Reference: Guide to Hermes Scarves

Hi all, I'm new to the forum so please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong section.

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Hermes Grand H Faconnee scarf? Does anyone know when Hermes first started producing it? I own two which I bought new from the Bond Street boutique last year, and like them both so much that I decided I might try to collect them in each colour. Well, the Bond Street store didn't have anymore in several colours, so I turned to eBay and found an orange one listed. However, it's for sale at almost three times the price of a new one and the seller insists she bought it in Toronto many years ago (don't know how many, but enough to make it vintage) and that it is a woman's shawl and that I don't know what I'm talking about. SO, I thought I might try to educate myself by asking on this forum before deciding she's either a crazy woman or I really don't, in fact, know what I'm talking about.

Any help is most appreciated!

Here's the link to the Hermes website with the scarf, btw: http://usa.hermes.com/man/tie-free/scarves/faconnee/t-scarf-faconnee-h-64099.html

She also seems to think that if the scarf is only $495 this is a fake Hermes website.... I guess crazy woman strike one ;P

Thanks everyone!

I have not posted in a long time but I was fascinated by the faconnee scarf question

I could not understand your question until it finally dawned on me ... your link is for a man's scarf - the key is in the ref nbr H364904T 01 it has a T not an S and ...

There is a problem with the H site - it references 2 DIFF scarves on the same page
H364904T has little Hs
H720575T has Big Hs
So, we are talking about 2 diff designs 4904 little Hs, and 0575 with big ones in the same format (size, fabric) ... I would not doubt that they have done this design in many similar sizes and fabrics over the years,

So, confusion about the design from a seller could be the due to a fake scarf or due to Hermes itself - there are 2 faconnees !

Sorry for rambling ...

to add to my previous post ...

My vintage mens pochette with the Hs just happened to be on top in the closet, and yes, the H design seems identical to that for the faconnee with the small Hs. So, the design , ie the artistic motif, is indeed ancient - 30 years old ??

The rendering, in the cashmere jacquard is another matter, don t know when that was done - and there are two of those - big or small Hs.

H.com never shows anything more than about 3 years old, so, my guess is that the 2 faconnees came out within the last 3 years

It is really hard to date renderings, for mens scarves, without a complete set of teh mens catalogs, sorry dont have those

You might ask in a thread about the mens collections ...

Hi All,

Apologies if I've misunderstood the purpose of this thread. I'm looking to buy my first Hermès scarf. I'd like something in black & white or black, white and orange perhaps pink if orange wasn't possible.

I had a look online and could not see anything I liked and don't want to go to the Hermès boutique (I live in London) unprepared as I'm easily embarrassed and would end up buying something because I feel pressured into doing it. I'm quite an anxious person you see. :blushing:

I am ideally looking for a 90 cm scarf or a twilly although would be interested in all sizes.

Thank you for any and all help you can give and again I apologise if this is not what this thread is desgined for. :smile1:

Best Wishes,

Sophia x

Welcome!

In fact, this is more of a reference thread. Why don't you browse the scarf threads to see what inspires you, check out the Hermes site, and then when you have enough posts to start a thread of your own, ask for advice? (I think you need ten posts and a certain number of days as a member.)

I'm very sorry, silly me but thank you for the warm welcome! :D I will do as you say and see what I can find and yes you need 10 posts and you have to have been a member for 5 days before one can start a thread. So I will have to wait; annoying but it's understandable why this is the case.

Thanks again! :smooch:

Hi everyone!

I am trying to find more information about a Hermès scarf that belonged to my grandmother. Here's a picture: http://i.imgur.com/AojMc0u.jpg

I have found (thanks to this forum!) that it's a Henri de Linares scarf with the Diane design... but I haven't been able to find any other Diane scarves that have this coloration. Though missing its original box/receipt, it seems to be in great shape, and after having followed many 'how to know if your Hermès scarf is a fake' links, it doesn't seem to be fake. I would love to know approximately when it's from. Do you experts have any ideas? :)

Thanks so much!

View attachment 2690443View attachment 2690443Can someone help? I have just purchased a 90cm Les Clefs scarf from a reputable retailer, I believe it to be genuine. I have tried without success to post some photos but still can't manage to upload the photos.
My query is the colour way it's pink, green, gold and lilac,I have seen photos of the pink colour scarf with a lighter pink in the centre, but mine is the same colour pink all over.
I think it is vintage but not sure.
Sorry if I'm not making any sense but I just can't get the photos on my ipad to upload. I will keep on trying but meanwhile if someone can point me in the right direction It would be appreciated.

I purchased my first 90cm Hermes scarf in 1986, in Harrods, when my husband & I were on vacation in London. It was La Mare aux Canards, photo below (which is interesting, since my research tells me that the scarf was released in 1981). My first question is: could this have been a reissue? Or was it simply old merchandise that had been hanging around Harrods for 5 years? ;)

Second, and more important; over the years, I have managed to acquire twenty additional 90cm carrés. Most were purchased when I was on business trips in major U.S. cities, either at an Hermes counter in a department store, or in an Hermes boutique.

Here is my question. Now that I am retired, I have decided to get serious about documenting my collection. However (silly me!) I have no record of what I paid for those scarves! I only know that they were purchased between 1986 and 1993. After that, there was a major gap in my purchasing; I have begun collecting again recently, but now I am finding my scarves in local consignment shops and from trusted internet resellers. And I am carefully documenting how much I spend on each scarf!

I have searched everywhere I can think of on the Internet, but I have been unable to discover what the Hermes boutiques in the U.S. were charging for their 90cm carrés between 1986 & 1993. Can any of you point me to a reference guide? Thanks in advance!
