Just and observation. I now am convinced that Gelish and Red Carpet Manicure are the same. RCM has a web site and it lists their 32 colors with a color chart. The color chart has freakishly the same icons as the ones for Gelish. Upon closer inspection, there are small distinctions in the "shine mark" of a lot of the color swatch/icons/circles. If you compare to what you figure is a similar color or the same color from the Gelish color chart, they have the exact distinctive shapes in the "shine mark". They are exactly the same No company would use the color chart of another company unless they were the same company.

Ooh, I looked at the web site and you are right! They look exactly like the Gelish swatches.

There may or may not be slight variations in the various formulas, but Nail Tech Supply owns the trademarks for RCM and Hand & Nail Harmony as well as Artistic Color Gloss

The Gelish trademark is held under Danny Haile's name, although it's a H&NH product. I'm sure there's a reason for that.

All of the trademarks have the same attorney of record - the law firm of Feldman Gale.

The info is available on the US Patent and Trademark Office website.

Do you know where it is manufactured? I have been trying to find out since I was on the alli-express website and found Gelish for sale. They have 12 bottles of gel polish, plus 3 tio and 3 foundation for $116.97. Includes shipping. The site says they manufacture it. However, I want to make sure its the real stuff, not knockoffs.

I responded on the Gelish thread. It's a knock off, not made by Nail and Hand Harmony but by some Chinese company called CCO. The bottles are nearly identical. I dont get how they can sell it since Gelish is trademarked, but I guess if they're outside the US they're not bound by our trademarking laws?

Gelish indicates it is made in the USA. I expect it's the same for the others, tho I don't have a bottle of ACG handy and I don't own any RCMs. Personally, I'd be leery of purchasing the cheap polishes. Results seem to be really inconsistent and some of them smell horrendous, making one wonder what the heck is in them. Keep in mind that there aren't the same regulations abroad as there are in the U.S. when it comes to the use of certain chemicals. Remember the pet food/melamine scandal a few years ago? Toys are always getting recalled due to high levels of toxicity in the paint, etc. that aren't allowed under U.S. law. You've got to think of the value of your health and safety when you are deciding whether or not to purchase cosmetics that are manufactured in locations that aren't regulated the same way we are. Don't get me wrong as I'm not trying to imply they are all bad, but buyer beware. JMHO.

I saw some at one point on that site that were called "Bluesky Gelish" and "Bluesky Shellac". I think those particular two were alleging that they manufactured or bottled the product for CND and Gelish so it was the same formula; I don't know how true that is tho I'm skeptical of that claim. Patent and trademark laws absolutely apply outside of the U.S.; that being said, I think the reality is that it can be difficult and costly to enforce, but companies can and DO go after violators. I think CND is much more active in protecting their intellectual property; I'm not sure if H&NH really have the bandwidth to do so the way CND does right now.

I agree with Runnergal. I am afraid to try knock off brands. The color red is often made with lead. And, with nail polish your putting the product on your fingertips. They touch your food, your face, probably in your mouth. It just seems risky health wise.

Its so hard waiting 2 weeks sometimes!:smile1:

What size is the Pro45? I know it will fit 4 fingers, but I am wondering if it is wide enough for a pedicure...

Also, have you had any issues with the applicator brush in the color polishes? I really want "And the Winner Is" and have been to the 3 Ultas in my area. NONE of the brushes in this particular color are normal, they all have random stray bristles. I had to exchange "Thank You, Thank You" for the same issue. So I am waiting for them to get new stock. I emailed the company, and they told me they were trying to fix the problem.

The pro light fits four fingers nicely. I've found that it's really important to spread your fingers out and keep them very level or the sides won't cure properly. I've been curing color for 2 cycles (30 secs each) and sort of trying to tilt my fingers from side to side during the second cycle to get the sides cured properly and this has worked out MUCH better for me. I was having problems with peeling after a week and this seems to be giving me a few more days when the sides really get a chance to cure better.

I've also read (on the RCM Facebook page) that you're supposed to apply the foundation with a "scrubbing" motion and to keep the coats thin. Another tip I picked up (and forgive me I don't remember if it was from another gel polish thread here or a nail blog that I read) was to apply the foundation, cure it and then take a clean dry gel brush and use it to wipe over the nail and remove any excess. It also seems to make the cured foundation layer a little more tacky before the first layer of color. This is the first time I tried that so I'm hoping that will extend my wear past a week. I don't have my hands in water that much so I'm not sure other than the application what could be making it last only a week. Unless I just have oily nail beds.

I also had a "And The Winner Is" with a faulty brush. I didn't have my receipt anymore, but I took it back to Ulta and showed them and they exchanged it. Obviously, I couldn't have bought it anywhere else. Now I always check the brushes.

I wanted to do a mani this week that was a dark purplish-grey sort of color but RCM doesn't have that. So, I decided to mix it up myself. Just wanted to post my color recipe since I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

Since the gel polish stays workable for a while but will start to get gummy if you leave it out for too long, I just mix this up right before I start my foundation layer. I needed two batches to get me through 3 coats on both hands. (You could probably do it with two but three gave really even coverage.) I mixed up the first batch on some tin foil and did the first 4 fingers then mixed up the 2nd batch on the same foil as the first and that got me through the other 4 fingers and both thumbs. I did not have much polish left over at all so I don't feel like this was very wasteful.

I'll post this in the swatch threads and the Gelish thread too I guess, since it has both brands in it lol.
