Don't know if this is considered abuse, but I definitely cringed when it happened. For my 40th birthday, I bought myself a very hard to find Louis Vuitton Lockit Fetish PM. Since the bag came out three years prior, I had to scour the second hand market for one, and finally found it brand new. My first week using it, one of my close friends at work wanted to see it, so I picked it up and set it in front of her. She dragged it across my desk, and I could hear those little gold feet scratch against my desk. My stomach lurched. I try to be very kind to my bags and I know that there are some things we just can't avoid. To some people these are disposable items, but my handbags are my babies. Needless to say, she won't be handling my bags again.

When I worked at a consignment store I would see a lot of badly abused purses. One that sticks out in my memory is a client who brought in a chanel classic flap and a prada saffiano lux tote. The chanel had been taken to be dyed but they ended up colouring it incorrectly so she attempted to re-dye it at home. Needless to say the bag looked a complete mess. Her prada saffiano tote, I'm not even sure what happened to it but it was so run down the leather had cracked and started to peel, I think also due to a dying incident. Poor client was pretty upset we couldn't accept either but they were so poorly run down they wouldn't be worth more then $50 and would be restricted to beach bags at best.

I would never sit my own, much less brand new bags on the floor. People spit, pee and there's all kind of dirt and nastiness outside that gets tracked indoors. So clean floors aren't really all that clean. It's the reason I don't allow shoes worn in the house and I vacuum constantly.

Alas, It's much germier to actually *use* a bag: hold it, reach into it, carry it into a restroom where all the toilets flush without lids (spraying everything with germ-laden micro mist) than it is to put it on the floor. Cell phones, desktops, and computer keyboards are some of the germiest things around (spit, spray from pee and worse, fecal matter, all matter of infectious nastiness...) - and unless dropped, those seldom touch the floor. Those nasties may all be on the floor as well, but keeping bags off the floor hardly avoids them.

Keeping off the floor to protect from real dirt or scratches, sure. But the germs are there- everywhere other than (or along with) the floor.

It was raining this morning where I live. As I passed by a bus stop, I saw a woman talking on her cell phone with her handbag sitting on the wet ground.

I was apalled. I don't care if it was a $20 bag from Wal-Mart made of polyeurethane. It deserved better.

That's funny! I wish I'd taken a pic of the time I was in an airport, walking by a bar/grill. A woman had set her Bottega Veneta Cabat directly on the dirty, wet floor while she ate. I wanted to grab some napkins and then ask her if she was out of her mind.

Put them on blast doll!!! don't let them get away with such violations!!!!

Love the thread. I see people putting their bags on the floor all the time and it grosses me out. I always put my bag on the chair next to me. But if someone has to sit next to me, I'm holding my bag in my lap. The floor/ground is filthy, I will never let my bags touch it.

I also try not to let my bag rub against things or let people accidentally touch it when passing by me. I'm really a freak about that. But there was this one time I was in the market and this woman completely pushed my bag and I gave her a sour look. You don't do that to Gucci bags (the bag I had on at the time). The nerve of some people.

Oh wow this is killing me I can't stop laughing [emoji39] whenever I go out with my sister and use my lady Dior and she walks on the same side as my bag I say "whoa there, other side, don't rub the leather its fragile!" [emoji23] so funny and so true, I need pylons around my bags. Must be protected at all times !
