Newb question: What is the difference between a Jacquard and a Twilly? I don't understand all these terms. Is there a glossary of HS terms somewhere? If there isn't, there should be for all us novices.
Also, did Hermes ever publish a book of all their scarf patterns through the years? I've love to see that!
Thanks all you experts.

A jacquard weave - a pattern that is woven into the fabric. Lots of towels have jacquards in them - the concept is not unique to Hermes.
Twilly - a type of scarf made by Hermes (they made up the name) - basically a scarf sewn into a long strip - the size and shape are exclusively theirs . Usually twillys are made of a different printed version of the basic scarf patterns - designs are downsized to fit onto the thin strip

Thank you for clarifying; I appreciate your time.:smile1:

Oh dear,

I guess I´ve got cheated. I bougt a Carpe Diem from the eBay. And guess what, it only measures 88x88 cm. So I wrote the seller about that and she/he is trying to tell me, that there are Hermes scarves, that don´t measure 90x90 cm, too. That´s not true, or is it?
Otherwise the scarf looks quite ok and also weights 65 grams. But I´m still very suspicious:(
Has anyone ever heard, that Hermes had produced carres, that don´t measure 90x90 cm?
Thank you all for your interest, this is a great and extremely informative forum!

I'm still learning about this, but I think that there were promotional scarves through various department stores, etc., that were slightly smaller than the standard 90 cm. size. I hope that helps. Maybe someone else will chime in here.

Thanks for your quick answer!
But it didn´t really cheer me up that much, it is not a promotional scarf to any department store, just the regular dark blue ( I mean not lavender) Carpe Diem from J. Metz.
Oh, I wanted that scarf so much...

Don't fret - many scarves don't quite measure 90 cm x 90 cm.

You can take a bunch, line them all up and find there are no 2 the exact same size, esp if there is a contrast hem , which is the case for Carpe.

I just measured mine and it is 88 cm sq !
Rest easy !

I was feeling so ashamed, ´cause I thought I was being had on. But now I feel mmmuch better:) I have only 2 other scarves (Luna Park and Perfume Bottles) and they measured 90x90. But now I know a lot more:)
Thanks again!!

If the scarf is a little older, it can happen that they shrink a little bit (within reason).

Hi everyone,

My 21st is coming up and although I'll be getting LV, I'm considering a twilly instead of a LV bandeau... This would be my first Hermes purchase!

Is there anyone from Australia who can help me with current prices and stock availability? I'm a bit nervous going into the Hermes store :sweatdrop:

Any opinions on whether I should go to the Marina Mirage or Surfers Hermes store?

Also, anyone who has a LV bandeau AND a twilly who can give me opinions on the pros/cons?

Sorry about all the questions!

And thank you in advance for your help :)

Hermes Groupie, hi. I joined the Forum recently and have been reading rather than posting (I love Hermes, but I have more to learn than to contribute!) You mentioned two Yahoo groups of scarf collectors that I would like to know more about. How can I find out about them?
