have been waiting for so long to get the mini bag. Did you try to walk in to different chanel boutique and meet with a new SA?

Have you try Saks or NM or BG or Nordstrom? I do see Saks n NM post black mini infrequently but they do appear n ready for purchase
