Rejuventating, Repairing or Restoring Your Balenciaga

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this. Hoping to get some advice/opinions from others who’ve had project bags before. Does this look like there is true potential to get decent color restoration or is it not worth the time/effort/money? I haven’t had quite a fixer-upper before.

Lovin my Bags does really good work when it comes to color restoration. You can send her photos and she'll give you an estimate of the cost. She specializes in Balenciaga bags and has had a lot of experience restoring handles.

With that much discoloration, I don't think its something you could tackle yourself

This wasn't a color restoration of the handles -- it was a full on handles replacement due to the amount of damage -- but it might give you an idea of the kind of work she does (if you scroll through that thread, I believe there are photos of color restorations that she performed on the handles of other tPFers bags)

Though there might be some interest- I got this ggh chevre brief off posh for $100, possibly a very faded French blue. Pic 1 is original condition, pic 2 is after a coat of leather honey, pic 3 is after applying crème surfine to re color. Pic 4 compare to my ocean day bag

Leather Honey is amazing. I used it on a pale peach Bala and it turned into Mandarin Orange. I know people here have advised using on light colors Bals, but sometimes you have nothing to lose. And the leather becomes so soft and supple.I wouldn't use it on a cream Bar, but I would at least first try it on the leather tag inside the bag.

I don't mind deepening the color of some leathers, but Connie has warned of a patchy result. Did the color on your pale peach come out uniformly Mandarin?

Ha! I’ve held my breath and used it on bags I shouldn’t have risked and gotten lucky. But yes, the problem is that a test will only tell you how that specific spot on the leather will respond. Two inches away and it’s possible to get an unpleasant surprise. My worst experience was on a faded 05 Caramel City. Took many months to dissipate, and thereafter would pop back up with any moisturizer. :frown:

I did try the Leather Honey on a black Coach bag that was sold as olive it was so faded. The Leather Honey brought it up some, but not 100%, and I did 2 applications. It has been sitting on my workbench for 4 yrs as Idon’t want to dye or polish her. I watch a Coach rehab thread on TikTok and the girl bought a Coach bag almost gray rather than the intended black. She used Blacksaddle soap which made it look amazing, then conditioned with Bick’s which Ialready have. The blacksaddle soap comes tomorrow, so I will check that out. I have only done dark bags with the exception of the orange.

I did rehab my BFF’s Ink Bal which she bought from the girl who used to make the Rogue Escape pods. It came out great, as did my grenat bag with the Leather Honey. And they now feel like a baby’s bottom.

I am currently getting ready to sell my ‘07 grape Bal. Only flaw is corners were pale and I didn’t want to polish, so I used Leather CPR. It darkened the corners, but I find it preferable to pale corners. I will disclose but she looks great for a 17 yr old bag, and the leather is divine. And yes, I am now going to carry my backup ‘07 grape bag.

Hi all! Just looking for a bit of help please, I’ve recently purchased a hot pink city bag, and it does look like it needs some freshening up / rejuvenating! Looking for something that will help protect and nourish the leather, without affecting the colour! Pic for context :)

Thank you in advance! X

Welcome. I would recommend just starting to read backwards in this thread. Lots of amazing expertise shared here!

My Le Cagole with rhinestones (fluo green) is badly ripped beyond repair, where to sell it for spare parts? No leathersmith around my area is willing to fix it and I don't have the heart to toss it in the rubbish 😢
