Oh, I see. Had not occurred to me that the jacquard makes the "overall" pattern. I have a number of other jacquard scarves but I always thought Hermes made the jacquard pattern then printed on it. Duh!

Thanks for the link sdsurfchick.

A jacquard is a type of weave that creates a design within the fabric and not "on" the fabric. The Jacquard loom was invented by Joseph-Marie Jacquard between 1801 and 1810.
Originally cards were used to make the complicated weave, but today the computer us used a lot. He came from Lyon. The design cannot be added after the material has been woven.

Hope this helps,

Jamie

I don't know the "cashmere blanket/shawls". Guess I will have to keep an eye out for one. Since I collect jacquards, I would be interested. Always on the lookout for a new one. Too bad the "Chat" scarf always goes for such money :(

I am pretty much finished as I think I have almost every jacquard pattern (especially love the kangaroo!).

saw this on wikipedia:

The seen-everywhere "Brides De Gala" version, introduced in the 1970s, has been produced more than 70,000 times.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermès

this is wrong, it was issued in 1957? right?

question for experts: how many scarves are produced in a design per season? is it per design or C/W? thanks!!!
Perhaps in some form or another, 70,000 have been produced. I have on way of knowing if that is true. Here is some information. This site is a great one for research. http://www.luxuryscarves.com/en/10_database/colorway.php?ID=21 Also very valuable are

It is my understanding they print as many as are ordered, and then some.

We seem to have a mystery going on with the Quai aux Fleurs below. All the links and comments so far are in the link below from the H Scarf AT thread. If there's any other info needed, please let me know. I'm dying to find out what year this scarf was made.

I did send a letter to the boys at Luxury Scarves and they indicated it could not be the original 1952 issue because it does have the copyright symbol(bummer!), so now I'm on a mission to find out what year reissue it is. Thanks in advance!

Hi there, I just picked up what seems likely to be a genuine Hermes scarf in a charity shop - Bride de Cour. Unfortunately the label has been removed so all I can go on is the quality of the scarf. The only thing that's giving me pause for thought is that the underside is a bit lighter, and I understand Hermes scarves are usually colour saturated on both sides. Does anyone know whether this pattern is a common fake? Any thoughts most welcome!

Lovely!
Bride de Cour by Françoise De La Perriere, first issued in 1969, reissued in 1987.
Jahna is spot on about the color difference on the two sides of the scarf.
Congratulations, tracypuk!

My mother is a huge fan of Hermes scarves and I am going to Spain in April. I wanted to know if there were any scarf styles that are really popular over in Europe that I could get her. I would ask her, but I want it to be a surprise. Thanks so much!
