I'm new to H scarves, and live about 400 miles from the nearest H store. Due to another thread (the f/w 2010 scarves), I've seen a couple scarves I'd be very interested in. They are not (yet? if ever?) on the website, and I'm wondering if I need to call an H store to see if they could reserve one for me, or if I should inquire of the on-line customer service folks. My existing purchases have been made on-line and once through the help of the on-line customer service referring me to an SA at an H store that had the scarf I was looking for.

I would suggest your calling the 800 customer service line on the Hermes website. They will help you locate a scarf if you describe the name and colorway, and will let you know where it is available. Then you can contact the store and have them send it to you. It is convenient to order from the website since it allows for full refund should an item not suit you. When you purchase from the store, it is for store credit (at any H store) only. Good luck and welcome to the H slippery slope!:D

I don't know what the TPF policy is about naming SA's in posts, but Darra in the Charlotte Hermes boutique is a wizard at finding things and helping you figure out if something might be right for you. Welcome to the beautiful and exhilarating world of Hermes. Hang on to your hat ... the slopes are steep and very fast.

I'm back with another question. I just got a lovely scarf (aren't they all?) from the US Hermes on-line store. The question is whether a tiny flaw (or maybe it isn't a flaw) in the thread at one spot in the hem is reason to send the scarf back, or is something that happens once in a while and is not a reason to send the scarf back? I've attached a photo, with a pencil next to scarf to give you an idea of the (small) size. It's on the front side of the scarf; I can't even see it without my reading glasses. It's the slightly larger visible thread, next to the metal part of the pencil. My DH would say I'm being like the princess and the pea.

i have an older hermes scarf i just bought at a savers (a large thrift store that takes donations and gives a percentage of its sales to the boys clubs of america). it it is signed HERMES-PARIS without a copyright symbol. then it has a tag sewn on the back imported from france and another that says "hermes at bonwit teller, 100% silk. i can't read the designers name.....looks like j. de trinariet (total guess on the last part) it features large horns/trumpets with bows. i'm wondering if there is an area i could look at the scarf signatures or pictures and browse around. or can i post this in the authenticate thread? thanks so much in advance!

ps. my third scarf found this way and the previous two were authentic! i am so excited at a possible third!

La Vie en Rose, that 'little tuft' looks like part of the hemming stitch. I wouldn't consider so small a thing as an imperfection as all the stitching is done by hand. Most of the hem stitching is virtually invisible most of the time but I've noticed that a few stiches on my scarves old and new are slightly larger and therefore more visible. It takes incredible hand craft skills to do anything like this so it is a feature of the craft of Hermes compared to the reliable anodyne perfection of a machine. There was a feature in a Monde d'Hermes magazine a few years back on the task of handstictching the hems. Honestly, it's nothing to worry about. The bigger question is do you love the scarf?

Les Tambours,

thank you for the insights. I have marveled at how on earth anyone can handstitch the hems of these scarves so nothing but the rolled hem is showing!

I LOVE the scarf. It's la charmante des animaux, in noir. Really really pretty.

FYI, there's a wonderful little video on the H website that shows a rouletesse (sp?) at work; it's in the 'world of hermes' section part of the site.

I lived in Kenya from 2005 until 2007--during that time, I remember seeing a Hermes scarf with African tribal people on it online (I think they were the Masai of Kenya). I put it on my short-term "bucket list" to buy but was not able to do so in the year the scarf was being sold. I have been looking for that scarf ever since....does anyone know where I could possibly look to purchase it? Or even what exact year it was designed? Thanks.

Hello, read your post about the Hermes scarf named "Perles of Kenya." I own this incredible scarf and also have the little scarf booklet featuring the collection (Autumn-Winter 1997/98). I bought mine from Neiman Marcus, however, I have seen it from time to time on Ebay. Now that you know the name of it, it will make it easier to find. Good luck!

If it's the scarf I am thinking of, and I have it, it is called Persona.

I hope I am not duplicating any posts here - I've searched & can't find anything so far...

Does anyone have the e-book Kell's Guide to buying and collecting H scarves? Just wondering whether it's worth getting. There is some great tpf feedback on Nadine Coleno's book which is another option.

Any advice much appreciated :smile1:
